Chapter 447: Who's There?!
Chapter 447: Who’s There?!
Bang!
Bang! Bang!
At the port, Snug slashed repeatedly at the white aura surrounding him with his blade.
Perhaps due to the group splitting up, or the bearded man’s injuries, the white aura began to waver under Snug’s relentless strikes.
Each blow forced the aura backward, though it would immediately press forward again. Yet with every strike, the residual energy of the aura weakened further. After a series of attacks, Snug saw cracks form in the white aura with his own eyes.
It was only a matter of time before it collapsed.
Though the Navy’s numbers were vast, without this strange white aura, Snug no longer feared them.
While this quality of Navy troops was troublesome, Snug didn’t need to fight them all. Eliminate the bearded man, then ambush the civilians to create chaos—that was his goal.
His mission had never been to confront the Navy.
Bang!!
Snug swung again, sweeping his Haki-infused blade in a wide arc. The shield cracked, leaving a faint fissure. Seeing this, his grin widened.
Each strike sent shockwaves through the Navy inside the aura. They gritted their teeth, desperately holding their ground. Though the force of his attacks pushed them back, they stubbornly surged forward.
“Hold the line, comrades! Hold the line!”
Kas clutched his waist with one hand, gripping his saber with the other as he roared from the front line:
“We have no retreat! If we fall back, the injured civilians in this town will suffer. This town was entrusted to me by Kuromr. I won’t disappoint him, even if I die! Justice never retreats!!”
Three thousand Dogger Family Navy soldiers stood straighter, chanting in unison: “We will not retreat!”
Yet the shield showed no sign of strengthening, maintaining only its current intensity.
The only one truly driven by emotion was Kas.
“You can’t stop me.”
Snug sneered: “Breaking through this absurd shield is just a matter of time. Let me remind you—haven’t you noticed someone missing? Rezan already slipped past!”
“Our mission will be completed. The mother’s desired person will be ours. As for you…”
Snug tightened his grip on the Long Blade, then swung it powerfully forward.
Bang!!
The shield’s crack expanded, shattering like glass and dissipating into nothingness.
Revealing the flesh-and-blood Navy soldiers behind it.
“Vinsmoke Family’s Clone Soldiers? Nothing impressive. Rise, my men!” Snug bellowed.
The Chess Soldiers, previously defeated in an instant, stood up and regrouped.
They were not human—Homies created by the mother from collected souls. As long as their forms weren’t severely damaged, they could keep rising.
But their opponents were merely humans.
“Impact, charge!”
Snug gripped his Long Blade, leading the Chess Soldiers in a surge forward.
The enemy had exposed a flaw. That was all he needed!
“Form a protective line! I won’t abandon a single Douglegnavy!”
Kas roared, spreading his white energy to shield the exposed Navy soldiers. But clearly, the aura had grown thinner.
“Muda da!!”
Snug grinned, swinging his blade repeatedly at the shield.
This weakened defense couldn’t withstand even a few strikes before shattering again.
If the first breach had taken effort, now that he’d found the method, this thinner shield was no challenge.
Once something began to collapse, it could never be stopped.
As the white aura disintegrated, the Chess Soldiers broke through, clashing with the Navy.
Though the Navy reacted swiftly, handling the Chess Soldiers alone posed no problem. But their true opponent was Snug.
Before the white energy could spread further, Snug struck. With a few slashes, he shattered the shield around Kas’s position.
Bang!!
The Long Blade came down hard, blocked by Kas’s two-handed saber grip. The immense force drove Kas downward, his feet sinking into the soil.
“Hmph!”
The strain forced a pained grunt from Kas, his waist wound bleeding more heavily.
“I’m inside now!”
Snug’s malevolent grin widened: “Your eerie speed and white gas are useless against me. I’ll kill you right here!”
“I won’t retreat, even if you’re a 600 million bounty criminal!”
Kas tightened his saber grip, gritting his teeth as he shouted.
This wasn’t the same as the Summit War. Though passionate, he wasn’t a fool.
Back then, with Klahmr.’s help, he’d acted as a shield while Klahmr. was the spear, slaying several captains.
But this man was far stronger than those captains.
He had his own “spear”—Donald, his direct subordinate. But Donald had gone on patrol and couldn’t return so quickly.
Still—
“The civilians are behind me! This town is Kuromr.’s great charge! A mere pirate won’t make me surrender!”
Summoning unknown strength, Kas roared, his blade flicking upward to deflect Snug’s Long Blade.
But the moment it deflected, Kas dropped to one knee, gasping for breath, blood pouring faster from his waist.
The Douglegnavy fighting the Chess Soldiers slowed significantly, their injuries draining their abilities.
As Kas knelt, the Navy surged toward him.
“Die!”
Snug seized the moment, his blade sweeping forward, armored Haki surging. He slashed horizontally at the Navy—and Kas.
“One Cut, Two Halves: Explosive Severance!” Snug’s eyes gleamed with cruelty, his blade howling like wind as the ground cracked beneath its sweep.
If this strike connected, Kas and the Navy around him would be cleaved in two.
Boom!!
Suddenly, Snug’s body jolted as if struck by a massive force. His chest caved inward, spitting a wisp of blood as he flew backward, crashing heavily to the ground.
“Kuh!”
Sliding several meters, Snug coughed up more blood. He looked up, snarling: “Who the hell!!”
In the distance, two figures approached slowly.
“This willpower strength… still too weak.”
A short-haired elderly man dragged a familiar figure forward.
Beside him, a bespectacled elderly man withdrew his hand, walking alongside.
“Dougleg·Kas’s willpower strength relies on stirring emotions and resolve. But Clone Soldiers lack strong emotions, unlike normal humans. Unlike regular Navy, they can’t unleash powerful emotional surges. Their minds are too simple—both a blessing and a curse.”
The elderly man mused: “They can stably generate this defensive willpower, but further enhancement is impossible for now. Only humans with complex thoughts can awaken greater strength. Courage, resolve—true power comes from those with intricate minds.”
“Puhahaha! Old men wouldn’t understand! But holding off this man for so long? Not bad at all!”
The short-haired elder laughed, tossing Rezan aside as he addressed Kas: “Good job!”
“Sengoku, Fleet Admiral. Garp, Vice Admiral.” Kas looked up, bowing his head in shame: “I failed to defeat Snug.”
“I’m no longer Fleet Admiral. Call me Chief Inspector.”
Sengoku waved cheerfully, turning to Snug: “Now, it’s your turn.”
