Chapter 462: Mayor Thomas' Request, The Irritable Hyper Ape!
Chapter 462: Mayor Thomas' Request, The Irritable Hyper Ape!
On the 7th of May, 200, in the Pokemon world, Naoki looked contemplatively at the two leaves from the World Tree that lay on his desk.
One leaf, the Awakening Leaf, had already been crafted into Leaf Dumplings, ready to be fed to Celebi and spare it from its millennium of slumber. The other, the glowing leaf of life, could sustain the Feranus region in Celebi's stead.
With these preparations, everything was set for Celebi's arrival.
It had been three days since the Adventurer's Guild last called him. In the meantime, Teddiursa and Mew had updated him on their progress. They had successfully located Celebi in the Pokemon Amusement Park, despite Butler's attempts to stop them. Luckily, they had sent out Zapdos, whose powerful Thunder Shock attack had shattered Butler's dreams.
Now, the guild should be escorting Celebi to the ranch. Tonight was the night of the millennium comet, and if Naoki's predictions were correct, Celebi would awaken this very evening.
"Knock, knock!"
The sound of knocking startled Naoki. Who could be visiting the ranch at this hour? He put down the leaves and went to open the door.
Standing at the door was the elderly face of Mayor Thomas.
"Mayor Thomas?" Naoki was taken aback but quickly invited the old man into his home.
However, Mayor Thomas shook his head. "Naoki, I have come to ask for your help with something today."
"Go on," Naoki said.
Mayor Thomas explained, "It's about the mother Motoxizard. She's fifty-three years old this year, and lately, she hasn't been in the best shape. I took her to the Pokemon Center yesterday for a check-up."
"Miss Joy from the Pokemon Center said her time is near, and we don't have much time left. So, I wanted to ask you to come with me to visit her."
Naoki was perplexed. "Do Motoxizards only live to be in their fifties?"
Mayor Thomas shook his head. "Not usually. Under normal circumstances, Motoxizards can live for a very long time. But this particular Motoxizard was severely injured when she was younger while protecting me."
"It's possible that her weakened state and reduced lifespan are due to that incident, similar to Adake's Fire Moth."
Naoki immediately understood and turned to retrieve a bottle of Life Sheep Milk from the refrigerator. Unaware of the situation, Motoxizard followed Naoki, preparing to go into town with him and Mayor Thomas.
"Gaoh?" Motoxizard looked confused.
It glanced at Naoki and then at Mayor Thomas. Perhaps sensing something amiss from the mayor's expression, Motoxizard seemed to realize that something was wrong.
Gould, who had been cooling off in the shade nearby, noticed the situation and hurried over to join them.
"Agasi!"
Naoki understood Gould's intention—it wanted to come along too.
"Alright," Naoki agreed, turning to instruct the Ariadosi siblings, "Take care of the house while I'm gone. I'll be taking Motoxizard and Gould into town."
"Ai Yi," the siblings chorused, a little worried but obedient as always.
With Gould carrying Naoki, and Motoxizard carrying Mayor Thomas, they soon arrived at the mayor's home.
As they reached the door, Mayor Thomas gazed at Motoxizard and sighed. "Little Motoxizard, go and see your mother."
Motoxizard's worst fears were confirmed.
It rushed into the room, followed closely by Gould.
Inside, the elderly Motoxizard lay on the floor, her eyelids drooping, looking utterly listless.
Anyone could tell that she was nearing the end of her life.
Motoxizard seemed to sense something and ran directly to the older Motoxizard's side, letting out an anxious cry.
"Gaoh!"
Hearing her child's voice, the mother Motoxizard lifted her eyelids and looked at her offspring.
She reached out with her claw, stroking her child gently as if to comfort it and ease its sadness.
Tears had already begun to well up in Motoxizard's eyes.
"Agasi..."
Witnessing this heart-wrenching scene, Gould hung its head low, appearing deeply saddened.
But soon, it turned its gaze to Naoki.
Naoki pulled out a bottle of Life Sheep Milk from his pocket and stepped forward to the older Motoxizard. Amidst Mayor Thomas' puzzled gaze, Naoki fed the milk to the Pokemon.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine."
As strength returned to her, the Motoxizard mother cried out in surprise and then looked at her body in bewilderment.
"Gaoh?!"
"What is this...?" Mayor Thomas exclaimed, his eyes wide in astonishment.
The Motoxizard's tears abruptly stopped, and then, realizing what had happened, she let out a joyful cry.
"Gaoh!"
"That's milk from the riding goats on my ranch," Naoki explained to Mayor Thomas.
Mayor Thomas immediately recalled the expensive milk sold in town.
His aged face was filled with disbelief.
"What in the world is going on here?"
"It's probably the power of the Leafeon," Naoki took a deep breath and continued, "Leafeon blessed my ranch, and the milk produced by the riding goats is blessed by nature. It can help Pokemon regain their strength and heal even severe injuries."
In other words, the Life Sheep Milk could forcefully extend the lifespan of Pokemon whose lives had been shortened due to injuries.
"That milk has such an effect..." Mayor Thomas mumbled, his face still reflecting his astonishment.
The revived Motoxizard mother had already excitedly embraced her Motoxizard in a tight hug.
Gould, seeing this, felt a twinge of envy. He also wanted to nuzzle up to his mother, but the thought of his current appearance made him hesitate.
Naoki watched this scene, filled with mixed emotions.
How should he put it?
Pokemon were both powerful and fragile creatures.
They possessed incredible strength and innate combat abilities that were unmatched.
But despite their power, they were just like humans—ordinary living beings in this world.
Moderate battles would enhance their strength and temper their bodies.
However, excessive battles or severe injuries could shorten their lifespans, leading to premature death.
Not only Adake's Fire Moth but also many other trainers around the world faced similar situations.
The former champion of the Galar region, Mustard, had experienced this firsthand.
In his earlier years, he had been an undefeated champion.
But due to intense and relentless battles over the years, his partner Pokemon had passed away prematurely.
After that, Mustard's performance began to decline, and his undefeated record was broken.
Just then, the Motoxizard, who had calmed down, turned her head and noticed Gould standing by, lost in thought.
Gould's eyes were slightly moist, as if he had been crying as well.
Seeing this, the Motoxizard's face filled with confusion.
"Gaoh?" (Why are you crying?)
Gould: "..."
Gould didn't want to answer.
The Motoxizard grew even more perplexed, staring at Gould intently but unable to discern the reason.
At that moment, Mayor Thomas expressed his gratitude to Naoki.
He had been deeply concerned about the health of his old partner, and when Miss Joy had told him that her end was near, he had been distraught and unable to sleep well for several days.
Now, seeing the Motoxizard gradually recovering, the elderly mayor finally felt relieved.
He wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and said with a heartfelt tone, "I don't know how to thank you enough, Naoki. You've truly helped me this time."
"Don't mention it," Naoki smiled and shook his head. "When I first arrived here, you also helped me a lot."
Talking about this, Mayor Thomas couldn't help but laugh through his tears.
"It was nothing, all thanks to your hard work. You've transformed that rundown ranch into a well-organized place, even surpassing your grandfather. If that old man could see the ranch now, he would be overjoyed."
Naoki smiled gently.
Mayor Thomas wanted to invite them to stay for lunch, but Naoki politely declined, as he was concerned about Kira and the others.
After bidding farewell, he returned to the ranch with Gould and the Motoxizard.
However, as soon as Naoki arrived home, he noticed a commotion in the orchard, with birds and dogs scattering in all directions.
Several fruit trees had even toppled over.
Naoki was baffled by the scene before him.
What had happened? Could it be that a wild Pokemon had intruded onto the ranch?
He quickly made his way there with Gould and the Motoxizard in tow.
Upon arriving, he found that his sister, Aiguanshi, and Butterfree had already reached the spot, along with the three riding goats.
These Pokemon glared angrily at the creature bound by vines on the grass.
It was a primate Pokemon with a yellow and white body, brown markings on its back, and a tuft of orange hair on its head—a Hyper Ape.
Naoki was taken aback for a moment.
Aiguan Shi and Badi Hu also noticed Naoki's arrival, and the group of Pokemon turned to complain about the Hyper Ape's behavior.
"Ai Yi!" (This bad guy knocked over several fruit trees!)
"Fuyi!" (It tried to attack us!)
"Buye! (I hate it!)
"
Naoki felt a headache coming on.
The Lazy Otter that had been sleeping in his orchard had evolved into a Hyper Ape.
He looked at the Hyper Ape, which was still struggling violently even though its body was bound by the Riding Goat's vine whip, letting out "huh-huh" sounds from its throat.
It looked like it was about to jump up and hit someone in a fit of rage.
Naoki stepped forward and tried to communicate with it: "Hyper Ape? Do you still recognize me?"
The Hyper Ape looked like it was about to do something rash.
It recognized this human; he was the one who rescued it from the forest fire a long time ago.
It wanted to nod, but the boiling blood in its body made it so restless that it couldn't sit still for even a minute. All it wanted to do was jump around and cause a ruckus.
"Let it go first!"
Naoki instructed the Riding Goat.
He had some understanding of Hyper Apes and knew that their destructive behavior was due to their physical nature.
After evolving from a Lazy Otter into a Hyper Ape, this Pokemon might have had a burst of energy that had been building up during the Lazy Otter stage.
This caused their blood to boil and their hearts to beat ten times faster.
If Hyper Apes didn't get enough exercise, their stress levels would rise, affecting their health.
This also made Hyper Apes extremely difficult to tame. They were aggressive and couldn't calm down unless they were causing trouble, swinging their arms wildly and destroying everything in their path.
This situation was easily manageable for trainers, who could simply engage the Hyper Apes in constant Pokemon battles to expend their excess energy until they evolved into a Kingler.
However, at this moment...
As soon as the Riding Goat loosened the vine whip binding the Hyper Ape, it started wreaking havoc.
Instead of attacking Naoki, it turned its attention to the surrounding fruit trees, destroying them one by one. In the blink of an eye, another fruit tree was toppled.
Naoki: "..."
Just as the Hyper Ape was about to rush towards the next tree, Naoki quickly called out to the Riding Goat.
"Riding Goat, use Vine Whip!"
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
With a piercing sound, the agitated Hyper Ape was once again securely bound.
Naoki tried to help the Hyper Ape expend its energy through Pokemon battles.
He sent out his Fire Eevee, Moto Lizard, Miltank, and Butterfree to take turns battling the Hyper Ape.
But before long, this group of Pokemon came back to Naoki to protest.
Fire Eevee and Butterfree complained that the Hyper Ape hit too hard and that they were in pain. They didn't want to battle it anymore.
Even the energetic Miltank was overwhelmed by the Hyper Ape's antics.
Although Moto Lizard could knock out the Hyper Ape, it would soon be back on its feet, ready to cause more trouble.
The Hyper Ape's vitality was incredibly robust. Although the other Pokemon on the ranch tried to help it expend its energy, the Hyper Ape would quickly recover and resume its rampage across the ranch.
In just one afternoon, it knocked over five fruit trees, ruined Diriya's onion garden, and wreaked havoc on the crops in the fields.
Diriya, furious, chased it with an onion in hand.
Although the Hyper Ape was temporarily knocked out, after an hour or so of rest, it regained its energy and resumed its violent tantrum.
In the end, Naoki and the Pokemon on the ranch were exhausted by this restless creature.
Looking at the devastated ranch, Naoki felt a pang of heartbreak.
Hyper Apes were simply not suited for ranch life.
They belonged with trainers who could take them to battle other trainers, challenge gyms, and expend their abundant energy.
In contrast, most of the Pokemon on the ranch had become complacent and preferred a peaceful life without intense battles.
Just as Naoki was at a loss for what to do, the Great Adventurer Squad returned with Kira and company.
Accompanying them were four familiar faces.
On the far left stood a pair of siblings, a sister in red and a brother in a green T-shirt and black-rimmed glasses.
In the middle was a hat-wearing youth with a Pikachu perched on his shoulder.
And on the far right was a slightly older-looking youth with tanned skin and narrow eyes.
Naoki was taken aback when he saw who had arrived.
May, Max, Ash, and Brock...
Weren't they traveling in the Hoenn region? How did they end up in Pasio with Celebi and the others?
