Chapter 45: Intelligence
Chapter 45: Intelligence
September 25, 2017
Lu Hai Kong finally left Wang LaoTou, feeling the pain of spending 10 gold to purchase two 'Bandit Chief' occupation certificates.
Upon his return, Lu Hai Kong immediately summoned Zhang Feng and Li Yi, two of his men.
After receiving Lu Hai Kong's call, these two guys rushed over, grinning so hard that their noses were about to drip.
The reason for this was that Lu Hai Kong had kept them waiting for too long, and since they weren't 'Bandit Chiefs', they couldn't leave the bandit camp without Lu Hai Kong's leadership. For them, the camp was like a prison.
So, these two eagerly sought Lu Hai Kong's favor, hoping to latch onto his success and escape the prisoner-like life they had been living.
They had fantasized about becoming Bandit Chiefs under Lu Hai Kong, but they knew it was just a dream. An occupation certificate cost 5 gold, so how could Lu Hai Kong give it to them so easily?
With this realization, when they saw Lu Hai Kong casually handing out two occupation certificates, they were overjoyed.
Taking the certificates from Lu Hai Kong, they swore to heaven that they would be loyal to Lu Hai Kong, even to the point of dying for him. In reality, Lu Hai Kong wouldn't have been so generous with the certificates if he didn't need more men.
Lu Hai Kong, being the man he was, had given them something worth 5 gold, so he naturally wanted to extract more than 5 gold worth of value from them. That night, Lu Hai Kong assigned them a task, gave each of them two gold for expenses, and sent them on their way.
The night passed uneventfully, and early the next morning, Lu Hai Kong, along with Dynasty, Ma Han, and his own bandits, descended from the mountain. Zhang Feng and Li Yi, the two men assigned tasks, accompanied them.
The levels of Lu Hai Kong's bandits hadn't peaked yet, and their strength couldn't improve significantly in a short time. Since they were preparing to deal with the raiders, the stronger his forces, the better.
As the 'Refugee Camp' hadn't respawned yet, Lu Hai Kong could only find a nearby bandit camp. However, Lu Hai Kong didn't have to conquer the camp; he just wanted to train his troops and see what the 'Combat Mode' bandit camp was like. This decision would soon cause Lu Hai Kong a lot of trouble.
The bandits in 'Combat Mode' seemed to have gained intelligence, acting extremely cowardly and cunning.
The first few waves outside the camp were manageable, with the bandits hiding and refusing to come out, instead calling for reinforcements.
Although this was troublesome, it wasn't difficult to handle. Lu Hai Kong and his troops directly charged and eliminated the bandits in their hiding places, and the reinforcements they called were even easier to deal with. The bandits coming from the mountain path were easily crushed by Lu Hai Kong's forces, as his men were a level higher than the average bandit.
The first few waves were easily defeated, but the last few waves caused trouble. The bandits started to combine forces and ambushed Lu Hai Kong's group, which was completely unexpected. Fortunately, Lu Hai Kong's men were a level higher, and with Lu Hai Kong's strong leadership, they managed to avoid any casualties during the ambush, although a few unlucky ones were injured.
After fighting to this point, Lu Hai Kong realized that his current strength was still insufficient to take down a bandit camp. So, after clearing out the external forces of the camp, Lu Hai Kong decided to call it a day and retreat with the spoils of war.
Lu Hai Kong then led his men to invade another bandit camp. For the entire day, Lu Hai Kong and his men wreaked havoc on the outer forces of various camps. In just one day, they managed to cause trouble for the outer forces of five different camps.
However, these external forces didn't yield much in terms of material gains. After raiding several camps, they only managed to acquire one gold coin. If Lu Hai Kong had hoped to get rich from this, he would have starved long ago. Nonetheless, his men's skills improved significantly through these intense battles.
The levels of Wang Chao and Ma Han, both 'Bandit Chiefs', reached the same level as Lu Hai Kong, maxing out their attributes and gaining two points in all attributes. Their specialized skills also improved to varying degrees, especially Ma Han's 'Gale Blade Technique', which reached level 2 in just one day. When unleashed with full force, it resembled the prowess of the 'Bandit Chief' Zhang San, whom Lu Hai Kong had encountered before, which brought Lu Hai Kong great satisfaction.
Lu Hai Kong's 'Bandit Infantry' had mostly reached level 4, while the 'Bandit Archers' were a bit slower at level 3. However, at this rate, it would only take two to three days for Lu Hai Kong's entire force to reach level 5.
Overall, it was a fruitful day, and Lu Hai Kong didn't waste his time.
After dealing with the fifth camp's external forces, Lu Hai Kong led his men back to rest and recuperate. After a full day of fighting, many of them were wounded and had little combat effectiveness left.
Upon returning to their camp, Lu Hai Kong took his men to the mess hall, intending to treat them to a feast to soothe their fatigue.
When Lu Hai Kong arrived at the mess hall, Li Yi, whom he had sent out earlier in the morning, had already returned and was waiting for him. Having lived in the camp for nearly half a month, Li Yi understood Lu Hai Kong's temperament well and knew that he would come here first upon his return. So, he had been waiting for Lu Hai Kong all this time.
As soon as Lu Hai Kong approached, Li Yi hurriedly greeted him, eagerly attending to Lu Hai Kong's needs. At the same time, he promptly reported the information he had gathered for Lu Hai Kong.
The information Li Yi brought back was quite detailed, and he had collected the data Lu Hai Kong wanted in just one day. However, the news Li Yi brought was not good for Lu Hai Kong.
It seemed that Shanwu County had long turned a blind eye to the 'Dark Wind Fort', a notorious criminal force. They lacked the determination to eradicate this evil power and even seemed afraid of provoking them to cause trouble in the county.
Upon learning this, Lu Hai Kong's eyes narrowed instantly.
