Chapter 453: Loren Really Seems Troubled
Chapter 453: Loren Really Seems Troubled
Within the grand hall of the Minus Sixth Layer's transportation hub, Shubelly alone sat at a table, her posture relaxed and casual. On the table before her lay a bag of sunflower seeds and a bottle of Snowfield Spirits. She seemed to be passing the time, idly shelling the seeds and occasionally taking a sip from the bottle.
To an ordinary person, the potent Snowfield Spirits would have been akin to poison, but Shubelly drank it as if it were fruit juice, unaffected by its strength. Initially, she had wanted to taste-test the liquor, curious about its flavor. But aside from a slight burn and a sting in the nose, it tasted like nothing more than sweetened water.
If only she had known, she could have spared Ranch the trouble and come here with Ton, the warden, instead.
The magnificent chandelier hanging from the arched ceiling illuminated the hall, casting a warm glow over Shubelly. Thus far, this moment of tranquility seemed to be the most enjoyable part of her trip to the Protoss Empire.
Unconcerned by the grandeur of her surroundings, Shubelly focused on the simple task at hand. The mission had been so straightforward and uneventful that she didn't even feel the usual excitement that came with a job well done.
She gently blew the sunflower seed shells from her hand, her gaze drifting aimlessly into the distance. Suddenly, her eyes fixed on three figures appearing in the corridor.
Shubelly paused, setting down the seeds and liquor as her expression turned serious. As the figures drew closer, she recognized them as Antanas, Sinora, and the male cleric—the last of whom was their target, the Great Demon, Verity of Prajna.
"You're back," she said, setting aside her snacks and rising to her feet. Their return came as no surprise, and she had even been expecting them. After all, Ranch, controlling the Great Lover, would naturally move slower than the others.
Moreover, while ordinary beings would rush through this layer at top speed, only Ranch would stroll leisurely.
Shubelly approached the three figures who had successfully reached the Minus Sixth Layer's transportation hub. Among the Great Demons, Guardian Antanas and Lawbreaker Sinora had only minor wounds on their faces, which quickly healed before her eyes. But it was Verity of Prajna who appeared to have sustained the most severe injuries.
"You did remarkably well, brother," Sinora said, surprised that Prajna hadn't been beaten half to death by the Hanging Road of the Afterlife. Evidently, the new king had instilled great determination in him.
"For me now, death may not be so terrifying, but failing to meet the new king's expectations is," Prajna acknowledged gravely, making no attempt to hide his disheveled state.
"?"
Shubelly's eyelids twitched as she listened to their conversation. How had another die-hard fan of Ranch appeared in such a short time?
The next moment, Prajna noticed Shubelly, also dressed as an intern prison guard, in the transportation hall. He hadn't expected to find another person waiting for them. However, since she was with his companions, she was likely not an ordinary being, and their group for this Hellrom Prison mission must have been an all-demon team.
Noticing Prajna's gaze, Shubelly wanted to speak, but the words caught in her throat, and she could only hold back her tears. She dared not reveal herself as human, afraid of being seen as an enemy by the Great Demons.
"She's our second princess and the new king's closest confidante," Antanas said, hooking her arm through Shubelly's and introducing her to Prajna like a senior member of their team. After all, she had been the first to join.
"Forgive me, I am Prajna, always ready to serve Your Highness."
Prajna bowed towards Shubelly, understanding the meaning behind the second princess's words. Not only was she the daughter of Princess Iftiya, but she was also the new Demon King's beloved sibling.
"Mr. Prajna, there's no need for that. It's wonderful that you were able to escape," Shubelly said, waving her hands in a fluster.
The eight-ranked Great Demon was being so courteous to her that she felt completely lost! After all, her teacher, the Ice Snow Witch, was also an eight-ranked Great Demon.
Why would her teacher say that Prajna of Truth was an extremely dangerous demon...
Shubelly felt that both Sinora and Prajna seemed rather amiable...
In the high-latitude observation space, the Ice Snow Witch watched the scene below with a bewildered expression.
Was Prajna of Truth this easy to talk to? If it had been her approaching Prajna, she would have had to endure an eight-ranked spell from him first before even attempting to communicate.
Could it be that he was treating Shubelly so well just because he learned of her identity as the descendant of a princess?
Also, what was the relationship between the new Demon King and Shubelly, his 'closest kin'? The Ice Snow Witch had been observing Shubelly the entire time.
The perspective of the God's Eye could only be on the God's Hand, and since Shubelly had remained outside the cell in the Minus Fifth and Sixth Layers, the Ice Snow Witch was unaware of the specifics of what had transpired between Sinora, Prajna, and Shubelly within the cell.
There was no way that Shubelly's human companions could have made two Great Demons submit to them in such a short time, unless... Talia had been plotting the demon tribe's restoration in the South Continent for a long while.
The new Demon King must be referring to Talia.
As these thoughts raced through her mind, the Ice Snow Witch's brows furrowed deeper.
She felt that many clues seemed to be connecting.
Duke Migaya of the Hutton Kingdom had married the previous Second Princess, Iftiya, and their daughter had later become close friends with Lanchi at the Ikelite Academy. Years later, the former Long Princess, Talia, had also come to Ikelite, and there were suspicions of her pursuing a younger man, with her relationship with Lanchi being somewhat entangled. Perhaps Talia had tacitly allowed Lanchi to act as her proxy in planning the restoration of the Demon Tribe, and going back to the beginning, Duke Migaya was Loren's long-time friend.
Loren seemed to have no direct connection to any core members of the Demon Tribe, but anyone associated with the core members of the Demon Tribe must be connected to Loren! The more she thought about it, the more the Great Cardinal seemed like the mastermind behind the scenes.
What was truly despair-inducing was that as the turmoil between the Northern and Southern Continents was coming to an end, and just as the truth was about to be uncovered, and everyone was welcoming the hope of a new dawn, Loren revealed a cryptic smile and informed everyone that he had been the one pulling the strings all along.
The Ice Snow Witch clenched her fists.
All that was missing now was substantive evidence to incriminate Loren. For instance, if a mysterious figure resembling Loren were to appear at the Protoss Empire's bishop election in three days and secretly aid the Resurrection Church, then she would have to call upon the Chief Justice and assemble a task force to head to the South Continent to thoroughly investigate the Great Cardinal Loren's daily life in Ikelite!
On the other side, Loren had already buried his head in his hands.
He could no longer understand what was going on in the depths of Hellrom Prison.
All he could think about was that his tribulations should be coming to an end soon.
