Chapter 45: Gardening and Professor Orion
Chapter 45: Gardening and Professor Orion
Kyle was like a child who had found his favorite toy as he played to his heart's content in the Wish Fulfillment Room.
With a light flick of his finger, the rain instantly turned into a blizzard, and with another flick, it became hail the size of eggs.
Honestly, the feeling of being able to change the environment with a simple hand gesture was incredibly exhilarating.
After indulging for a while, Kyle suddenly remembered that he had important matters to attend to. Reluctantly, he changed the room back to a sunny day.
Oh well, there would be plenty of time for this later.
Kyle crouched down and carefully took out two seeds, no bigger than peas, from his pocket, afraid that he might accidentally crush them.
These seeds were extremely precious, and they weren't even his; he had picked them up... from the Herbology class.
Yes, he had picked them up.
As it happened, during the previous Herbology class, a Gryffindor wizard had successfully answered Professor Sprout's question and, in his excitement, had accidentally flung his shovel onto the Man-Eating Kale across the room.
As expected, the shovel was instantly chewed into a pile of scrap metal by the Man-Eating Kale, and the young wizard was deducted a point for it.
The incident would have ended there, but Kyle had inadvertently noticed that after spitting out the remains of the shovel, the Man-Eating Kale had spat out two seeds a short while later.
Professor Sprout had been busy looking for a new shovel at that moment and hadn't seen this happen.
As an exemplary Hufflepuff, Kyle naturally wanted to help his Headmaster with her troubles, so he took the initiative to pick up the seeds.
However, he later forgot about it due to his obsession with Herbaceous White Hellebore.
Kyle dug two suitable holes in the ground, placed the seeds inside, and covered them with a thin layer of soil.
After completing this task, Kyle nodded in satisfaction.
"Very good, I'll keep them safe for now and bring them to Professor Sprout during our next class."
...
After leaving the Wish Fulfillment Room, Kyle returned to the Common Room. In the afternoon, he went to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom with the new Hufflepuffs.
On the way, everyone was excited, whether it was because they were looking forward to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class or simply out of curiosity about the legendary Professor Lupin.
Perhaps it was both.
The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom was on the second floor.
When they pushed open the door and entered, they found that the tables, which were usually neatly arranged, had been moved to the side, making the room appear spacious.
Professor Orion had already arrived and was standing behind the podium, fiddling with a covered cage.
Kyle was surprised to see this scene, not expecting that their Defense Against the Dark Arts professor would also be a practical teacher like Professor Lupin.
"Good afternoon, everyone."
Once everyone was present, Professor Orion looked at them all with a gentle expression and said, "Put your books away, we won't be needing them, not just for this class but for every class from now on."
With just one sentence, Professor Orion had won the hearts of many young wizards.
What could be more delightful than not having to bring books to class? If there was anything better, it would be not having to bring books to any class at all.
Fortunately, Professor Orion had achieved both.
"This professor must be truly skilled," a young wizard immediately remarked. "He'll surely be re-elected!"
"I appreciate your kind words, Mr. Borg, but I can't give Gryffindor extra points just for that."
Professor Orion smiled and continued, "In my opinion, theoretical knowledge is always the easiest part of this subject. You can learn it on your own; there's no need to waste precious class time on it."
During class, I prefer to teach you how to protect yourselves when facing danger.
This danger could come from unknown dark magic or some dangerous magical creatures. But either way, they could take your lives."
Seeing the tense atmosphere around, Professor Orion continued, "However, for your age, it's too early to come into contact with dark magic, and the Headmaster wouldn't allow me to do this either.
So let's start with something simple—magical creatures."
After speaking, Professor Orion gently pushed the cage, and a dull buzzing sound immediately came from inside. The cage cover shook left and right, as if it might fall off at any moment.
Some of the young wizards standing closer to the front were scared and retreated.
"Don't worry," Professor Orion said seriously. "Although this little guy is dangerous, as long as I'm here, you won't be harmed. I only ask that you remain calm and remember every word I say."

After speaking, Professor Orion lifted the cover, revealing what was inside the cage.
...A blue insect, barely an inch in size, was the source of the buzzing sound. But unlike other insects, its wings were on top of its head, and when it flew, it looked like it was wearing a bamboo dragonfly, while its body also spun around.
It looked quite cute.
Katie Bell couldn't help but snicker, "Professor, it doesn't seem as dangerous as you said..."
In her opinion, Professor Orion's earlier words were clearly exaggerated. Such a tiny creature, she thought, she could even swat it with her wand, how could it be dangerous?
"Is that so? I hope you can still be this confident, Miss Bell," Professor Orion smiled slightly and asked, "So, who knows what it is? The first one to answer can earn five points for their house."
In the crowd, Michael suddenly heard a faint voice, as if someone whispered a name."
Tempted by the offer of extra points, he blurted out without thinking, "Billywig!"
"Excellent, Mr. Michael," Professor Orion said happily. "Hufflepuff gets five points!"
"That's right, Billywig, a XXX-level magical creature," Professor Orion explained. "Everyone, notice that it has a long stinger at the bottom of its body. Anyone stung by a Billywig will feel dizzy and lightheaded, and then they'll float uncontrollably in the air.
If stung multiple times, they might even remain floating in mid-air for several days, unable to control themselves."
Professor Orion turned his gaze to Katie Bell, "Now, do you still think it's not dangerous?"
Katie Bell turned her head away without speaking. However, from her expression, she didn't seem convinced.
"Professor..." At this moment, a young wizard eagerly asked, "So, is this creature what we're dealing with in this lesson?"
"Not exactly," Professor Orion shook his head. "Before that, you'll first learn the spell to handle it. Only after I'm sure there's no problem will we proceed with the practical exercise."
