Chapter 451: Nicolas Flamel's Letter and the Six Horcruxes!
Chapter 451: Nicolas Flamel's Letter and the Six Horcruxes!
Upon learning that the Order of Merlin was still considering his nomination, Ivan couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed.
However, since they hadn't outright rejected it, it meant that there was still a good chance. He figured that once the matter with Peter Pettigrew was settled, his Order of Merlin would be within reach.
Just as Ivan was thinking this, he was surprised to see Dumbledore hand him another letter.
Confused, Ivan wondered if someone had brought up some other issue about him. Or perhaps some jerk had written a complaint letter?
Several possibilities flashed through Ivan's mind as he picked up the Envelope and noticed the sender's signature at the bottom.
"Nicolas Flamel?" Ivan read the golden letters at the end of the Envelope, then looked up at Dumbledore in surprise.
Of course, he knew who Nicolas Flamel was, but that was precisely why he found it hard to believe. He had no connection with the world-renowned alchemy master, so why would he send him a letter?
"Do you remember the Time-Turner you broke?" Dumbledore asked.
Ivan nodded, recalling his earlier guess. "Did Mr. Flamel fix it?"
"Exactly! I specifically sought out my old friend Nicolas for help", Dumbledore nodded, then smiled and continued, "The extent of the damage you caused to the Time-Turner surprised him quite a bit."
Ivan scratched his head awkwardly. The Time-Turner was damaged so severely because of the system's power, but the system's existence was an absolute secret, so he would have to take the blame.
"So, we talked a lot about you. When he learned that you have a talent for alchemy, my old friend has been eager to meet you. If you're willing to meet him, of course!" Dumbledore's blue eyes, visible through his half-moon glasses, fixed on Ivan, waiting for his response.
"Of course! I would be honored!" Ivan was overjoyed and agreed without hesitation.
He had been worried about his alchemy skills hitting a bottleneck and not improving without a teacher. Now, with Nicolas Flamel wanting to meet him, it was like a pillow being offered to someone who was falling asleep.
"So, when can we go to meet my teacher?" Ivan eagerly asked.
The speed at which Ivan changed his words surprised Dumbledore. He hadn't even mentioned Nicolas planning to take him as a student.
Dumbledore shook his head in resignation, "Not now, Hals! You still need to complete your studies during this period, so we'll have to wait until the summer. It will be a fairly long trip, and you need to convince your mother and make the necessary preparations."
Ivan calmed down. Although he felt that his current magical abilities made third-year classes somewhat redundant, considering his academic performance, he had to be patient and wait until the summer.
Dumbledore observed Ivan's reaction and nodded to himself. He had expected Ivan to be more anxious, but the boy proved to be more patient than he had anticipated.
"In any case, the rest of the details are in the letter Nicolas wrote to you. If there's nothing else, you can go back now", Dumbledore waved his hand and said.
"Then I won't disturb you, Professor!" Ivan placed the Elder Wand on the table, then thought for a moment and took out the Time-Turner as well.
This Time-Turner ultimately belongs to the Ministry of Magic, so there's no need for him to keep it and risk upsetting Dumbledore.
Since Nicolas Flamel was able to repair this Time-Turner, he likely knows the method of creating such an item.
When he deliberately called Nicolas Flamel "teacher", Dumbledore did not object, indicating that Nicolas Flamel might have come to meet him with the intention of taking him as a disciple.
As he thought, Ivan walked out of the Headmaster's Office.
Dumbledore glanced at the items Ivan had left on the desk and watched as Ivan's figure disappeared from the Headmaster's Office.
With the rumbling sound of the door closing, the Headmaster's Office once again fell into silence.
Dumbledore remained silent for a moment, then his hand lightly swept over the desk. A diary with several holes in the middle appeared, along with a faded crown.
"The third one!" Dumbledore murmured, extending his other hand, which had been hidden in his sleeve.
Oddly, this hand was charred black, emitting a faint black mist, and on his thumb was a ring set with a black gemstone.
Dumbledore reached out to remove the ring and placed it next to the crown, staring at the three objects in deep thought.
Ever since last year when Ivan destroyed the diary and the crown, he had realized the secret of Voldemort's immortality—the creation of Horcruxes!
Since two of these items had already appeared, there was a high likelihood that there were a third, a fourth, or even more!
When he realized this, Dumbledore couldn't help but feel a chill.
Splitting a complete soul is not an easy task, so the creation of Horcruxes is exceptionally evil, requiring the use of murder and other dark methods to shatter one's soul and then extract a part of it to be sealed in an object.
After the soul is split, it becomes extremely unstable. Creating multiple Horcruxes not only involves enduring the pain of multiple soul splits but also affects the creator's emotions.
One could say that Voldemort had become nearly mad in his quest to avoid death, leading him to do such a thing.
Dumbledore muttered to himself, a mix of pity and reflection in his voice. However, multiple Horcruxes also meant that Voldemort would be difficult to kill completely.
After all, as long as one Horcrux remained, no matter what kind of blow Tom suffered, he could still cling to life!
Fortunately, the two Horcruxes Voldemort had chosen gave him some clues, making his search for the remaining Horcruxes much easier!
The crown of Rowena Ravenclaw was one of the relics left by the four founders, and the diary recorded Tom's life as a student.
Since Tom chose these two items as Horcruxes, it suggested that the other Horcruxes were likely not chosen at random but were valuable or had significant meaning.
Besides the Gryffindor sword, Dumbledore suspected that the other relics were probably also made into Horcruxes.
He hadn't forgotten that Tom had once returned to Hogwarts, applying for the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. At the time, he found it somewhat surprising, but now he realized that Tom was likely coveting the Gryffindor sword and using the opportunity to hide the Ravenclaw crown.
"If that's the case, there would be at least five Horcruxes." Dumbledore closed his eyes and pondered for a moment, muttering to himself.
Then, as if struck by a sudden thought, Dumbledore opened his eyes, his bright blue eyes gleaming with an indescribable light, and he trembled as he said,
"No, perhaps six!"
