Chapter 454: Cardinal Lanchi's Baby Bus
Chapter 454: Cardinal Lanchi's Baby Bus
In the teleportation hall on the sixth sublevel, Antanas, Sinora, Pranai, and Huberian chatted leisurely as they waited.
Seated around a long table in the grand hall, the snacks on the table soon disappeared, and Huberian's liquor bottle was already empty.
A sense of eager anticipation hung in the cold air, their gazes often drifting towards the direction of the Wintry Corridor.
"Huberian, does the King know how much you can drink? She's trying so hard to shield you from the alcohol." Antanas exclaimed in amazement, watching Huberian drink water.
"He probably doesn't know, and he might even be afraid of alcohol himself." Huberian shook her head helplessly.
This was the first time she had seen Lanchi hesitate about something, but in the end, Lanchi resolutely stopped her from touching the Snowfield Spirits.
Antanas nodded. "The new King truly dotes on the Second Princess. Anyone who offends her will surely face all sorts of retaliation from the King."
As they chatted and laughed, a figure with black hair and green eyes soon appeared, striding slowly through the frost.
Every corridor she passed through seemed to be illuminated by her presence, and the harsh environment and swirling magic around her seemed to have no effect. Walking through this cold and treacherous corridor was as easy as strolling through a spring garden.
Soon, the Great Poet arrived at the grand hall on the sixth sublevel, standing before them unharmed.
The three Great Demons, who witnessed this scene, couldn't help but feel like they were looking at a monster.
Having just traveled this path twice, they knew all too well how terrifying the inverted Passage of the Afterlife illusion was.
Only disgustingly powerful individuals like the new King could traverse it as if it were an ordinary corridor.
"Why are you all staring at me like that?" The Great Poet asked, confused.
"It's nothing," Antanas waved his hand dismissively and turned serious, directing his gaze towards the stairs at the end of the great hall, where a deep purple, mirror-like void portal stood.
Its surface now shimmered with a watery luster; this resonance of the void teleportation gate only occurred after they had completed their task and obtained the clearance to pass through.
Beyond that gate lay their path back to the foundation level of Helrom Prison and the surface above.
"Just one more level to go." Sinora said, eyes closed and an alert expression on her face.
The closer they got to success and freedom, the more cautious she felt.
She feared that the happiness that was within reach would take a turn for the worse at the last moment.
Seemingly infected by this emotion, even the usually relaxed Antanas had his nerves taut for once.
In truth, the prison had seven levels: the aboveground foundation level and the six sublevels below ground. And on that foundation level stood the warden, Bakas.
"Though Warden Bakas is not an eighth-rank, he controls many privileges within Helrom Prison. This human is cunning and vicious, with extensive interrogation experience. We must not attract his attention," Pranai analyzed.
With their team currently composed entirely of demons, the inspection by Warden Bakas might not be easy to pass.
This was the final trial they would face today.
The Great Demons turned to the Great Poet, awaiting the King's orders.
"You three, don't be so nervous... Warden Bakas is at the Protoss Royal Magic Academy today, discussing a cooperation project. He's on official leave for the morning, so we can just walk out confidently." The Great Poet hesitated for a moment and spoke to the three of them with a slight apology in her tone.
Cardinal Lanchi seemed to find Warden Bakas quite reasonable and nothing to worry about; he had almost forgotten about the existence of the warden position in this Helrom Prison.
"Huh?"
The three Great Demons looked at the black-haired, green-eyed figure and asked in unison.
Turns out their vacation had already started!?
Antanas glanced at Huberian. He remembered that when he had seen her earlier on the fourth sub-level, she had looked a bit tense. But now, Huberian seemed as relaxed as a little animal enjoying snacks.
Antanas finally understood Huberian's feelings and the change in her attitude. Everything had gone too smoothly, and he felt like he had just boarded a baby bus.
"In a while, you three go back to your respective homes, rest, and get ready. Come find me at the Redmund Building on campus according to the map around 3:00 p.m. or so."
As Lanchi guided the three of them towards the void portal, she briefed Antanas, Sinora, and Pranai on the tasks they would undertake in Helrom, the imperial capital.
Specific details would have to wait until they left the prison.
As the five figures approached the teleportation gate, the deep purple light grew brighter, as if welcoming their arrival.
Finally, the demons crossed the threshold of the void portal together. The light enveloped them, and their figures disappeared one by one into the radiance, beginning their journey back to the surface.
When their vision cleared, they had passed through a brand new deep purple mirror and arrived in a spacious hall.
Their eyes beheld an intricate network of crystal pipes and magical machinery sprawling across the lofty walls, with occasional low echoes of distant mana operation.
These legacies of the Demon Realm civilization emitted an everlasting glow, telling a tale of power and destruction from ancient times to the present.
In the interplay of light and shadow, the foundation level of Helrom Prison slowly unveiled its ancient and heavy curtain.
The Great Demons gazed upon the interior, a fusion of Demon Realm style and Protoss imperial culture, feeling as if they had traveled through time.
Just as the New King had said, there was no sign of the warden on the foundation level.
Next was a nearly half-hour-long exit inspection and registration check.
After retrieving their stored documents and personal belongings, they successfully left the labyrinthine foundation level of Helrom Prison and entered the vibrant imperial capital of Helrom, filled with the scent of spring and bathed in sunshine.
The cityscape of Helrom still bore traces of its style from a hundred years ago, but everything was now completely different. Soaring skyscrapers and majestic architectural complexes stood in contrast, with bustling shops and cafes lining the streets, and people's faces radiant with the joy of life.
"Later, you don't need to keep wearing these intern prison guard uniforms. I took the liberty of choosing a few new outfits for you, something more formal. They're in the wardrobe back at the mansion. As for your preferred styles, you can explore the shops in Helrom over the next few days. The Protoss Royal Magic Academy is within walking distance of the commercial district."
The Great Poet led the three Great Demons towards the Protoss Royal Magic Academy while explaining.
The three demons nodded from time to time, slightly dazed.
It wasn't just because the sunshine they were seeing after a hundred years was too beautiful, but also because they felt like they had gained an extra mother who treated them like precious treasures, taking care of everything for them.
