Chapter 465: [Illusory Battle] (Part 8): The Second Phase of the War Game
Chapter 465: [Illusory Battle] (Part 8): The Second Phase of the War Game
After ambushing and eliminating one player, Su Yu's area transformed into a three-on-one situation.
But Su Yu had always been fearless, even without any buffs. Now, with the buffs, wouldn't it be even easier to take them down?
Su Yu didn't waste any time on pleasantries. Under his control, his army charged forward with overwhelming momentum, targeting the nearest enemy force.
The "missile arrows" formed by the [Arcane Convergence Array] were unleashed once more, aimed at a player who was farther away.
This player's heart sank as he hurriedly commanded his mages and priests to cast protective shields.
However, the damage from Su Yu's army was now twice as powerful as before!
A single "missile" struck, and the player's defenses crumbled, forcing him to permanently leave the battlefield.
Witnessing this, the players commanding the remaining two armies fell into utter despair.
What started as a four-on-two situation had now been reduced to a two-on-one, with half of their forces wiped out in an instant. How could they possibly continue this fight?
One of the players, a fellow countryman, immediately chose to abandon the battle and leave the illusory realm without a second thought.
The situation was now a one-on-one battle.
Su Yu's army, like a pack of ravenous wolves, launched a ferocious assault on the last remaining enemy. Within a minute, the commander of this army was slain, and Su Yu's buffs soared to the eighth layer.
It was only then that the remaining four teams, who had been encircling Su Yu, finally arrived on the scene.
Seeing Su Yu's army with an eighth-layer buff, they were filled with despair.
An eighth-layer buff! There was no way they could defeat him now!
...
The subsequent battles were a one-sided slaughter as Su Yu's forces decimated all remaining enemy armies.
The four players' forces scattered to the four corners of the map, hoping to use the game's rules (if two commanders survive in a region at 25 minutes, both are eliminated) to drag Su Yu down with them.
But Su Yu split his forces into four, heading to each corner to systematically eliminate them one by one.
Even with only a quarter of his army, they were still too powerful for the enemy to withstand.
As for the army that had remained motionless the entire time, Su Yu carefully observed and discovered that their commander had simply disconnected.
In the end, at the 18-minute mark, Su Yu successfully eliminated all the players, including the disconnected one, and advanced to the next round.
Watching Su Yu's opponents fall one by one, Morning Star yawned lazily, "I have to say, Nemesis, your opponents are pretty weak."
"Actually, it's not that they're weak."
"Then what is it?"
"It's that I'm too strong."
"..."
Time ticked by.
Seven minutes later, the announcement for the second round of the war game echoed in Su Yu's ears:
"Congratulations to players [Nemesis], [Candy], [Alex], [!!] (which translates to 'Loyalty!'), and [No Lack of Armor] for advancing to the second round."
"Second Round Rules: Each player will receive an identity card, which can be the Lord, Loyalist, Rebel, or Traitor."
"The Lord and Loyalist win by eliminating all Rebels."
"The Rebels win by killing the Lord."
"The Traitor wins by ensuring the Lord's survival, eliminating all other players, and then defeating the Lord in a one-on-one battle."
"This is a five-player mode: one Lord, one Loyalist, two Rebels, and one Traitor."
"Due to the high difficulty of the Traitor role, all attributes of the Traitor's forces are increased by 30%."
"Each player starts with 3,250 soldiers, the same types as in the first round."
"The second round map introduces three new special structures: [Outpost] (occupying it restores your army's health and increases defense when stationed), [Gold Mine] (produces gold), and [Mercenary Camp] (allows you to recruit mercenaries using gold)."
"To ensure strategic depth, a public channel has been added, allowing all players to communicate."
This match has a 25-minute time limit. If the time runs out and there's no clear winner, the system will determine the final victor based on each team's performance.
Note: Mercenaries are much stronger than regular soldiers.
After the countdown ended, Su Yu was transported to the second virtual realm.
"Randomly obtaining your 'Identity Card'."
"Identity Card obtained successfully. Your identity for this round is—'Traitor.'"
"Received the 'Traitor' exclusive buff, increasing all attributes of your troops by 30%."
Su Yu ignored the notifications and looked around.
The map of the second virtual realm was a dense mountain forest, almost entirely covered in lush, verdant trees.
"Morning Star," Su Yu said, looking at the small blue and white cat on his shoulder.
"Meow~" Morning Star understood immediately.
She transformed into her [Stellar Core Dragon] form.
Su Yu leaped onto Morning Star's back, and she took off into the sky.
Rising to a height of 100 meters, Su Yu could see the entire map clearly.
He carefully counted: there were 10 outposts, 15 gold mines, and 5 different types of mercenary camps.
One of the mercenary camps was covered in layers of plants, exuding a natural aura, and was named the [Nature Camp]. The other four were surrounded by holy light, shadow, fire, and frost, respectively, and were named accordingly.
It wasn't hard to deduce that the soldiers from these 5 mercenary camps would have some sort of rock-paper-scissors relationship with each other.
Using the game's built-in screenshot tool, Su Yu captured the entire environment.
Then, Morning Star brought Su Yu back to the ground.
"Counter," she said, transforming back into a cat and perching on his shoulder. "Should we concentrate our forces and wipe out the four teams like we did in the first round?"
"Let me think," Su Yu said, stroking his chin.
After a moment's consideration, he shook his head seriously. "No, the risk is too high."
"This map doesn't allow for troop recovery after victory like the last one. If we charge in recklessly, we might end up in a brutal war of attrition."
"I might have taken the risk if there weren't any [Mercenary Camps]. But with these buildings, if we start eliminating the rebels and loyalists, the lord can mine gold to buy more mercenaries and then fortify themselves in an [Outpost]. We could end up losing."
"Right, that makes sense," the cat nodded. "So what do you suggest?"
"What we need to do," Su Yu said thoughtfully, "is to capture as many gold mines as possible. Economy is the first priority."
"Morning Star, I'm going to split our entire army into five groups. You take two, and I'll take three. We'll each head to the nearest five gold mines."
Five gold mines were a third of the total, and Su Yu was being ambitious.
"Me lead two groups?" the cat looked puzzled. "But I don't know anything about military strategy. What if the enemy attacks?"
Su Yu smiled reassuringly. "If you're attacked, just retreat to another mine. If it gets too tough, bring your troops back to me. I won't blame you."
"Okay, I'll give it a try," Morning Star nodded hesitantly.
With Morning Star's agreement, Su Yu quickly divided the entire army into five equal parts.
He gave two groups to Morning Star to capture two more remote gold mines.
Su Yu took the remaining three groups and headed into the heart of the map, targeting the gold mines that were more likely to be contested by enemies.
As for the [Outpost] buildings, they weren't a priority in the early stages. He would consider them in the later stages of the war.
