Chapter 453: My Subordinates Aren't Weak
Chapter 453: My Subordinates Aren't Weak
When Kuro turned his head, the Navy members were momentarily startled, but their speed intensified as they recovered.
"Die!"
Two Navy attackers lunged—one from the upper left, dagger aimed at Kuro's head, and another from the lower right, targeting Kuro's lower back. The dagger from above slashed downward with a gruesome shout.
Kuro's expression suddenly turned calm. He moved his arm to grab the incoming blade.
Hiss!
"Ah!"
Suddenly, Lida cried out in pain as a dagger-wielding Navy sliced a shallow wound across his arm.
Boom!!!
A Killing Intent so dense it seemed to condense into blood surged from Kuro, slamming into the four Navy assailants.
The force of the Killing Intent froze the four mid-motion.
No one fainted.
Crack!
Kuro seized the wrist of the Navy attacker above him. The contact snapped him back to focus, but before he could react, his eyes locked onto a pair of blood-red irises. The gaze alone made one tremble involuntarily.
Snap!!
Kuro yanked hard, and a sickening crack echoed as the Navy's arm stretched slightly longer. Screaming, the attacker was hurled to the ground with a bone-jarring crash.
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
Simultaneously, three jagged earth spikes erupted from the ground, piercing the abdomens of the remaining three Navy members like skewered meat. The spikes lifted them high, impaling them.
"Are you bastards joking with this one?!"
Kuro roared explosively, stomping forward onto the fallen Navy's other arm. A crisp snap signaled the limb shattering under his boot.
The Navy writhed in agony, sweat drenching his face. As he tried to leap away, Kuro clenched his fist. The ground surged beneath him, forming elongated earthen bands that bound his body like ropes.
All of this unfolded in the span of a lightning spark.
"Lida, you alright?" Kuro asked.
"Fine."
Lida pressed his palm to his wounded arm. "Essence Feedback!"
The cut sealed rapidly under the essence's healing glow.
"Got careless... Kuro." Lida shook his now-healed arm, smirking at the Navy's horrified expression. "I didn’t even react in time."
"Don’t blame yourself—I let my guard down too."
Kuro narrowed his eyes. He’d grown complacent after purging Shabondy, letting his Observation Haki lapse. He’d been relaxed, like how Garp once got caught off-guard by Mongar’s axe.
Who the hell would’ve thought he’d face an assassination attempt here in Shabondy?!
Assassination!
This world actually had such underhanded tactics.
But maybe it made sense. This place was intertwined with the darkness world, after all. Naturally, it had 'assassins' as a profession.
Crocodile’s subordinate, Daz Bonez, had been a bounty hunter and part-time killer back in his day. But these attackers were different—specialized in assassination. Kuro hadn’t even detected their Killing Intent during their attack.
They weren’t weak.
"Good."
Confirming Lida was unharmed, Kuro looked down at the bound Navy member, pulling out a cigar. Lighting it, he exhaled a cloud of smoke that drifted into the assassin’s nose and mouth.
"Cough! Cough!"
The assassin thrashed, face reddening as he tried to shake off the smoke invading his lungs. His broken arms hung uselessly.
When his face turned purple, the smoke finally seeped out, dispersing into the air.
"Heh..."
The assassin gasped, drool and tears streaming. He’d been choked raw.
"I can keep you suffocating forever without letting you die", Kuro said coldly. "Talk, and I’ll grant you mercy."
"Hehehe..."
The assassin chuckled weakly. "We’re under Dragon Pie Crow, Northern Army Commander. Big Mom Pirates hired us to teach you a lesson—your subordinate Dougleg·Kas destroyed Snug’s mission. Even if you survived, we’ve already achieved half our goal. It’s pointless. You can’t stop us. Your subordinates Klah and Dougleg·Kas are already in hell."
"Dragon Pie Crow, Northern Army Commander? The Great Funeral Director?" Kuro arched a brow. "Isn’t that bastard supposed to be a human organ trafficker? Now he’s into assassination too?"
He clicked his tongue. Blood-red Observation Haki spread across the island. Fixing the assassin with a glare, he flicked his finger. The earthen bands tightened, sprouting thin spikes that pierced the assassin’s body.
"Arrgh!" The assassin writhed, blood dripping from his lips.
"You got one thing wrong", Kuro hissed. "My subordinates aren’t some stray cats and dogs that ordinary assassins can kill."
Roar!!!
A beast’s roar suddenly erupted from the Navy base.
"What?!"
The assassin who’d pierced Klah’s chest staggered backward, staring at the five-meter-tall werewolf emerging from the shadows.
Hiss!!!
The assassin’s shock froze on his face as a cold silver light flashed, tearing his body apart.
Klah retracted his claw, licking blood from his fingers. Eyes closed briefly, he reopened them, fixing the remaining killer with a chilling gaze.
"So that’s how it is... Hiding your aura, restraining Killing Intent. You’re assassins, huh? That’s why I didn’t notice." Klah bared his sharp fangs. "Impressive. If this were the past, I might’ve died."
"Monster..."
The assassin stepped back, throat bobbing.
The blood on Klah’s chest and waist had dried—no sign of wounds remained. Not unharmed, but his monstrous physique rendered the injuries meaningless.
"Die." Klah advanced, grinning grotesquely. "How should I kill you?!"
"End it."
Elsewhere, the assassin who’d kicked Kas into the ground stepped on his head, pulling out a silenced pistol. "Sayonara."
"Tenfold!"
A roar erupted from the crater as the assassin fired.
A burst of blood exploded from his back.
"Fishman Karate!"
The figure vanished from the ground, reappearing behind the assassin.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
Blood sprayed as the assassin collapsed, eyes rolled back.
Kas stood straight, blood trickling from his mouth. He pointed his bloodied finger upward, toward the rooftop. "I’m destined to become Kuro’s Mr. Shield! I won’t fall here! Justice won’t bow to wickedness, nor yield to unorthodox methods! Despicable coward, face me upright!"
