Chapter 450: The Clever Fudge
Chapter 450: The Clever Fudge
As the group passed through the archway and returned to the outer cave, the morning sun had already risen.
The morning sunlight dispelled the cold and darkness, shining on the lake's surface, creating a golden ripple.
A group of seagulls perched on the rocks not far away, curiously examining the Fawkes on Kyle's shoulder. But as Kreacher began to wail again, they were all scared off.
The group waited outside for ten minutes, and finally, Dumbledore, who was in charge of the aftermath, emerged.
He didn't explain what he had done during those ten minutes, and no one else asked.
"I need to take Regulus away," he said. "Severus should have a way to restore him to human form, rather than leaving him like this."
"I'll go too!" Sirius immediately said.
Although he and Snape didn't get along, he was willing to take the risk for Regulus.
At worst, he wouldn't respond to Snape's taunts.
"I think it's better if you don't go," Dumbledore looked at him, hesitating.
He felt that if Sirius went, Snape probably wouldn't even open the door for them.
"Um..." Sirius understood his intention and couldn't help but mutter, "Can't we send someone else, like Madam Pomfrey?"
"No," Dumbledore shook his head. "She's better at treating living people."
"Then... alright." Sirius sighed, bowed deeply to Dumbledore, and said, "Please take care of Regulus."
Then he turned to Kreacher, who was crying incessantly beside him, and said, "You go with Professor Dumbledore to see that person. If you need anything, let me know immediately.
Also, during this time, no matter how harsh his words are, even if he insults Regulus, you must pretend you didn't hear it. This is an order!"
This time, Dumbledore didn't object. If he was just following a house-elf, he believed Snape wouldn't mind.
Before leaving, he looked at Kyle, who seemed like he wanted to ask something, but in the end, he shook his head and said nothing.
"Boom!"
Fawkes took them away, disappearing in a burst of fire.
After they left, Sirius sat on a rock, looking up at the sky with an unprecedented relaxed expression on his face.
"I'm a little afraid to go back."
He joked to Kyle, "I'm sure that as soon as I return, Lupin will beat me up.
Although I don't want to admit it, but right now, I really can't beat him, whether I use my wand or not."
"It's normal for you to get beaten if you insisted on coming," Kyle walked to his side. "Moreover, he's right. If it weren't for Professor Dumbledore, the person we need to find would probably become two.
And I'm sure Snape would be more than happy to brew potions for you."
"Yes, if that were the case, he would be very happy."
Sirius lay on the rock and suddenly said, "Thank you."
"What?"
"Because of me, you lost something that could save your life," Sirius said. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"
"Fawkes likes to eat herbs," Kyle said softly.
"I understand," Sirius chuckled. "Leave it to me."
He stood up from the rock, "It's getting late. I'll take you back."
"It's fine," Kyle waved his hand. "I can go back by myself. You don't need to send me off."
"So, you're not planning to come back to Grimmauld Place 12 with me?"
Sirius's expression stiffened. He was still thinking of asking Kyle for help in mediating the fight. Perhaps, out of respect for a former student, Lupin might let him off the hook.
Otherwise, he would surely be beaten to death.
"Of course, I've been out all night, so I should definitely go home first... See you next time."
Kyle didn't pay attention to Sirius's increasingly gloomy expression and left after finishing his sentence with a simple apparition.
Sirius stared at the empty cave, feeling so upset that he was almost in tears. In a daze, he had already anticipated his fate.
Really, how could Kyle have Apparated away? He... wait...
Sirius suddenly froze.
Kyle, a student who hadn't even reached his fifth year, had Apparated?
On the other side, after returning to Hogsmeade Village, Kyle had just entered the door when he saw Chris and Diana having breakfast.
Both were surprised to see Kyle back so early.
"Why are you back so early? Was it uncomfortable staying at Sirius's place?"
They already knew about Sirius and Peter's situation, and last night, when Kyle was going to Grimmauld Place 12, he had also written a letter saying he would stay there for the night.
The flawless version is available at Book Bar 69! Book 6 = 9 + Book Bar's first release of this novel.
"No," Kyle shook his head and sat down next to them. "It's just that his house might not be peaceful soon, and I was afraid of being implicated if I stayed there, so I came back early."
After a busy night, Kyle was already hungry, and he couldn't help but grab a piece of toast and stuff it into his mouth.
Diana added some fried eggs and grilled sausages for him.
It wasn't until Kyle had finished eating that she spoke up, "What happened? Didn't you say Sirius was wrongfully accused?"
"It's unrelated to that," Kyle explained. "Sirius did something that made Lupin very angry. He's definitely going to get beaten up, and I felt awkward just watching it happen there."
The two nodded, and they didn't ask further, as if it were a normal, not uncommon occurrence.
"They're always messing around like that," Diana said with a smile. "Especially after Remus became a prefect, he often got so angry that he went crazy."
"Actually, my initial impression of him wasn't that great," Chris added. "But after hearing that Sirius betrayed Potter, I still found it hard to believe... Everyone knows it's impossible. Their relationship was as close as Fred and George's, always inseparable."
"But it turned out to be true," Chris finished.
"Right, Dad," Kyle asked. "When does Sirius's trial start?"
"I don't know," Chris shook his head. "I was going to ask you, does Fudge really know about this?"
"Of course," Kyle said. "I was in the Headmaster's office at the time, and I heard it very clearly. He seemed very eager to help Sirius overturn the case."
"Then why hasn't the Ministry received any news?" Chris was a bit puzzled.
"What's so strange about that?" Diana said from the side. "Don't forget what's happening in August."
"The Quidditch World Cup!" Chris suddenly realized.
The Quidditch World Cup had always been under Crouch's responsibility, and if this tournament was exciting enough, his reputation would reach an unprecedented height.
Fudge probably wanted to wait until that time to bring up Sirius's matter.
Without a trial, imprisoning an innocent person for twelve years was a mistake that could ruin Crouch's long-accumulated reputation in an instant.
"Heh..." Chris couldn't help but laugh.
Fudge's move was truly brilliant, almost permanently solving the possibility of Crouch being replaced.
The three chatted for a while longer, and Chris and Diana prepared to go to the Ministry of Magic.
"So early?" Kyle glanced at the time. "There are still two hours until the Ministry's regular working hours."
"It's been like this recently, with two big events to prepare for. The Ministry is too busy, oh, and by the way," Chris said as he stepped out of the door, then suddenly turned back and said to Kyle with a mysterious expression, "You'd better read more books and practice some spells... It might help you."
