Chapter 448: Gu Wenfeng Awakens
Chapter 448: Gu Wenfeng Awakens
The coastal city was home to many wealthy individuals and influential clans, which also led to a certain degree of disorder. As a result, kidnappings were commonplace. Lu Jiaxin had been cautious about this ever since her arrival, but unfortunately, she still fell prey to such an incident.
Lu Jiaxin's expression darkened as she said, "If it weren't for Gu Dawei and Wang Lin this time, the kidnappers would have succeeded. Now, I don't even know if he's alive or dead."
Seeing her worried expression, Su Heyuan comforted her, "Don't worry, Feng Ge will wake up soon. He's survived through gun battles and won't let a few kidnappers ruin his reputation."
Lu Jiaxin forced a smile and said, "I hope he wakes up soon, too. Even if his left leg is crippled, it doesn't matter. I can assure him a comfortable life for the rest of his days."
To ease her burden, Su Heyuan casually replied, "That's not like him. With his spirit, he wouldn't depend on others to get by. However, you can support his two sons' education. Seeing them succeed would be his greatest happiness."
"Of course, I'll take care of their expenses until they come of age."
To distract her from these grim thoughts, Su Heyuan shared some of his own relationship troubles. "After Ye Xin found out about my breakup with Bai Jingshu, she came looking for me, but I didn't see her."
"Do you think she believed that I couldn't forget her and that's why I broke up with Miss Bai?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
Su Heyuan shook his head. "I don't know, and I don't want to know. I have a friend who wants to introduce me to his sister, but she looks down on people from the mainland."
Seems like it's always one problem or another. Marriage is indeed a tricky business, and one should only proceed if they're truly willing; otherwise, happiness will always be elusive.
Lu Jiaxin thought that for Su Heyuan to endure his girlfriend's affections for another man, he must truly value his career. After some contemplation, she asked, "Su Ge, what are your plans for the future of Yuansheng Real Estate?"
His real estate company, now renamed Yuansheng Real Estate after the acquisition, had a rather impressive name.
The question took Su Heyuan by surprise. "Of course, it's this coastal city."
Lu Jiaxin bluntly stated, "The real estate market here is like a big cake, with the lion's share already divided among the four big families. Wansheng Real Estate has a strong foundation, but even then, Nie Zhan had to work tirelessly to barely secure a seat at the table with them. You entered the game late, with limited funds and connections. At best, you'll only get to sip the soup."
Su Heyuan had a decent understanding of Lu Jiaxin and could tell that she had something in mind. "So, where do you think Yuansheng Real Estate should focus its efforts?"
"The mainland," she replied.
Su Heyuan was stunned. "You mean the mainland?"
Lu Jiaxin affirmed, "Yes, the mainland. You're well aware of the housing situation there. Now that the mainland is vigorously developing its economy, what do you think will be the first thing on everyone's mind when they get rich? It will undoubtedly be improving their living conditions."
"I've had similar discussions with Nie Zhan, and he's already started making moves in that direction. But you have extensive connections in the mainland, as well as Uncle Xie and Aunt Su, giving you a natural advantage."
Su Heyuan was all too familiar with the intricacies of the mainland market and shook his head. "The mainland real estate market may not take off for another decade."
"That's why we need to start planning ahead," Lu Jiaxin argued. "The mainland is in the midst of a renaissance, lacking in many areas. If we play our cards right, there's no shortage of opportunities to make money. Take the home appliance factory, for example; the profits there are quite impressive!"
Su Heyuan was different from Nie Zhan. While Nie Zhan had a global vision and a high starting point, Su Heyuan's strength lay in the mainland, a perspective that aligned with Lu Jiaxin's.
Feeling a bit peckish, Lu Jiaxin grabbed an apple from the bedside table and took a bite.
After a long moment of contemplation, Su Heyuan said, "Jiaxin, thank you."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "There's no need to thank me. I own 20% of the shares in Yuansheng Real Estate, and I plan to increase my holdings. When the company makes money, my pockets will be filled too."
In Hong Kong, Su Heyuan had no advantage in the real estate business. Even if he did well, he could only develop Yuansheng into a medium-sized company. However, if he set his sights on the mainland, as long as he worked steadily and avoided chaos, he would undoubtedly become a trillion-dollar group in the future.
After finishing her apple, Lu Jiaxin went with Su Heyuan to visit Gu Wenfeng.
When the two arrived outside the ICU, Lu Jiaxin said to Su Heyuan, "Big Brother Su, there's a half-hour visiting time limit. Can you go in and talk to him?"
Seeing Su Heyuan looking at her, Lu Jiaxin continued, "You just said that Brother Gu has been through gun battles and won't let his reputation be ruined by a few kidnappers. Big Brother Su, I don't know what missions he has undertaken or how much credit he has established. Go in and chat with him about these things."
Su Heyuan was taken aback, "I don't know much either."
Lu Jiaxin didn't think it was important. What mattered was talking about his past to stimulate his fighting spirit and encourage him to wake up sooner. Every time she looked at Gu Wenfeng through the glass, unconscious and hooked up to tubes, she felt especially distressed, guilty, and afraid.
"Alright," Su Heyuan agreed.
He put on protective clothing and a face mask before going in, while Lu Jiaxin waited outside.
Miao Na said, "Boss, go back to your room and wait. I'll let you know as soon as there's any news."
Lu Jiaxin didn't agree and insisted on waiting there. The ICU visiting hours were restricted to only one hour per day.
Miao Na couldn't persuade her otherwise and could only sit beside her and wait together. She assumed that when the visiting hour was up, Su Heyuan would come out. However, to her surprise, after more than ten minutes, he suddenly rushed out, exclaiming that Gu Wenfeng had woken up.
Lu Jiaxin had also wanted to try, and she was delighted that it had worked. "Doctor, quickly, get a doctor to examine Brother Gu!"
The attending physician soon arrived after receiving the news. After performing a full-body examination on Gu Wenfeng, he transferred him to a regular ward.
Lu Jiaxin's worried heart finally settled, and she wiped her tears, her voice choking as she said, "Brother Gu, you're finally awake. If you hadn't woken up, I would have called your wife over."
A weak smile appeared on Gu Wenfeng's face as he assured her, "Don't worry, I'm not that easy to kill. Jiaxin, why are you also wearing a hospital gown?"
Lu Jiaxin didn't lie to him. She explained, "That night, I was so scared that I broke out in a cold sweat, and then the wind blew on me. The next day, I had a fever. It's gone now, but I didn't want to leave the hospital because I was worried about you."
Seeing her pale face, Gu Wenfeng knew that she hadn't eaten or slept well in the past few days. "I'm fine now. You should go through the discharge process and go home to rest properly."
Listening to their conversation, Miao Na felt that the relationship between these two people was not that of a boss and a bodyguard but more like that of a father and daughter.
Now that Gu Wenfeng was awake, it meant that he was out of danger, and the rest was a matter of slow recovery.
This time, Lu Jiaxin readily agreed, "Alright, I'll have them process my discharge. Brother Gu, you also take care and get well soon."
Gu Wenfeng nodded slightly.
Lu Jiaxin asked again, "Brother Gu, I want to bring your wife and children here to take care of you. What do you think?"
The couple had been living apart in different places due to work, but during his recovery, he could be with his wife and children. For example, Zong Jinghua had left for Australia the day before.
However, Gu Wenfeng shook his head and said, "Your sister-in-law doesn't speak Cantonese, and she's not used to the food here. Let's not trouble her. When I'm feeling better, I'll go back to Si Jiucheng to recuperate."
"Alright," Lu Jiaxin agreed.
