Chapter 459: Mirage Duel (Part 2): The Final Winner of Temple Run
Chapter 459: Mirage Duel (Part 2): The Final Winner of Temple Run
The Temple Run game entered its fourth stage.
At first, nothing out of the ordinary happened upon entering this stage.
However, after three turns, Su Yu was surprised to find that the track had transformed from a winding “zigzag” shape to a straight, unbroken line.
The track stretched straight toward the horizon, visible from end to end.
At the same time, nine identical tracks appeared around him—three to his left and six to his right. At the end of each track, a figure was sprinting furiously, representing the other nine players competing alongside him.
Su Yu glanced to his left and right and noticed that among the nine players, there were two Caucasians, two Africans, one mixed-race person with brown skin, and three Asians.
Of the three Asians, two looked like they were from China, and the remaining one looked like they were from South Korea.
So this is what cross-server competition means!
The ten players looked at each other, all wearing awkward expressions.
It was clear that meeting in this manner made everyone feel a bit uncomfortable.
At that moment, Bernina's soft, slightly teasing voice echoed in the ears of the ten players: "Warning! The game rules have changed: After each player collects 10 gold coins, two obstacles will randomly appear in front of two other players. Each player's speed will increase by 50% for 10 seconds."
As soon as Bernina finished speaking, Su Yu felt his character gradually speeding up.
And after collecting the first set of 10 gold coins, a shadow suddenly appeared just ahead of him.
Reacting quickly, Su Yu immediately dropped to the ground and slid forward, narrowly passing through the obstacle tunnel.
Just after exiting the tunnel, a vine suddenly sprouted up ahead. He quickly stood up and leaped high, narrowly avoiding the vine. The entire process was a test of his quick reflexes.
The other players around Su Yu weren't as fortunate.
The South Korean player had a stroke of luck, as no additional obstacles appeared in front of him. However, one of the Caucasian players had extremely bad luck, with four consecutive vines appearing in front of him. He was tripped by one of the vines and was ejected from the race.
In just one round, the number of players dropped to "7/100."
The competition continued.
As the speed increased, even Su Yu began to struggle.
He couldn't afford to look at the others and focused on his own track, trying to collect as many gold coins as possible.
Overall, Su Yu's luck was quite good. No excessive or impossible obstacles appeared in front of him, and although he faced several close calls, he managed to navigate through them without incident.
After running for about half a minute, the number of participants dropped to "3/100."
In the midst of his sprint, Su Yu glanced to his right and saw that only two tracks and two struggling figures remained.
One was the South Korean player, and the other was a thin, bespectacled Caucasian middle school student, reminiscent of the nerds often subjected to bullying in American movies.
"Warning! Warning! Entering the fifth stage in 3, 2, 1, 0."
As the countdown ended, two large gray stones suddenly appeared in the hands of the three remaining players, and a bamboo basket filled with stones appeared on their backs.
Thanks to these stones, the running speed of Su Yu and the other two players drastically decreased, even slower than in the first stage.
The gorilla, which had been absent for some time, now appeared, charging down the track with a black wooden club in hand, swinging it like a golden cudgel, creating a fierce wind.
Su Yu tried to throw the stone in his hand but found that it seemed to be glued to his palm, making it impossible to let go.
The bamboo basket on his back was also firmly attached, and it would be difficult to remove it quickly, if at all.
"Use the stones in your hands and the basket to stop the monsters' advance." The voice of Bernina echoed in the ears of the three players, signaling the fifth phase of the game.
Sima and the Caucasian middle school student immediately turned and began throwing stones at the gorillas, and Su Yu joined them.
However, the three gorillas were not easy to handle.
Every time Su Yu and his companions threw a stone, the gorillas would use their wooden clubs to bat the stones away, much like a baseball game.
Within a few seconds, each of them had thrown six or seven stones, but not a single one hit the gorillas; all were deflected by the clubs.
Sima's sixth stone took a tricky trajectory. After the gorilla batted it away, it flew straight toward Su Yu. Fortunately, Su Yu quickly lay down to avoid it, and the stone narrowly missed him.
Sima scratched his head sheepishly and gave Su Yu an apologetic smile.
But then his smile froze, as if he had just realized something!
Su Yu and the Caucasian middle school student also caught on!
Since the gorillas could always bat the stones away, if they adjusted the angle of their throws, they could make the stones hit their competitors after being deflected. This could help them pass the level smoothly.
Su Yu was the first to think of this.
He calculated the angle between himself and Sima, and threw two stones at the gorilla on the left, with a two-second interval between each throw.
Bang! Bang!
The gorilla batted the stones away, and they flew straight toward Sima!
Sima was taken aback and quickly threw the two stones in his hand, then lay down to avoid the incoming stone.
However, the "lying down" action couldn't last forever. Two seconds later, the game rules forced him to stand up, and he was hit squarely by the second stone that flew toward him.
Ah~~~
The stone hit his abdomen, and Sima screamed as he fell off the mountain ridge.
The Caucasian middle school student broke out in a cold sweat at the sight of Sima's fall. He turned to look at the gorilla, trying to figure out the angle at which he should throw his stone to hit Su Yu.
But to his surprise, one of the stones Sima had thrown was deflected by the gorilla and flew toward him!
The Caucasian middle school student didn't notice the stone flying at an angle and was hit in the leg, causing him to stumble and fall off the cliff.
"Congratulations, player [Counter], you have won the first Mirage Duel! You have collected 625 gold coins and received the reward [Jelifies' Gift (Rare)]."
Su Yu watched as Sima and the Caucasian middle school student fell.
This mode was actually quite entertaining!
First, it was very fair; no one could predict what would happen on the field, and success depended entirely on their reaction times.
Second, winning felt really good! It was much better than the pure slaughter in the previous Mirage Duel.
After the Caucasian middle school student was eliminated, a golden, glowing lamp appeared in front of Su Yu.
The lamp spun around and finally spat out a blue mist from its spout.
The blue mist condensed in mid-air, forming a blue, human-shaped elemental wearing a golden coat.
"I am the Genie Jelifies. Congratulations, adventurer, for passing the first level! I will grant you one wish!" the elemental Jelifies smiled at Su Yu.
