Chapter 448: Amnesiac Peter Pettigrew?
Chapter 448: Amnesiac Peter Pettigrew?
"Who are you people? Why are you tying me up?" Peter's expression grew increasingly confused. He tried to struggle, but the ropes binding him were too tight.
Peter's words made the two Aurors pause, and they looked at him suspiciously, demanding answers.
"Don't pretend with me! You'd better tell us the truth. Who were the people who came to rescue you earlier?"
Faced with their questions, Peter was utterly bewildered, not really understanding what they were talking about. Fragments of memories flashed through his mind, but they were too scattered to piece together.
However, the Aurors were convinced that Peter was putting on an act. After all, how could it be such a coincidence that the person who knew something important just happened to lose their memory right after an incident?
"Speak up quickly! Or do you want us to get rough?" The Auror's face darkened as he issued a threat.
The other Auror had even less patience. He waved his Wand, and a black beam struck Peter's thigh.
"Ah! Ah! Ah!" Peter let out a shrill cry of pain, his face turning a sickly purple as he rolled on the ground, pleading for mercy.
No matter how the two Aurors tortured him, Peter remained clueless, and they began to believe him.
"Peter Pettigrew must know some important information about the Dark Lord or the remaining Death Eaters, which is why someone came to rescue him", one of the Aurors said after a moment of silence.
"That's very likely. The person must have realized they couldn't save Peter, so they cast an Obliviate to make him forget everything", the other Auror nodded in agreement.
At this thought, both of their expressions soured. They were well aware of how important Peter was, and they had been repeatedly instructed to keep a close eye on him. They knew they were in for a severe reprimand for this mistake.
It was all the fault of that blasted Daily Prophet. If they hadn't publicized Peter's presence at Hogwarts, the remaining Death Eaters wouldn't have found out so quickly.
"You stay here and watch over Peter. I'll go report the situation!"
After discussing, the two Aurors made their decision. They would report the incident, request additional manpower, and have some experts examine whether Peter had truly been subjected to an Obliviate.
Ivan, who was disguised as a Dementor and floating nearby, overheard their conclusion and frowned, feeling the situation was becoming tricky.
If Peter really had lost his memory, it could complicate the upcoming trial.
Ivan hadn't expected things to escalate to this point. He had accidentally caused Peter to lose his memory.
However, the Dark Mark on Peter's arm should serve as proof, and the Ministry had already taken his statement. Ivan hoped the trial would go smoothly.
While he pondered this in his mind, Ivan distracted the nearby Dementors, telling them he would secretly work in the shadows for the greater good of their kind, and then quickly slipped away.
Meanwhile, in the Gryffindor common room, the three young wizards who had just caused a major incident were huddled in a corner, whispering about what had just happened.
"Thankfully, the Dementors didn't keep chasing us, or we would have been caught for sure", Harry recalled the thrilling chase, his face still pale.
"So you should have listened to me and not gone there in the first place!" Hermione glared at Harry.
Although she had guessed the location where Sirius was being held, she had not intended for Harry and Ron to take such a risk. If she hadn't been unable to dissuade them, she wouldn't have gone along to supervise.
Harry pressed his lips together and didn't respond. Seeing so many Dementors gathered around the Astronomy Tower, how could he have left Sirius there without a worry?
Among the three of them, Ron was the most miserable. He covered his head in despair, his expression more miserable than crying. "It's over, I've lost my Wand! If Mum finds out about this, she'll kill me!"
"Or I could buy you a new Wand?" Harry scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Since the plan was his idea, and Ron had lost his Wand while loyally accompanying him, Harry felt extremely guilty.
"This isn't about buying a new Wand, Harry! Ron's Wand was picked up by a Dementor. If that monster hands it over to the Aurors, they'll definitely trace it back to us!" Hermione said angrily.
"What should we do then?" Harry, reminded by Hermione, suddenly realized this and asked anxiously.
Ron was even more devastated. Since he had lost his Wand, he even suspected he might end up in Azkaban because of it.
As they were worrying, a slightly exasperated voice came from behind them.
"What should we do? Next time, learn your lesson. I told you not to go see Sirius recently!"
Harry and the others jumped, turning around to see Ivan standing behind them.
"Ivan! Did you hear everything? And when did you get behind us? I didn't see you at all!" Harry looked a bit embarrassed. He had promised Ivan not to go see Sirius, but now he had broken his word.
"You were just too careless. If I were your enemy, you'd be dead by now!" Ivan shook his head, avoiding Harry's question. Then he looked at Ron and tossed the Wand he was holding.
"Here, Ron, your Wand!"
Ron fumbled to catch it, looked at it for a moment, and realized it was indeed the Wand he had lost. He looked at Ivan with excitement.
"Wow, you found it? Thank you so much! You're my savior!" Ron, overjoyed, kissed the Wand, ignoring the dirt on it, feeling like he had been given a new lease on life.
"Ivan, how did you find this Wand? I thought it was picked up by a Dementor?" Harry asked curiously.
"I found it near the Astronomy Tower. Maybe the Dementor got tired of playing with it!" Ivan explained casually.
"So you were at the Astronomy Tower too? When Peter was about to reveal Professor Lupin's identity, he suddenly started shouting like he was insane. Did you cast a spell on him?" Hermione, being the clever one, quickly pieced together the unusual events.
She even suspected that the Dementors being called back during their pursuit might have been Ivan's doing.
