Chapter 45: Endless Worlds, Endless Exploration
Chapter 45: Endless Worlds, Endless Exploration
After advancing his class to Wizard Apprentice, Luo En gained an unusually clear awareness of the mana flowing within his body.
While intimately connected, mana and spiritual energy were two completely distinct forces. Spiritual energy primarily constructed and maintained spell models, whereas mana served as the actual fuel driving spell effects.
Opening his attribute interface, he reaffirmed his current state:
【Luo En Lalf】
【Age: 15】
【Current Combat Class: Wizard Apprentice (One and a Half Star), Knights Squire (One Star)】
【Current Life Profession: Apothecary Apprentice (One Star)】
【Attributes: Physique 1.5, Spirit 2.4, Mana 0.7】
【Skills: Basic Alchemy (Proficient), Basic Meditation (Max), Zero-Ring Slime Splash (Max Proficient), Potion Brewing (Novice), Herb Identification (Novice), Foundational Swordsmanship (Proficient), Breath-Forged Body (Introductory), Spell Construction (Novice), Spirit Interference (Novice), Sound Wave Oscillation (Proficient)】
【Unique Talents: Dual Soul, Solar Blessing (Fragmented)】
【Strength Tier: Elementary Apprentice】
Mana value of 0.7—it meant he could cast multiple spells without exhausting his reserves.
From what he knew, a purely supportive zero-ring spell like "Slime Splash" consumed about 0.1 mana per use, while high-tier offensive zero-ring spells could drain up to 0.5 mana.
"In other words, I could manage seven auxiliary spells or barely one or two offensive ones. But with sound wave oscillation, I don’t need to spend extra resources learning a separate attack spell. As an apprentice, this should suffice for a long time."
Luo En mused, recalling fragments of conversation he’d overheard in Madame Ellen’s shop—
When an apprentice ascended to Full Mage, they could learn a special technique called "Overmagic." By consuming multiple times the normal mana, spell effects could be dramatically amplified.
This was why many Full Mages, even without extraordinary physical cultivation, could unleash world-altering spells of terrifying power.
"But it’s not just mages", Andie had mentioned during casual conversation. Bloodline knights and other non-mage professions could also harness mana.
They typically infused mana into their physical bodies to activate a temporary enhancement state called "Life Eruption." While less efficient than mages, this granted incredible power in close combat.
"Perhaps that's why the Arcane Swordsman path differs from standard professions. I should ask Andie about other hidden profession routes later."
Luo En took a deep breath, looking out the window. The Black Mist Jungle was cloaked in deep night, its dim stars barely piercing the thick fog.
Shaking his head, he decided to use his new elementary apprentice privileges to visit the library—surely there were more advanced cultivation resources there.
The Black Mist Jungle’s library occupied the third floor of the main tower, an immense, shadowy circular space dominated by towering bookshelves forming an intricate maze. Faint blue mana crystals illuminated each aisle with just enough light for reading.
After presenting his elementary apprentice badge, a mid-tier apprentice guard nodded curtly and let him pass.
"Elementary apprentice section is on the left. Don’t attempt to enter areas beyond the red lines", the guard droned, repeating a warning he’d delivered countless times. "Violators will be punished."
Stepping inside, Luo En felt the subtle mana fluctuations in the air—each book protected by defensive arrays to prevent damage or theft.
Scanning the shelves, he searched for ascension-related materials until finding an unassuming corner holding a weathered copy of The Apprentice Ascension Guide.
Settling into a quiet nook, he carefully opened the tome.
Chapter One detailed the apprentice tiers: elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Based on his current strength, Luo En had just entered the elementary apprentice stage.
What truly interested him, however, was the section on Full Mage ascension. Flipping ahead, he focused intently on the text:
"Full Mage ascension is fundamentally a qualitative transformation of spirit and mana. This process, known as 'Opening the Door,' involves unlocking the spiritual gates to higher power."
Frowning, he continued reading:
"The Rite of Opening requires strict conditions:
First, spiritual energy must reach the critical threshold;
Second, the apprentice must master the novice stage of a Gem-tier meditation technique;
Third, independently complete the refinement of a spell model;
Finally, complete the rite under a master’s guidance."
"During the rite, the apprentice drinks the specially prepared 'Key Elixir,' temporarily shattering spiritual barriers to confront higher power. Insufficient preparation risks failure, spiritual collapse, or even death."
As he read, a strange sensation surged through him—his interface was transforming!
Shifting focus, he discovered the Wizard Apprentice advancement information had automatically updated:
【Mage·Unknown Path (Two-and-a-Half Stars)】
【Advancement Conditions:
1. Spiritual Energy ≥ 4.9
2. Master any Gem-tier meditation technique (Determines advancement path)
3. Master at least one spell (Determines advancement path)
4. Complete the 'Opening the Door' Rite】
【Traits: Energy Circuits, Radiation Field, Overmagic Technique, Spirit Shockwave (Shared by all paths)】
Further exploration might reveal hidden profession routes and ascension conditions. Yet, staring at the mage requirements, Luo En felt a pang of pressure.
4.9 spiritual energy—only double his current amount, yet he already sensed diminishing returns as his stats grew. Perhaps later, even a 0.1 increase would be exponentially harder.
Perfecting a Gem-tier meditation technique and spell would require immense time and resources.
Mulling over his plan, he thought: "The priority is gathering materials on Madame Ellen’s list to obtain her Gem-tier meditation technique."
Those restricted items couldn’t be acquired through normal channels. According to Andie, the Black Market was the best option—Sunset Tavern, Lizard Alley, Blackwater Bay…
"Start with the safest options", he reminded himself. "Focus on steady progress and uncovering more professional paths."
"Could there be other unique profession routes?" He considered potential combinations: mage, knight, potionist as confirmed paths, but integrating other supernatural professions like Enchanter, Alchemical Artisan, Historian, or Astrologer might create synergies. Even bloodline-based professions like Vampire, Demon, or High Undead could intertwine with his existing abilities.
"This requires extensive research and fieldwork", Luo En sighed. "Every step must be carefully planned."
His short-term goals crystallized:
1. Acquire Madame Ellen’s listed materials for The Murmuring of the Star Devourer.
2. Master the Gem-tier meditation technique using Artificial Star Dew.
3. Understand the School’s factions and rules.
4. Explore hidden profession paths.
Continuing his search, he found descriptions of realms beyond Full Mage and brief mentions of worlds outside the Black Mist Jungle.
Muttering to himself, he noted: "Though this jungle has many Full Mages, according to the book, it’s barely a small supernatural hub?"
Before he could search further, a librarian approached, signaling the library’s imminent closure.
Leaving with a mind brimming with new insights, Luo En already mapped his next steps.
If even a Full Mage seemed godlike to commoners, what power did higher tiers like Archmage, Lich King, or the legendary Demon God command?
Eroding History, Folding Reality; Tampering with Laws, Reflecting Madness… Could ancient records truly be accurate?
Beyond this continent lay the Endless Sea, Fairyland, Dragon Graveyard, Abyssal Chasm—even the Exo-Stargate connecting other worlds. Places apprentices spoke of as myths… Did they truly exist? And could he ever witness them himself?
Back in his room, washing up before bed, Luo En let his thoughts settle.
Tomorrow’s sunrise promised new opportunities.
"Progress slowly but never stop… Otherwise, I’ll become another skeleton buried here."
With that warning to himself, he drifted into sleep.
