Chapter 450: The Future That Lies Ahead
Chapter 450: The Future That Lies Ahead
East Blue.
On a certain stretch of the sea.
Five large warships from the Navy headquarters were sailing at full speed.
In the spacious office of one of the ships, Garp was sitting behind a desk, holding a newspaper in one hand while casually tossing food into his mouth with the other.
A moment later, he tossed the newspaper onto the desk and turned to a Navy Rear Admiral in the room, demanding, "Still no contact with Aokiji?!"
The incident involving Golden Lion had gone too far, and it was past time to take action. To deal with someone of his caliber, either a Navy Admiral had to be dispatched or Garp himself, the Navy hero, would need to step in.
As he had been planning to return to East Blue to visit his grandson, Luffy, and guide him in his training, Garp took on the task.
"I apologize, Mr. Garp. It seems Vice Admiral Aokiji's Den Den Mushi has perished, as we have been unable to establish contact..."
The Rear Admiral in the office quickly responded, "...However, Vice Admiral Aokiji's signal Den Den Mushi should be in place, and we are heading directly toward the source of the signal without deviating from our course."
"Ah... If the signal Den Den Mushi's location is confirmed, then increase to maximum speed!"
Garp dug his pinky finger into his nostril and said, "I need to get back to my home sooner to see my grandson."
"Yes, sir!"
The Rear Admiral acknowledged and immediately relayed the order. The warship's power and speed were increased to their maximum, racing through the waters.
Garp clenched one hand into a fist and propped his chin on it as he gazed out the porthole at the vast ocean, muttering, "Really, he's an old fogey from another era. What's he trying to accomplish by jumping back into the fray?"
"By forcibly swimming against the current of time, your final outcome will likely be a tragic one, Golden Lion..."
Just as Garp was musing aloud, the Den Den Mushi on his desk suddenly rang.
Garp immediately turned back, his eyes fixing on the Den Den Mushi. He snatched up the receiver and answered the call.
"Hello? It's Garp."
"We've finally re-established contact, Mr. Garp. This is Aokiji, currently at the 117th Branch Base in the East Blue."
"Oh, have you pinpointed Golden Lion's location? Have there been any unforeseen circumstances? I'm rushing toward the direction of the signal transmitted by the Den Den Mushi."
Now that he was back in touch with Aokiji, Garp's eyebrows relaxed slightly as he lifted the teacup on his desk toward his lips.
While he wasn't overly concerned about Aokiji, given his strength, even if he ended up fighting Golden Lion, escaping unscathed was unlikely to be an issue.
With contact re-established, he could resolve the Golden Lion issue sooner and return to see Luffy.
"Ah... An unforeseen event did occur."
Aokiji's voice came through the Den Den Mushi, "All members of the Flying Pirates, except for Golden Lion, have been arrested and are temporarily detained at the branch..."
Garp paused, the teacup halfway to his mouth, and exclaimed in surprise, "Then what of Golden Lion?"
Aokiji replied from the other end of the line, "Golden Lion was taken out by the Voyager."
Pffft! Garp sputtered, spraying half-drunk tea back into his cup.
His eyes widened as he set down the cup, asking incredulously, "How did that guy end up in the East Blue as well?!"
"He mentioned he's here on a journey... As long as we don't provoke him, there shouldn't be any major issues."
Aokiji continued, "The World Government previously implied that we should avoid provoking the Voyager..."
"Yes, that was the message."
Garp wiped the corner of his mouth and snorted, "The World Government, no... The Celestial Dragons felt the pain and have been in constant fear of his power. But he truly isn't human, is he?
Chapter 450: The Future That Lies Ahead (continued)
"What about the rest...?" Qing Shi asked.
Calming himself, Garp replied, "I'll have the warships head your way. You have full authority over how to deal with the Flying Pirates. As for me, I'm heading home to see Luffy."
"Very well." Qing Shi acknowledged with a single word before hanging up the Den Den Mushi.
Garp put down the receiver and looked up at the ceiling. After a moment's pause, he let out a sound that could have been either a sigh or a scoff. He then poured the tea from his cup out the window and refilled it.
Regardless, he was preparing for his retirement. From now on, he wouldn't concern himself too much with matters on the high seas; instead, he would leave the worrying to others.
...
Somewhere on the vast ocean, the Ohara sailed calmly.
On its spacious deck, Feng Ye and Robin lay out in the sun, both wearing simple swimsuits as they relaxed. Robin lay on a cool bamboo mat, reading a book with her chin propped up by her hands. Occasionally, dancing flower petals would gather to form another hand, turning the pages for her.
"After getting used to the climate in the Grand Line, coming to the Blue Seas is certainly a pleasant change," Robin commented casually as she put down her book and turned to Feng Ye, a gentle smile on her face. "The weather here is so much better."
The climate in the Grand Line was far harsher than in the Blue Seas, especially in the New World, where good weather was a rare occurrence. It was usually either scorching sun, violent storms, hail, or tsunamis.
Robin felt that Feng Ye's decision to come to the Blue Seas was a good one.
"Hmm..." Feng Ye lay there, his head resting on a cool water bag as he gazed up at the azure sky, his response lazy.
Robin tilted her head, observing Feng Ye's state, and asked, "What are you thinking about, Mr. Feng Ye?"
"The sun," he replied.
"The sun?" Robin turned her head in curiosity to glance at the sky, but the sun's glare was too much, and she quickly averted her eyes.
Feng Ye, however, stared deeply at the blazing sun.
It was vastly larger than any of the planets, its mass almost comically disproportionate. Even if you combined hundreds of worlds like the One Piece universe and the Naruto universe, they would barely make a ripple in the sun's vastness.
He wondered how one could possibly bridge the enormous gap and attain a power comparable to that of the sun.
The power he had gained from the Naruto world probably wasn't enough. Even if he cultivated the Divine Tree there for thousands of years, the amount of chakra he could gather would only increase his strength by a few times at most.
As for the world-hopping ability of the Phantom Clock, he still hadn't figured out how it worked, so he couldn't be sure what kind of world he would end up in next.
His jump from the Naruto world had granted him power far beyond that world, making it a relatively easy and enjoyable transition. But the next one might not be so simple.
Thus, Feng Ye wasn't in a hurry to leave.
He intended to stay in this world a bit longer, at least until he could further increase his strength and continue gathering Time-related Devil Fruits, hoping to unlock the sixth notch of the Phantom Clock soon.
If the sixth notch truly granted the ability to travel freely through the past and future, it would be a tremendous boost to his power.
While his pure strength might not change much, his rule-based abilities would reach a level that could be considered a bug.
"Speaking of which..." Feng Ye murmured to himself, "...the world-hopping ability of the Phantom Clock doesn't seem to be a simple spatial jump, does it?"
