Chapter 465: Kira's Choice
Chapter 465: Kira's Choice
Kira struggled to make a decision. Having spent most of its life in a crystalline slumber, it could only awaken for seven days every thousand years. As a result, Kira had never ventured anywhere since its birth.
Over the past two days, Mew and Teddiursa had introduced it to countless new and exciting things. They told tales of the valiant Explorer's Squad, the delicious Pokeblocks, the bustling World Tree, and the breathtaking natural scenery.
Kira yearned for such experiences and longed to explore the world like Mew and Teddiursa had. However, there was something holding it back...
The Faraway Land needed Kira; the Pokemon and every flower and blade of grass there depended on its power. Without Kira, all the flora would wither, and the Pokemon who called that place home would go hungry and lose their habitat. Kira didn't want to see that happen.
With a resolute expression, Kira turned to Haruka and said, "Kira wants to return to the Faraway Land to absorb the power of the stars and help the Pokemon and nature there!"
Haruka opened her mouth in surprise. "But then you won't be able to visit other places, will you?"
Suddenly, Satoshi had an idea. "What if Kira returns to the Faraway Land only when the millennium comet approaches to nourish the plants there with the power of the stars? The rest of the time, it can be free to play and explore!"
Kira shook its head, its voice soft and childlike. "That won't work. Nourishing the land is not something that can be done all at once. The land cannot handle such a sudden influx of energy; it must be slowly transferred from Kira's body."
Satoshi fell silent, unsure of what to say. A somber mood settled over the group.
Just then, Naoki was about to speak when he noticed the Absol that had been guarding Kira silently get to its feet and approach the legendary Pokemon.
"Absol?" Kira gazed at it, curious.
Absol's voice was deep and reassuring as it said, "Woof." ("It's alright. Don't worry, everyone can take care of themselves now. You should go and do what you want to do, Kira.")
Kira paused, taken aback by Absol's words. "Absol..."
Satoshi couldn't understand what Absol had said, and neither could Haruka. "What did Absol say?" she asked, puzzled.
Naoki took out his Rotom Phone, and the Rotom inside automatically translated Absol's words for them.
"Absol is telling Kira to do what it wants to do..." Satoshi murmured, understanding Absol's message.
However, Kira still had its doubts and worries. It couldn't bear to leave the Pokemon and the land of Faraway Land, which it had nurtured for so long. Every flower and every blade of grass there was like a child to it. What if something happened in its absence?
"Meow."
"Miu..."
Teddiursa and Mew also felt sad at the thought of being separated from their new friend.
Naoki turned to Absol, thinking that it certainly lived up to its name as a guardian. Since Absol felt this way, he decided to lend them a helping hand.
"I have a way for Kira to take care of the Faraway Land without having to absorb the power of the stars," Naoki announced.
Everyone, humans and Pokemon alike, turned to look at him. Naoki asked them to wait there while he ran back home to retrieve something—a leaf given to him by the World Tree.
[Life Leaf: A leaf from the World Tree, imbued with rich natural energy. Placing it somewhere will nurture the ecosystem of that area, making it lush and beautiful.]
Upon his return, all eyes were immediately drawn to the enormous leaf glowing with a soft, verdant light.
"What is that...?"
"It's glowing!"
"Meow?" Teddiursa and Mew sensed a familiar aura emanating from the leaf.
"This is a treasure I acquired by chance," Naoki explained. "It can release natural energy and nourish the surrounding land, causing plants to grow more vigorously."
"If we place it in Faraway Land, it can take Kira's place," Naoki continued slowly. "Then, Kira will be free to travel and explore."
"How amazing!" Kenji exclaimed.
After a moment of thoughtful silence, Takeshi cautiously asked, "If this leaf is so precious, won't its absence cause any problems for your ranch, Naoki?"
Satoshi and Kira also looked at Naoki, awaiting his response.
Naoki shook his head with a smile. "Don't worry, it won't. The soil in this ranch is already very fertile, and I'm a professional farmer. Even without this leaf, I can make this land thrive through methods like plowing, fertilizing, and smart planting."
He held out the Life Leaf to Absol. "Take it."
Absol was stunned by the offer.
Kira examined the leaf, its face reflecting its confusion. Like an innocent child, it voiced the question on its mind: "Why does Naoki want to give such a precious treasure to Kira?"
"Naoki..." Kira called out softly.
"Yes?" Naoki looked at it.
Overjoyed, Kira flew into Naoki's embrace, its voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you, you're the best, Naoki!"
Naoki chuckled.
He gently stroked Kira's soft body.
Haruka, witnessing this exchange, couldn't help but feel relieved. "This is truly for the best."
Satoshi nodded in agreement, sincerely happy for Kira. "Yes, this way, Kira won't have to worry about the Faraway Land anymore."
The gentle summer night breeze blew past, and the stars twinkled in the night sky.
The group spent a pleasant evening on the ranch.
The next morning, Satoshi and his friends prepared to depart.
Their journey through the Hoenn region was not yet over; they still had Gym badges to collect and a Grand Festival to participate in.
Additionally, they wanted to accompany Kira to return the leaf to the Faraway Land.
Hearing this, Naoki was not surprised.
Before they left, Naoki approached Satoshi with the Hyper Monkey.
He looked at the Hyper Monkey, then at Satoshi, and said, "These past few days, you've done a great job calming this little guy down. He's grown quite fond of you, and he yearns for a life beyond the ranch, but I can't leave. Would you be willing to take him with you and show him the world out there?"
Satoshi was taken aback for a moment.
Takeshi, however, understood Naoki's intention. "So, this Hyper Monkey wants to become one of Satoshi's Pokemon?"
The Hyper Monkey pounded its chest enthusiastically.
"I understand," Satoshi said with a smile. "Alright then, Pikachu, it's up to you now!"
A capture battle was about to unfold! Kenji and Haruka stayed behind to watch.
Meanwhile, Kira floated over to Naoki and asked, "Will Kira be able to see you again in the future?"
"Of course," Naoki nodded gently. "Anytime you want to see me, just come by."
Kira's eyes lit up. "That's wonderful!"
It had made up its mind; after returning the leaf to the Faraway Land, it would live on the World Tree with Mew and Teddiursa!
Naoki turned to the Adventuring Squad and gave them a nod of approval. "You did a great job with this request. Well done."
"Mew!"
"Miu~"
Mew and Teddiursa immediately looked embarrassed.
Naoki continued, "And you too, Thunder Bird. I heard about your brave performance in the battle. You're incredible!"
Thunder Bird's cheeks flushed with a suspicious red hue.
It turned away haughtily. "Chuu!"
At that moment, Satoshi's battle had also reached its conclusion.
He recalled the Hyper Monkey into its Poke Ball and exclaimed, "I caught the Hyper Monkey!"
"Then, goodbye, Satoshi," Naoki said.
Satoshi nodded firmly. "Yes, goodbye, Naoki. One day in the future, I will definitely return to the Paldea region with Pikachu, and we will challenge you and Goure again!"
Naoki smiled. "I look forward to that day. Until then, I wish you smooth sailing on your journey."
"Goodbye!"
"Goodbye!"
With that, Satoshi and his friends, aspiring to become Pokemon Masters, left Naoki's ranch and continued their quest to collect Gym badges. What new adventures awaited them in the future?
The figures of Satoshi and his friends gradually faded into the distance.
From within a bush, Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyarth watched them leave.
"The brat's gone," Kojirou muttered.
"Now what, Nyarth?" Nyarth asked.
The day before, when the owner of the shop they had worked at saw the snacks, he realized it had all been a misunderstanding.
Not only did he let them off the hook, but upon learning that their "boat" had been destroyed and that they had been unfortunate enough to end up working for him, he also gave them some money to help them get home.
"Of course, we're going after the brat's Pikachu!" Musashi replied without hesitation.
Those Dragonites were not opponents they could handle, and anyone who could have that many Dragonites delivering for them must be a big shot—not someone they could afford to mess with.
Compared to that, capturing Pikachu seemed like a much easier plan.
More importantly, they didn't want to accidentally provoke some big shot that even Team Rocket and Boss Sakaki couldn't handle.
Furthermore, Team Rocket had no plans to venture into the Paldea region for the time being, so they might as well stick to the Hoenn region and help Boss Sakaki investigate Team Magma and Team Aqua while also trying to capture Pikachu.
"In that case, let's get going right now!"
Kojirou could almost see the bright future that awaited them.
Suddenly, a flash of white light appeared, and a Tropius emerged from its Poke Ball.
"Sonans!"
