Chapter 448: The Cave
Chapter 448: The Cave
The Headmaster of Hogwarts seemed to have been snatched from his sleep by Fawkes, as he appeared dazed upon landing.
A gust of cold wind carrying the scent of the sea blew by, causing the centenarian to shiver but also rousing him from his stupor.
"Oh, Kyle, and Sirius... What happened? Why did you suddenly summon Fawkes?"
"Horcrux, Professor," Kyle said without preamble. "We've found Voldemort's Horcrux."
Dumbledore visibly lost his composure for a moment, his expression as if he had seen Snape in a ball gown dancing with a giant, both equally unbelievable.
He had also searched for clues to the Horcrux but to no avail, only to have Kyle find it after a nap?
Dumbledore always had a sense of unreality.
"Time is of the essence, I'll explain later..." Kyle looked at Kreacher, "Take us there first."
The house-elf hurried into the cave, followed closely by Sirius.
Kyle trailed behind, narrating the events to Dumbledore while soothing Fawkes, who was pecking at his hair incessantly.
It wasn't complicated, and by the time they reached the center of the cave, the story was mostly told.
Dumbledore's expression grew increasingly solemn.
A brave and kind person, lost and then found, chose to sacrifice himself upon realizing his mistake, to fight Voldemort and save more people... Even Dumbledore admired the courage Regulus displayed.
"I think he deserves a precious Phoenix Feather, even if it only brings him home a few hours earlier... It's worth it." Kyle concluded.
Dumbledore remained silent, merely nodding slightly.
Meanwhile, Fawkes stopped pecking at his hair, and they silently arrived beside Kreacher, stopping at a cave wall.
"It's here," Kreacher said excitedly, producing a dinner knife.
"What are you doing?" Sirius asked.
"I think this place probably requires blood to open," Dumbledore said.
Kreacher nodded; he had done it this way before.
"Too crude," Dumbledore said, his tone laced with contempt, even disappointment. "He wants his opponent to weaken himself before entering. Voldemort once again failed to understand that there are things more terrifying than physical harm."
Kreacher didn't understand his words; he was just happy to see Master Regulus soon and was about to cut his arm with a dagger.
However, the next second, the dinner knife was snatched away.
"I'll do it," Sirius rolled up his sleeve with the hand holding the dinner knife. He didn't think Regulus would let the house-elf bleed to open the door, so he wouldn't do it either.
But just as he was about to start, the dinner knife was snatched away again.
Kyle casually pocketed the heavy silver dinner knife and took out a deep red bottle, saying to Sirius, "Remember, you owe me three hundred Galleons."
Kyle opened the bottle, and a strong bloody smell instantly filled the small cave.
Dumbledore's lips twitched, and he wanted to laugh.
Voldemort probably never imagined that someone would carry a large amount of dragon's blood when coming here.
This blood, imbued with magic...
Kyle threw the bottle directly at the wall.
A white arch outline appeared on the wall, and the dragon's blood-soaked rock inside the arch suddenly disappeared, revealing a dark, endless void.
Kreacher excitedly dashed through the doorway, followed by the others, who also lit their wands.
Before them was a bizarre scene—they stood on the shore of a vast, pitch-black lake, seemingly endless. The cave they were in was also quite tall, and they couldn't see the top when they looked up.
Far in the distance, as if in the middle of the lake, a faint, greenish light flickered.
Kreacher, familiar with the path, ran along the lakeshore. His footsteps on the narrow rocks by the lake echoed with a 'papa' sound.
Soon, Kreacher stopped. He scanned the surroundings and then slowly moved his hand through the air as if trying to find and grasp an invisible object.
However, perhaps due to his short stature, he searched for a while without any success.
On the other hand, Dumbledore's hand, suspended in mid-air, had indeed grasped something.
He took out his wand and tapped his fist with the wand tip.

Immediately, a thick, green copper chain suddenly emerged from the lake, shooting towards Dumbledore's tightly clenched fist.
The chain pulled something from the pitch-black lake bottom, and Sirius stared in astonishment as a small boat's prow emerged from the lake like a ghost, floating towards where they stood. The entire process created almost no ripples.
"This is..."
"I believe Voldemort needed a way to smoothly cross the lake in case he needed to visit or retrieve something, without angering the creatures he placed in the lake," Dumbledore explained.
The boat reached the shore.
Kreacher and Sirius almost simultaneously jumped onto the boat, followed by Dumbledore.
The boat was indeed too small. After two adults and a house-elf boarded, only a palm-sized space remained.
"Kyle, you stay here. Fawkes will keep you company," Dumbledore said. "Moreover, Voldemort might have enchanted this boat. If the magical power it carries exceeds a certain limit, it will sink into the lake."
"That's right," Sirius agreed, nodding repeatedly. "And this boat is too small. Even if it were a normal boat, it couldn't bear the weight of three people."
Kyle suspected they were doing this intentionally, not wanting him to go, but he had no evidence.
What they said was true. As soon as Dumbledore stepped onto the boat, it sank significantly. At that moment, the boat's edge was less than an inch above the lake's surface. It was difficult to add another person, let alone a cat.
But...
"Sirs," Kyle asked with a strange expression, "Do you remember the main purpose of our visit?"
"Of course, it's to find Regulus!" Sirius blurted out.
"Since that's the case, why are you taking the boat?" Kyle glanced at the darkening lake. "I think the water here might have been transformed by Voldemort into another form of potion. Any creature dragged into it will gradually be assimilated into a member of the Dementors over time. So, why go to the middle of the lake? Taking action here should be the same, right? Why must we go to the center?"
Although Regulus was dragged into the lake from there, no one could guarantee he would definitely be kept there."
