Chapter 447: Peter, Dazed and Confused
Ron wailed helplessly, his voice filled with heart-wrenching anguish, but Harry firmly covered his mouth, lowering his voice to a whisper as he spoke in his ear.
"Let it go, the Aurors are coming up. We have to leave!"
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed from downstairs.
Ron glanced once more at where his wand had fallen. The Dementor that had taken his wand had flown off somewhere, and with that, Ron, feeling utterly helpless, ran away with Harry.
At the Astronomy Tower, Sirius watched the commotion outside the door with concern, hoping that Harry and the others could escape successfully.
However, he also noticed that the Dementors seemed different from before, less agitated.
None of the Dementors had approached him during this time, and most of them had gathered around Peter, seemingly discussing something.
The whistling wind echoed in Sirius's ears. He couldn't understand the Dementor language and thus had no idea what they were saying.
In the dark space created by the Dementors, a Dementor holding a wand was earnestly trying to calm its agitated kin.
"Everyone, don't forget what happened before. This is a carefully planned conspiracy by the Ministry of Magic! Those cunning wizards are testing our loyalty to decide how to deal with us in the future."
"We need to be patient, very patient! We must wait for the right moment to achieve our goals!"
"Only the Dementors who can endure will be able to stand tall again!"
After Ivan's brainwashing, the Dementors in the Astronomy Tower finally calmed down, no longer making a commotion.
Ivan heaved a sigh of relief.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione were truly capable of causing trouble. He never expected that even after hiding Sirius's location, they would still manage to find their way here and cause such a huge mess!
If it weren't for his intervention, they would have been caught by the Ministry's Aurors for sure, at the very least facing a severe reprimand. He might even have had to transform into Dumbledore to negotiate with the Ministry's Aurors.
That would have been troublesome, but fortunately, he handled it in time.
Thinking of this, Ivan looked at Peter. There was still one more problem to deal with.
If the Ministry's Aurors came in and questioned Peter, he might spill the beans about Harry and the others, and even reveal that Lupin is a Werewolf Wizard.
"Can Dementors use magic?" Ivan muttered to himself, raising his right hand. In the blurry vision, his arm, with its withered and shriveled skin almost clinging to the bone, held a wand tightly in its scarred fingers.
"Obliviate!" Ivan waved his arm, aiming at Peter.
As the spell was cast, Ivan's magical energy was quickly mobilized, but it encountered resistance when it reached the wand, becoming intermittent. Fortunately, it eventually followed the wand's guidance and shot out, striking Peter.
Peter, already weakened by the Dementors' torment, was curled up in the corner. When hit by the white light, he convulsed violently for a while before finally falling unconscious.
Ivan watched Peter's abnormal reaction after being hit by the Memory Charm and recalled the difficulty in casting the spell. He had an uneasy feeling. He wasn't sure how using magic in Dementor form would affect him.
Moreover, Ron's wand, like his own, had a unicorn hair core, which naturally clashed with the evil nature of Dementors. This might be the reason for the abnormalities.
"Looks like I shouldn't casually cast spells in this form", Ivan lamented for a moment, silently reflecting on the situation.
While he was distracted, two Aurors responsible for guarding the Astronomy Tower heard the commotion and rushed up.
Seeing Peter lying on the ground, seemingly lifeless, they immediately became tense and rushed to check on him.
"Thankfully, he's just unconscious", one Auror checked Peter's breathing, relieved, and then looked around at the Dementors, frowning. "What happened? What's going on here?"
"Someone came in to rescue Peter and ran away!" Ivan approached, mimicking the Dementors' broken speech.
The Dementors floating around did not contradict him. Being blind, they only knew that someone had sneaked into the Astronomy Tower, used the Patronus Charm to attack them, and then escaped.
"What? Someone tried to rescue Peter Pettigrew?" The two Aurors, recalling Peter's status as a Death Eater, realized the severity of the situation. This suggested that the infiltrator might also be a Death Eater.
Sirius was confused. When the Aurors questioned the Dementors, he was worried, but he didn't expect them to draw such a conclusion.
However, Dementors were always synonymous with chaos, so Sirius wasn't surprised. Generally, someone who went to great lengths to infiltrate a place was there to rescue someone, and since he was about to be exonerated, the only target for rescue could be Peter.
The Aurors also thought the same, so they didn't doubt Ivan's words and focused on the unconscious Peter.
"Aguamenti!" One of the Aurors waved his wand, summoning a stream of water to revive Peter and question him.
Ivan and Sirius watched this with growing tension.
Ivan wasn't sure if the Memory Charm he cast earlier would work as intended.
Sirius, unaware that Peter had been hit by a Memory Charm, was extremely worried that Peter might reveal that Harry and the others had been there.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, Peter slowly regained consciousness. His expression was odd, and his face seemed unusually dark in the dim light. He looked around at the people in the room and sneered.
"Fools, the Dark Lord will return!"
Peter's sudden words caused the two Aurors to change their expressions, a chill running up their spines.
They then snapped out of it, one of them punching Peter to wake him up, enraged.
After all, the Dark Lord had been "dead" for over a decade and couldn't possibly return!
After being punched a couple of times, Peter, with a bruised and swollen face, looked at the Aurors with a puzzled expression, muttering to himself.
"Who am I? Where am I? Why am I here?"
