Chapter 464: Priceless Compensation
Chapter 464: Priceless Compensation
Lu Jiaxin accepted the shares of Wansheng Real Estate and Wansheng Bank from the Lu family. If it weren't for Gu Wenfeng and Wang Lin protecting her with their lives, she would have ended up in the hands of the kidnappers and would have suffered greatly, if not killed. This compensation was well-deserved, and there was no reason to refuse it.
Seeing her willingness to accept the shares, Elder Nie felt relieved. He said, "Miss Lu, Ah Zhan truly cares for you, and I hope you won't take your anger out on him because of this incident."
Lu Jiaxin was a rational person. Her previous request for calm was to observe the attitude of the Nie family, especially Nie Zhan and his parents, towards Kon Hui Juan. Now that Nie Zhan had decided to let Kon Hui Juan rot in jail, and Elder Nie and Nie Manli had not only apologized but also offered compensation, her anger had subsided considerably. However, she couldn't possibly take the money and still talk about breaking up: "I'll have a proper talk with Ah Zhan."
Nie Manli was so angry she felt like exploding, but she dared not show it. Instead, she had to force a smile, afraid that any outburst would result in even more shares being given away.
Elder Nie, with his frail health, only stayed for a short while before taking his leave, not forgetting to invite Lu Jiaxin to their home.
Seeing Nie Manli's forced smile, Lu Jiaxin's mood improved even more, and she agreed to visit them when she had the time. However, seeing Nie Manli's sour expression, she felt even less inclined to visit the Nie family mansion.
As the car departed from the Lu family mansion, Nie Manli pulled a long face and grumbled, "Dad, why did you give her shares in Wansheng Real Estate and the bank? I thought you said those shares would be for Jingwen and the others in the future?"
Elder Nie replied coldly, "If it weren't for your obsession with that dog thing and your failure to discipline Jing Shu properly, would he have caused such a ruckus over marrying Kon Hui Juan? If that jinx hadn't entered our family, we wouldn't be in this mess."
He was disgusted with Kon Hui Juan and deeply disappointed in Nie Jing Shu. He wanted them both out of his sight.
"But that's still too much. Giving a couple of ancient paintings would have been enough." Nie Manli argued.
Elder Nie snorted, "Do you think Miss Lu is some country bumpkin? She has several boxes of valuable items stored in our bank."
"Also, I told you before we came that I wouldn't say anything unless I asked you to. If you hadn't interrupted, I would have only given Miss Lu a 5% stake in the real estate business."
Nie Manli's regret was palpable, and she also thought Lu Jiaxin was being overly greedy.
Back at home, Elder Nie called Nie Jingwen into his study and informed him about the share transfer. "Your mother interrupted inappropriately, and Miss Lu looked quite displeased at the time, so I added a 1% stake in Wansheng Bank."
Nie Jingwen lamented, "Grandfather, a 2.3% stake in Wansheng Real Estate would have been sufficient. Five percent is too much."
As far as he knew, after giving Nie Zhan a 41% stake, Grandfather only had 5% of Wansheng Real Estate left in his name. Now that this 5% had been given to Lu Jiaxin, he no longer had any shares in the real estate business.
Elder Nie asked, "Are you unhappy about this?"
Nie Jingwen nodded. "I am a bit reluctant to let go, but I trust that you have your reasons for this decision, Grandfather."
Elder Nie was pleased. His eldest grandson was indeed the most considerate: "Ah Zhan has been going through the motions since he took over Wansheng Real Estate. While other companies are progressing, Wansheng has been stagnant. Standing still is the same as moving backward. But ever since he started dating Miss Lu, he's become more proactive. He's not only raising capital and buying land, but he's also expanding into new areas."
"We, the Nie family, are in the wrong regarding Kon Hui Juan. If we don't give her a proper resolution, a woman like her will definitely break up with Ah Zhan.
Nie Zhan received a phone call from his grandfather, informing him that Lu Jiaxin had accepted the compensation of shares in Wansheng Real Estate and the bank. This relief washed over him, knowing that based on his understanding of Lu Jiaxin, her acceptance signaled a resolution to the conflict.
Hanging up with his grandfather, Nie Zhan immediately called Lu Jiaxin. This time, she answered, and he cautiously asked, "Jiaxin, I want to come and see you."
"Come over," she replied.
Less than an hour later, Nie Zhan arrived at the Lu family mansion. Lu Jiaxin was in the gym, running on the treadmill with her earphones on and unaware of his arrival.
Nie Zhan didn't dare interrupt her, so he sat quietly by the side and waited. Lu Jiaxin, mindful of the time, slowed to a stop and stepped off the treadmill to wipe the sweat from her face with a towel.
Noticing Nie Zhan sitting beside her, she asked, "When did you get here?"
"About ten minutes ago," he replied.
Lu Jiaxin acknowledged with an 'oh' before continuing, "Your grandfather gave me a 5% stake in the real estate business and a 1% stake in the bank. I've accepted them."
"It's only right that you receive compensation for the tremendous fright you experienced," Nie Zhan said. He then took out a share transfer contract from his briefcase and added, "Jiaxin, I failed to handle my family matters properly, and it resulted in you being wronged so badly. These 10% of the shares are my compensation to you."
If he had simply given them to her as a gift, Lu Jiaxin would have refused. But as compensation, she accepted without hesitation. She carefully reviewed the contract before signing her name to it.
After not seeing each other for several days, Nie Zhan had been worried that Lu Jiaxin would truly break up with him. Now that the crisis had passed, all he wanted was to hold her in his arms.
Lu Jiaxin pushed him away, saying, "I'm all sweaty. Don't you find it disgusting?"
Nie Zhan cajoled her, saying, "No, your sweat smells sweet."
Lu Jiaxin's body was sticky from the intense workout, and although she wanted to shower, she knew it was not advisable right after exercising. Hearing his words, she shuddered and said, "You complain about your mother being a love-obsessed fool, but you're no better. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror; you're just like her."
Nie Zhan was prepared to face his grandfather's wrath for giving away 10% of the shares. Lu Jiaxin intended to keep these shares, knowing that if they got married, the shares would eventually go to their children. However, if they were to break up along the way, she would return them. Of course, the compensation offered by Nie's grandfather was neither returnable nor negotiable.
"If it's you, I'd gladly be a love-obsessed fool," Nie Zhan confessed.
Aside from his father, none of the men Nie Manlin had been with afterward amounted to anything. They all depended on her financially. Lu Jiaxin, on the other hand, was different. Since they started dating, his net worth had more than doubled, and even his grandfather attributed it to her positive influence.
