Chapter 457: Transforming Peter Pettigrew
Chapter 457: Transforming Peter Pettigrew
Upon hearing the rule, Ivan frowned, unsure if the other party was deliberately trying to make things difficult for him.
However, after a moment's hesitation, Ivan handed over his Wand, as he could still retain some of his combat abilities even without it.
Besides, Dumbledore was present at the meeting, so the other party shouldn't dare to act rashly.
The Auror collected the Wand and then gestured for him to follow.
Ivan strode in, and the noisy chatter filled his ears. He soon realized he was in a closed space.
The walls were made of dark stone, and the overall lighting was dim, with only the magical flames standing on either side illuminating the path.
In the center, a platform had been deliberately left open, where Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew were seated in chairs with chains, their hands and feet bound.
As their defense attorney, Dumbledore and Mrs. Pettigrew were by their side.
"I believe I have already explained this clearly, Your Honor!" Dumbledore's voice was loud and resonated throughout the enclosed courtroom.
"Ah, yes!" The Chief Warlock, dressed in white robes, stood on a high platform. He stared at Dumbledore for a moment before turning to Ivan, who had just reached the platform, and asked, "Mr. Ivan Hals! The defense attorney for Black just said that it was you who discovered Peter's true identity. Is that correct?"
"Yes!" Ivan nodded.
"Please recount the events!" The Chief Warlock stared intently at Ivan, his voice grave.
"This all began a year ago when I discovered a name on the Marauder's Map" Ivan recounted the story he had told many times before.
Although it was filled with numerous lies, Ivan was well-practiced, and he spoke without a hint of hesitation, even adjusting his expressions to fit the situation as needed.
After Ivan finished, several alchemy experts approached to examine the Marauder's Map, confirming that the magic on it indeed displayed the names of people in the area.
"Very well!" Hearing the feedback from the experts, the Chief Warlock stopped staring at Ivan and turned to Peter Pettigrew, who was bound in the chair.
"Mr. Peter, do you have anything else to say?"
Peter Pettigrew wore a bewildered expression, his face constantly changing.
Ivan's words were clear to him, and scattered memories kept surfacing in his mind, but he couldn't piece them together, making it impossible for him to refute them.
Fortunately, the Old Witch behind him pounded her cane hard and shouted, "Refute!"
Mrs. Pettigrew scanned the room, her gaze falling on the Wizengamot members seated on either side, and she trembled as she spoke.
"Gentlemen, ladies, a second-year student could recognize an Animagus Transformation a year ago and even find a way to counter it? That's absurd! He's lying, he must be lying!"
Mrs. Pettigrew glared at Ivan with a look of hatred, as if she wanted to tear him apart.
The committee members began to discuss among themselves, finding Mrs. Pettigrew's words reasonable. A second-year student couldn't possibly know so much about Animagus Transformations, let alone successfully counter them.
"Mrs. Pettigrew, I must remind you that Mr. Hals's Transfiguration skills are quite advanced. By his second year, they were already on par with those of an average adult wizard!"
Dumbledore's raised voice silenced the murmurs and successfully drew the attention of the committee members.
"Is that so? Please prove it to everyone then!" The Chief Warlock looked at Ivan with suspicion, not entirely trusting Dumbledore's statement.
"Just give me a Wand, and I can demonstrate it right here", Ivan said without a hint of fear. Transfiguration was his strongest suit.
The Chief Warlock nodded to an Auror standing nearby, who understood and returned the previously confiscated Wand to Ivan.
For a moment, all eyes were on Ivan, and the committee members whispered among themselves.
Ivan took the Wand and lightly tapped a nearby torch.
A deep blue flame shot up and then vanished with a loud pop. The iron base beneath it quickly melted, flowing and changing shape like a liquid.
In a short while, the liquid solidified, and another Peter Pettigrew, bound to a chair, appeared before everyone. His face bore the same bewildered expression as the real Peter, and he opened his mouth to speak, but only emitted some incomprehensible hisses.
Ivan put away his Wand, looking at the transformed "Peter Pettigrew" with a silent shake of his head. Transforming a living person was indeed much too difficult.
Each person has unique characteristics that are easy to distinguish, unlike animals where a general resemblance is sufficient. Moreover, the transformed person's intelligence was too low, like that of a mentally challenged individual. In Ivan's view, this attempt was already a failure.
However, the others in the room did not share his opinion. Mrs. Pettigrew's eyes widened in shock.
The "Peter Pettigrew" transformed by Ivan was almost indistinguishable from the real one. If he hadn't spoken, even she would have found it hard to tell the difference.
The Chief Warlock and the other committee members were equally amazed.
"Truly remarkable Transfiguration. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would find it hard to believe that a third-year student could perform such a spell."
"Yes, there's not a single flaw! This surpasses most Aurors."
"Let alone Aurors, transforming a living person is something even I can't do!"
The discussions grew louder, and the skepticism on the faces of the Wizengamot members was replaced with admiration. A few of the male wizards even stood up, eager to get a closer look, but the Aurors held them back.
Dumbledore was also surprised by the improvement in Ivan's Transfiguration skills over such a short period. He felt a sense of awe, knowing that at this rate, Ivan would surpass him in a few years.
"I believe this should answer everyone's doubts!" Ivan paid no attention to the praise, casually waved his Wand, and restored the torch to its original form. Then he turned to Mrs. Pettigrew and continued.
"Also, to my knowledge, your son, Peter Pettigrew, completed his Animagus Transformation before he even graduated. So, I hope you will have more trust and less doubt next time."
Before the Old Witch could respond, Sirius Black sneered.
"That was only because of the help from me and James. Otherwise, with Peter's courage, he would never have learned it in his lifetime!"
