Chapter 447: Bringing Regulus Home
Chapter 447: Bringing Regulus Home
In the end, Sirius couldn't help but release Kreacher, standing there in a daze as if he had been hit by a Soul-Sapping Curse.
Remus patted Sirius' shoulder, "He was a true Black and a worthy Slytherin. His name deserves to be praised by all."
Kyle sighed silently beside him, saying nothing.
In his opinion, Regulus had made his decision from the start, and he never thought of coming back alive.
Perhaps it was because the ideal he had always held onto had shattered. When he decided to part ways with Voldemort, this outcome had already been sealed.
Voldemort was a skilled Legilimens, and Regulus was well aware of this. He wasn't confident that he could hide the fact that he had stolen a Horcrux.
This meant that once his act of stealing the Horcrux was discovered, he would undoubtedly face Voldemort's wrath, and not just him, but also the other Blacks and Kreacher—no one would be spared.
So, he chose to sacrifice himself to keep this secret, and only by doing so could he save more people from harm.
As for Kreacher, given Voldemort's character, he wouldn't care about a House-Elf. Perhaps, when he left the cave, he had already forgotten about that insignificant creature.
Sirius covered his face and wept bitterly, tears dripping through his fingers and falling onto the floor.
He had misunderstood Regulus for over a decade, and it was only now that he realized that his younger brother wasn't weak at all; he was even braver than him.
To willingly face death for the sake of killing Voldemort, even in a place where almost no one would ever set foot, even if no one would ever know about it... but he still did it.
Sirius couldn't imagine how Regulus had made such a decision.
His mother was right, and Kreacher was right too. They were all right—Regulus was indeed much stronger than him.
"I'm going to bring him back!" Sirius wiped the wet tears from his face, "No matter what, I must bring him home... He should be home, not left at the bottom of that cold lake!"
"Kreacher!" he suddenly shouted, "I command you, take me to that cave, and together, we'll bring Regulus home!"
Just as Sirius was about to grab Kreacher's arm, Remus suddenly appeared before them.
"Wait, wait, Sirius," he said quickly, "We can't be so reckless. It's best to inform Dumbledore first."
Kreacher lifted his head and glared at him resentfully.
"Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to stop you," Remus explained, continuing, "But going there is too reckless. Don't forget, that's where the Dark Lord hides his things.
And just now, Kreacher also said that what's under the lake... if I'm guessing right, it should be Dementors, and there are at least hundreds of them.
To find Regulus, you'll have to disturb them... Can you handle hundreds of indestructible, immensely powerful monsters?"
Remus' words finally made Sirius calm down a little, but only slightly.
"I don't care, Remus," Sirius said seriously, "I can't leave Regulus alone at the bottom of that cold lake. Every second here is the most painful torture for me, even more so than the Dementors.
Remus, I know you're right, but I don't want to wait anymore... As long as I can bring Regulus back, even if it means I die there, I don't care."
Remus looked at him for a long time before finally sighing and taking a step back, "Alright then, I respect your decision.
"Thank you, Remus." Sirius said, "After we leave, you'll write to Dumbledore, and I think he'll find it there."
"Okay." Remus nodded.
"Thanks." Sirius reached out to grab Kreacher.
But just then, without any warning... Remus raised his wand.
"Stupefy!"
Remus's thoughts were simple: since he couldn't stop Sirius, he would stun him and tie him up until Dumbledore arrived.
However, Sirius seemed to have guessed his intentions, and in an instant, he transformed into a large black dog, dodging the surprise attack.
He then immediately transformed back, turning to face Remus.
"I know you too well, Remus." He said, "Did you think I didn't see it? You just subconsciously held your wand."
"No matter what you say." Remus gave up pretending, "I can't just watch you go to your death. As long as I'm standing here today, you're not going anywhere!"
"I don't think so." Sirius smiled slightly, "Sorry, my friend.
"Kreacher, what are you waiting for!"
The house-elf immediately came to his side, reaching out to grab his arm.
"Sirius..."
Remus didn't finish his sentence when, with a loud bang, the vast room was left with only him.
