Chapter 463: Gun God Tong's Departure
Chapter 463: Gun God Tong's Departure
September 25th, 2017
Qiangyin City, late at night.
Two figures suddenly appeared on the streets.
"Master, why are we leaving at this hour?" Little Zhao Yun asked, puzzled.
Gun God Tong, who was walking ahead, paused for a moment, not answering for a while, or perhaps unsure how to respond.
Should he tell Little Zhao Yun that he had a mental breakdown during the day, and impulsively showed off his combat strength, fearing that Lu HaiKong would be even more reluctant to let them go?
"Master, you didn't even give us a heads-up before leaving. Is this a bit inappropriate?" Little Zhao Yun asked again.
"Don't worry, I've informed the Governor," Gun God Tong replied nonchalantly.
As Gun God Tong pulled Zhao Yun by the hand, ready to leave, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes flashing with a sharp glint: "Who's there?"
Zhao Yun was perplexed by Gun God Tong's reaction. He looked around but saw nothing unusual.
The surroundings remained quiet, not a soul in sight.
Just as Little Zhao Yun was wondering, a figure appeared about ten meters away from them.
"Greetings, Mr. Tong. My lord knows of your departure and has come to see you off. Please wait a moment, Mr. Tong."
Gun God Tong could sense that although the person was polite, there was a hint of subtle hostility towards him. This was understandable. Lu HaiKong had tried to recruit them, and yet this old man still had the audacity to show up unannounced. Ma Pin had been more than courteous by not drawing his sword and giving them a couple of strikes.
Gun God Tong's eyebrows furrowed, and he was about to refuse instinctively, but at that moment, the sound of galloping horses approached. Gun God Tong's expression changed, and before long, Lu HaiKong arrived with his men.
Upon his arrival, Lu HaiKong's first words were of reproach: "Old sir, leaving without a word is not very considerate."
"The Governor is busy with official duties..."
"Enough, Mr. Tong. There must be a reason for your actions, and Lu does not wish to pursue the matter." Lu HaiKong was displeased, but he did not let his emotions get the better of him.
"Although Lu HaiKong sincerely wants to keep you both here, if Mr. Tong insists on leaving, Lu cannot force you to stay. I can only offer a meager farewell gift."
Although Lu HaiKong had a thousand thoughts about keeping them, Gun God Tong was determined to leave. Lu HaiKong had no choice but to improve their relationship before they departed.
As Lu HaiKong's words fell, Chen Ping, standing next to him, presented two horses and a small package of gold.
Lu HaiKong also handed a package of military manuals to Little Zhao Yun: "Little one, don't forget that you participated in my recruitment platform. I've reserved a position for you. These military manuals are for you. When you're ready to enter the world, don't forget to come and take up the post."
Little Zhao Yun looked at the package Lu HaiKong handed him, then glanced at Gun God Tong, who nodded for him to accept it.
Lu HaiKong's face broke into a smile, finally managing to improve their relationship and lay the foundation for future recruitment.
With the gifts presented and their relationship improved, Lu HaiKong did not stop Gun God Tong and Zhao Yun from leaving Qiangyin City.
Gun God Tong and Zhao Yun's departure was a source of frustration for Lu HaiKong. What could he do? He couldn't force them to stay as he had done with Wang Yue, as the chances of success were slim, and the difficulty was too great.
"Let's go back, open some treasure chests, and change our mood. Then we can wash up and get some sleep."
Watching Gun God Tong and Zhao Yun's departing figures, Lu HaiKong sighed and said.
After speaking, Lu HaiKong led his team back to the county government office.
However, Lu HaiKong would not get a good night's sleep tonight. As soon as he returned to the county office, someone blocked his way.
"Why are you here at this late hour, Ye Wu? You should be getting some sleep." Lu HaiKong casually chatted with the girl, but as he approached, he noticed her eyes were red and she looked pitiful, a stark contrast to her usual feisty self.
Lu HaiKong paused, then asked, "What's wrong? Who bullied you?"
As he spoke, Lu HaiKong noticed the horse Ye Wu was leading. It was none other than Zhao YueEr's horse, 'Xiao LuZi', with a strength of 80.
Seeing the horse, Lu HaiKong seemed to understand something, and his mood suddenly sank.
"She's gone?"
"Hmm?"
"Did she go to face Lu Bu in her final battle?" Lu HaiKong asked again.
"You know?" Ye Wu exclaimed, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"It wasn't hard to guess. When I saw the scar on her face and her combat strength of 91, I had a hunch," Lu HaiKong sighed. "Even though she tried to hide it, I could tell her body was weak and covered in scars. Her current body had little life left in it."
As Lu HaiKong delved deeper into his study of the 'Body Tempering Martial Art', he began to understand the limits of the human body and the drawbacks of Zhao YueEr's cultivation method.
"If you knew, why didn't you stop her? Why did you just watch her go to her death?" Ye Wu's eyes turned red, and she glared at Lu HaiKong like an angry little lioness, as if she wanted to pounce and bite him.
"Could you have stopped her?"
"You didn't even try. How do you know you couldn't have stopped her?" Lu HaiKong's passive response further irritated Ye Wu.
Facing Ye Wu's anger, Lu HaiKong fell silent for a moment before speaking. "About two years ago, when I first met her, she left a deep impression on me. At that moment, I told myself that no matter what kind of girl I married, it couldn't be someone like her. It's interesting that in the end, I still fell for this girl, which even surprised me."
"We've known each other for a while, but the time we spent together wasn't long. All in all, it was less than a month. I don't understand how I fell for her."
"But I'm certain that from the moment I liked her, I should've realized she wasn't a canary to be caged. She's a fierce tiger, an untamable tigress. Her gaze was always fixed on the peak of martial arts, the highest pursuit in her eyes. I had no right or reason to take that away from her."
"If she weren't so stubborn, maybe I wouldn't have liked her."
Ye Wu's eyes remained red as she repeated, "So you just watched her go to her death?"
"No, because I firmly believe she won't die until she reaches the peak of martial arts. She absolutely won't die before that."
After saying this, Lu HaiKong turned and walked into the county office without paying attention to Ye Wu.
Watching Lu HaiKong's departing figure, Ye Wu clenched her teeth. But was Lu HaiKong really as carefree as he seemed?
The answer was no. He just didn't want to show his vulnerability to Ye Wu...
