Chapter 467: Skipping Grades
Chapter 467: Skipping Grades
Lu Jiaxin had not only completed her junior year courses but had also taken the initiative to learn the senior year curriculum with a teacher during the summer vacation. Therefore, she wanted to advance directly to her senior year after the new semester began.
Lu Jiaxin shared this idea with Nie Zan, seeking his opinion.
Nie Zan, of course, supported her: "Since you've already mastered the material, there's no need to waste more time. Jiaxin, do you want to continue your studies further?"
"Are you talking about graduate school?"
Seeing him nod, Lu Jiaxin quickly waved her hands in refusal: "No, no, I don't want to continue. A university degree is enough for me."
The past two years had been challenging, and she had no desire to prolong her studies. However, she didn't regret choosing the finance major as the knowledge she gained would be useful in the future. As for graduate school, she felt she had had enough of studying for so many years.
Nie Zan found her reaction amusing. If she had agreed to his initial suggestion to pursue fashion design, she would undoubtedly have had an easier time.
"I wonder what preparations I need to make to skip a grade," Lu Jiaxin said.
Nie Zan rubbed her head affectionately and smiled: "You don't need to prepare anything. I'll take care of everything, and you can just start your senior year when the new semester begins."
Lu Jiaxin was aware that Nie Zan's maternal uncle was a board member of the school: "Let's follow the rules properly! I've mastered the material pretty well, and I'm confident I can pass the exams."
While she couldn't guarantee exceptional performance, she was confident in her ability to pass the exams.
Nie Zan understood her determination.
Recalling Shi Xinyu's phone call earlier in the day, Lu Jiaxin asked, "Is Fu Yue getting engaged again?"
Nie Zan was surprised that she already knew and nodded: "Yes, his fiancee is the daughter of his father's old friend. The engagement is next Saturday, and they'll get married by the end of the year."
Lu Jiaxin couldn't hide her disdain: "The sooner, the better."
Although she disliked Fu Yue, Nie Zan couldn't possibly forbid their interaction as they had been friends for many years. While the old saying goes that proximity to vermilion imparts a reddish tint and proximity to ink imparts a dark tint, they were all adults capable of making their own choices and judgments.
Nie Zan knew that Lu Jiaxin was understanding and rare for her age: "Don't worry, I'll come back after dinner."
The next day, Lu Jiaxin called Yu Meotong and told her the news: "His engagement is next week. Did you know about this?"
Yu Meotong acknowledged with a hum: "I know. An old friend of mine told me yesterday, and she said I was being too nitpicky."
Hearing the dejection in her voice, Lu Jiaxin offered comfort: "Don't pay attention to what they say. Only you know the true story of your life. Meotong, let's look forward and not dwell on the past. Let's embrace a beautiful future."
Yu Meotong chuckled: "Do you think I still care about him? No way. I actually felt relieved when I heard he was getting engaged."
"Then why aren't you happy about it?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
Hearing this, Yu Meotong fell silent: "I want to go back and get my clothes and bags, but my mother said my father doesn't allow me to return. My clothes and bags are all designer brands, and I could make quite a bit of money by selling them at a second-hand store. It's inconvenient to live in a rented room, so I want to sell those things and get a mortgage for a house."
A smaller room was manageable, but living with a roommate was too inconvenient. She preferred to sleep early, but her colleague often came back late from dates; their lifestyles were just too different. She could tolerate all that, but having her roommate bring her boyfriend over for the night was something she couldn't accept.
Lu Jiaxin was surprised by her newfound frugality: "Didn't you say you wanted to sell the necklace to buy stocks?"
"I did, and they've gone up by 10%! But I really can't stand living in this house anymore. I just want to get my own place. It's inconvenient to rent, and having my own house would give me peace of mind."
Lu Jiaxin offered a suggestion: "Your father only said you're not allowed to come back; he didn't say you can't take your clothes and bags. Ask your mother to pack your things and have the family driver bring them to you."
"Oh, that's possible?"
"If your mommy loves you, it shouldn't be a problem."
Yu Meotong felt reassured, "My mommy may favor my two older brothers, but she does care for me. Knowing that I'm being looked down upon for my shabby clothes, she might not dare to give me money directly, but she'll send me my clothes and bags."
"That'll do," Lu Jiaxin replied.
Yu Meotong immediately put this plan into action, turning to call her mommy and feign sadness. The next day at noon, she received her clothes, shoes, socks, and bags, though her jewelry had been withheld and wasn't sent over.
Without hesitation, Yu Meotong took her clothes and bags to a second-hand store and sold them. Whatever the store didn't take, she set up a stall to sell herself.
After selling everything and getting the money, Yu Meotong called Lu Jiaxin, "Jiaxin, I remember you mentioned knowing a real estate agent. Can you recommend him to me? I want to buy a second-hand apartment so that I can move in right away."
Lu Jiaxin immediately thought of Bi Feiliang but couldn't recall his number. She went upstairs to find her notebook and, after locating his number, relayed it to Yu Meotong, "I'll give him a call later and ask him to give you a good deal."
Yu Meotong felt it was unnecessary to trouble Lu Jiaxin for a simple apartment purchase, "I'll just mention that you referred me, and those who understand will offer a discount. If they don't, I'll just find another agent."
Anyone in business needs to have some wits about them; without such basic instincts, they might as well forget about making money. After her experience at Five Blessings Jewelry, whenever she recalled the things she'd said to Lu Jiaxin, she felt ashamed. She had only worked there for two months and knew about the design department, but she was clueless about the operations of the other departments. If she had really started her own company, she would have surely lost all her capital.
Lu Jiaxin truly felt that Yu Meotong had matured, and this was a good thing. It was better to rely on oneself than on others, "If you need more money, let me know, and I'll lend you some."
Yu Meotong politely declined, "No need, I sold my clothes and bags for over 280,000 yuan, and with the diamond necklace, I made a total of 300,000 yuan. I've also been confirmed as a full-time employee, and my monthly salary is now 6,200 yuan. With a stable income, the bank will grant me a loan."
"I plan to buy a small apartment of three to four hundred square feet, with a budget of no more than 600,000 yuan. I'll take out a loan of 300,000 yuan, so the monthly mortgage will be around 2,000 yuan, which is affordable."
Lu Jiaxin was pleased to see Yu Meotong planning for her future so thoughtfully. To make things easier for her, Lu Jiaxin called Bi Feiliang and instructed him to find an apartment for Yu Meotong that offered the best value for money.
The next day, Lu Jiaxin went to school to take her exams.
She had assumed that the exam content would be relatively easy, but as it turned out, she had thought too lightly of it. The questions were quite challenging. Fortunately, she had studied diligently, and her tutors were excellent, so she was able to answer most of the questions.
The results for the exams were released that very afternoon. Half of her subjects were graded A, and the other half were B+. Though it wasn't a perfect score, it was still an impressive result, and she would have no problem advancing to her senior year.
Nie Zan said, "The school is planning to expand the library. When the time comes, you should donate some money."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and agreed. As for how much she would donate, that could be discussed later.
That evening, Yu Meotong called to express her gratitude. Ever since she'd had the idea of buying a house, she had been paying attention to property prices, and the price Bi Feiliang quoted was lower than the market rate. She knew that Lu Jiaxin must have specifically requested him to give her a good deal.
Lu Jiaxin reminded her, "Meotong, be careful when living alone."
She had already told Bi Feiliang that Yu Meotong was her good friend, so he would surely recommend an apartment with good security and property management. However, as a single woman living alone, it was always better to be cautious.
Yu Meotong wasn't too worried, "The apartment I bought has two rooms. I plan to rent out the other one, and the rent will be enough to cover the mortgage."
As the landlord, she could set the rules, and if the tenant violated them, she could simply evict them without having to endure any mistreatment.
