Chapter 45: Aurors
Chapter 45: Aurors
Bill led Sherlock into The Burrow. They were only two years apart and had been in different years at Hogwarts.
"I heard you got twelve Os in your Wizarding Exams and then applied to the Ministry of Magic as an Auror?"
Among the Weasley children, the fourth and fifth, George and Fred, were the most troublesome due to their personalities. In contrast, the two oldest brothers, Bill and Charlie, were quite mild-mannered.
The oldest pursued his independent spirit and eventually chose to become a Curse-Breaker at Gringotts in Egypt. The second oldest, Charlie, preferred rough and rugged adventures and became a dragon handler in Romania.
In response to Bill's question, Sherlock nodded calmly.
"I originally wanted to join the combat division of the Auror Command to gain experience, but they thought I was better suited for a desk job researching magic. After a year, I resigned due to the difference in roles."
Bill shrugged.
"Even if you don't become an Auror, being a Curse-Breaker is pretty good. Our job isn't just sitting in an office boringly waving a wand; it involves a lot of adventure."
"Becoming a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts was my ultimate goal. I applied to be an Auror because Professor Dumbledore thought I wasn't ready yet. Now, I have the job I wanted."
Sherlock couldn't easily change the original owner's pursuits and ideals, and Bill was impressed.
"I didn't expect Professor Dumbledore to hire a young man in his early twenties as a professor, especially for Defense Against the Dark Arts. This shows he trusts your abilities."
"Of course."
"However, regarding your joining the Order of the Phoenix, my parents and others have different opinions from Dumbledore. I suspect there will be some debate at the dinner."
Sherlock furrowed his brow.
"Why is that?"
"I'm not sure, but the dinner is about to start, and you'll find out soon enough."
The Burrow might look old and shabby from the outside, but it was spacious enough to house seven children and their parents. The number of rooms and the size of the living room were quite adequate.
After Bill gave Sherlock a quick tour of The Burrow, they walked out to the garden.
A long table, about ten meters in length, was already set up there. A light-colored tablecloth was neatly spread over it, and the table was adorned with abundant food. Three vases, evenly spaced, were filled with a variety of colorful flowers.
The garden was already bustling with people, roughly twenty to thirty in total.
Sherlock spotted Mad-Eye Moody and Kingsley Shacklebolt. Standing with them was Nymphadora Tonks, with her vibrant green hair, bright black eyes, and a quirky T-shirt that many rebellious girls her age favored. She clearly had a lively personality.
As Sherlock noticed this trio of young and old, the dark-skinned wizard also caught sight of him.
His expression grew serious, but he couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes. He stopped talking to the old, disabled man and the young witch and quickly approached Sherlock.
"It's been a long time, Sherlock. The last time we met was two years ago when I said goodbye to you at the Ministry of Magic."
The middle-aged wizard, aware of Sherlock's generally cold demeanor and dislike of overly intimate contact, gave him a light hug.
Sherlock didn't pull away, recognizing the wizard with the distinctive appearance.
This man had appeared in the diary entries and photographs of the original host.
Kingsley Shacklebolt, one of Dumbledore’s close aurors, had also been very supportive of the original host at the Ministry of Magic. He was one of the few people the original host was willing to interact with.
And the disabled, eccentric old man was another person Sherlock had seen in the original host's diary.
Alastor Moody, one of the most renowned aurors in the British Ministry of Magic.
His most famous achievement was during the 1970s, at the height of Voldemort's power. He fought Death Eaters without ever using Unforgivable Curses, and he managed to bring many aurors who had joined the Death Eaters back to the light side.
His missing eye and leg, along with the numerous scars on his body, were testament to his heroic battles against Death Eaters and dark wizards.
From his willingness to rehabilitate aurors who had become Death Eaters, it was clear that the young Moody was a brave, tolerant, and dedicated wizard.
However, as he aged, he became increasingly paranoid and irritable.
Despite this, he got along well with the original host at the Ministry of Magic. He believed that with the original host's abilities, joining the auror combat department would ensure a bright future, and he submitted multiple applications to the Ministry on the host's behalf.
Because of this, the original host’s relationship with Moody was even closer than with Kingsley.
After Kingsley joined Sherlock, Moody brought the young witch standing beside him over.
"It’s been a while, Sherlock. I heard you’ve become a professor at Hogwarts."
Moody’s voice was raspy and gruff, fitting his rugged appearance.
"I always knew you had the capability for this position, but if you had stayed in the auror command, you would have had a much more promising future."
"My dream has always been to become a professor at Hogwarts. Even the Minister of Magic doesn’t hold as much appeal to me as that."
Moody, upon hearing Sherlock’s words, did not get angry. Instead, he laughed heartily.
"Even after two years, you’re still the same old you."
Kingsley then pulled the young witch over to introduce her to Sherlock.
"This is Nymphadora Tonks, a Hufflepuff from the year below you. She graduated from Hogwarts last summer and is currently undergoing auror training. She’s very talented and will become an excellent auror. She also has a strong sense of justice and ambition, so I brought her along today to meet Dumbledore."
Kingsley was about to introduce Sherlock to Tonks again, but she excitedly interrupted him before he could speak.
"No need to introduce Forrester to me. I already knew him back in my second year, and I even confessed to him in fourth year."
Her bold statement left the surrounding wizards staring in shock, unsure of what to say.
