Chapter 454: I, Lucius Kro, Don't Take Losses!
Chapter 454: I, Lucius Kro, Don't Take Losses!
"Kuromr., Kuromr.!"
Klah, transformed into a hulking werewolf, clutched a dying assassin in one massive paw as he approached the office building. Just ahead, he spotted Kuro and Lida.
"I found the ones who tried to kill—"
He never finished his sentence. His eyes widened at the sight of three Navy-uniformed men skewered like shish kebabs beside Kuro, and another Navy corpse bleeding out on the ground, bound by earthy tendrils. The black-haired youth standing there with a cigar clenched between his teeth looked positively livid.
Kuro's expression remained eerily calm—the kind of stillness that precedes a storm.
"Gu-ulp—"
Klah swallowed hard, crushing the assassin's throat in his grip before letting the body drop. His tail drooped as he lowered his head. "My fault, sir. I failed to maintain security in Shabondy. This breach shouldn't have happened."
"It's not your fault, Lida", Kuro said gravely.
"Oh."
Lida stepped forward, patting Klah's arm. "Revert to your normal form. This big werewolf body takes too much essence to heal."
Klah hastily shifted back to his human form, tossing the dead assassin aside like garbage.
"Essence Feedback!"
A glowing green aura flowed from Lida's hands into Klah's body, knitting shut the wounds across his chest and waist.
"You didn't need to do that", Klah muttered, adjusting his glasses. "I'm a Zoan-type. My regeneration is more than sufficient."
"Then why didn't you say so earlier?!" Lida snapped, rolling her eyes. She shook her tiny fist in his face. "You let me waste my energy healing you! You wanna get punched?!"
"Uh..."
Klah scratched his head, quickly changing the subject. "Kuromr., those assassins claimed they were sent by Kas. Do you think he's—"
"Kas is fine", Kuro interrupted. "He's coming."
As if on cue, a white blur streaked across the distance, moving so fast it left afterimages. The figure halted abruptly, revealing Kas's form.
The man looked like he'd been through hell—blood trickled from his temple, lips, and shoulder. He held another unconscious assassin by the collar, raising his injured arm in a stiff salute. "Kuromr.! I found this one sneaking—"
Pang!
Kuro flicked his index finger. A Fishman Karate strike tore through the assassin's skull like paper.
Kas dropped the corpse in shock, staring at Kuro with wide eyes. "But sir, I was going to interrogate him!"
Kuro's voice turned glacial. "I don't want any alive."
With a snap of his fingers, Kas winced as a needle-like bullet flew from his shoulder wound into Kuro's waiting palm.
"Not. One. Survivor."
The bullet glowed red-hot in Kuro's grip before he crushed it with a thunderous Boom, reducing it to molten slag that clattered to the ground.
"Let me heal you first, Kas."
Lida stepped forward, channeling her green essence into Kas. His wounds vanished instantly.
"Whoa!" Kas flexed his arm, eyes wide. "So this is Lidamiss's power? Amazing!"
He suddenly burst into tears. "You're even healing me from injuries I couldn't handle myself! Lidamiss, your kindness knows no bounds!"
"Are you done crying yet?" Lida twitched her lip, edging away from the weeping bearded man.
"Kurovice Admiral!"
Wilbur finally arrived, panting with a group of Navy officers trailing behind. "I heard a beast roar earlier, and—"
His voice died as he took in the carnage around him. "Commander Kas! You're covered in blood! Commander Klah! And Lidamiss's sleeve—what happened?!"
"The blood's still there, even if the wounds aren't", Klah muttered.
"Assassination attempt", Kas said bluntly. "All of us—Klahmr., Lidamiss, even Kuromr."
"Assassination?!" Wilbur paled. "But how could anyone dare attack the Navy in Shabondy?!"
"Wilbur." Kuro's voice cut through the air like a blade. "Mobilize the entire Navy."
"At once!"
Wilbur snapped to attention. "But sir, what exactly are we—"
"Search every inch", Kuro's eyes narrowed. "Shabondy is under lockdown. No one leaves their quarters without my command. Anyone caught outside? Arrest them. See anything suspicious? Execute first, ask questions later. I don't care who they are."
"Klah!"
"Present!"
"Send a message to Mariejois. No World Nobles are to descend to Shabondy until further notice. Tell them there are assassins loose here. Otherwise—" Kuro's teeth ground together. "I can't guarantee those arrogant fools won't end up dead."
Lida clamped her mouth shut. She knew that look—Kuro wasn't really angry about the assassins. He just wanted an excuse to slaughter any World Nobles stupid enough to show up while he was in this mood. His bloodshot eyes said it all.
"Assassination..." Kuro gazed at the sky after issuing his orders. "Cowards with no spine. Big Shot Funeral Director, I'll remember this. And Wilbur—send a message to Marineford. I want the Log Pose for Totto Land."
"Totto Land?!" Wilbur blinked. "You mean Big Mom's Totto Land?"
"Is there another one in this world?!" Kuro glared.
"But Kuromr., we don't have a Log Pose for Totto Land. The Navy doesn't chart courses to Four Emperors' territories, especially in the New World", Wilbur explained nervously.
"Then who does?!" Kuro snapped. "Forget it—I know who does. Get me the Log Pose for Dressrosa."
"At once!"
Wilbur saluted and ran off. Moments later, he returned with the device.
Kuro snatched the Log Pose, his body lifting into the air as he ascended toward the sky.
"Hey Kuro! Where are you going?!" Lida shouted.
"To end this once and for all!" Kuro's voice boomed from above. "If I don't teach them a lesson they'll never forget, this cowardly game will never stop! Assassinating me and my subordinates? They'll pay dearly!"
"Kuromr., you don't have to get this angry on my account!" Klah called, touched.
"Like you even matter!" Kuro shot back, making Klah's shoulders slump.
His eyes lingered on the bloodstain on Lida's sleeve. With a thunderous Boom, he launched himself into the sky, vanishing from sight in an instant.
Assassination attempts weren't games to him. If they weren't punished severely, the cowards would just try again. This time, his people had survived—but what if next time, they weren't so lucky? Who wanted to live in constant fear?
After all, I, Lucius Kro, never let anyone get away with making me bleed!
"Totto Land!!"
Riding the wind at supersonic speed, Kuro gritted his teeth, his voice slicing through the air like a blade: "Charlotte Big Mom!!"
