Chapter 446: The Fall of the Serpent God
Chapter 446: The Fall of the Serpent God
As if gently parted by an invisible force, the sky revealed a clear, azure canvas as the clouds slowly parted, unveiling the brilliant sun hanging high like a burning golden orb.
But soon, everyone realized that it wasn't the sun.
For it was slowly descending.
Where the light converged, a massive golden sphere emerged from the clouds. The intense radiance bathed the stadium in a warm golden glow, like the dawn of a new day.
Soon, the golden sphere began to transform.
As if imbued with life, the outline of a divine bird took shape within the golden light. The Phoenix, imbued with the fire of the sun, spread its majestic wings, revealing a body forged from pure gold. It soared high, cleaving through the sky and leaving a trail of golden storms in its wake, bathing everything below in radiant light.
"First of the Divine Illusions, the Winged Dragon of Ra, I summon you!"
"It's you again!" The Serpent God hissed, its voice sharp and angry. "Detestable Pharaoh, despicable Divine Illusion!"
The Winged Dragon of Ra flapped its wings and roared, charging towards the Orichalcum God. As it flew past, it left a burning trail in the sky, as if igniting the clouds themselves.
"It took the combined efforts of three gods to defeat me back then," the Serpent God bellowed. "And now you dare to face me alone?"
With that, it lunged forward.
The Winged Dragon of Ra's eyes blazed with a fierce crimson light, and its roar seemed to echo with anger.
Yu Xuan couldn't understand what the Divine Illusions were saying, but he imagined that Ra was taunting the Serpent God, boasting that it would have defeated it easily if not for the cumbersome Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys during their previous encounter.
The golden Divine Illusion and the pitch-black Serpent God clashed instantly, the solar radiance and the profound darkness clashing and consuming each other, entwined in a relentless struggle.
The divine beasts exchanged blows, climbing higher into the sky with each attack. From the ground below, the spectators craned their necks to witness the battle. They saw thunderclouds rolling in the sky, with occasional black lightning bolts piercing the darkness. The surrounding seas churned with storms, the waves growing more violent by the moment. Explosions of golden light erupted now and then, each more terrifying than the last.
The Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon let out a draconic roar and took to the skies to join the fray. The Chaos Soldier also brandished his sword and stepped forward. Although this level of combat would be challenging for him in his current state, he refused to stand idly by. At the very least, he could provide support and assist from the sidelines.
The Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon was renowned as a divine-level monster, but its victories in duels depended largely on the skills of its duelist. Therefore, even when pitted against a Divine Illusion, it was challenging to determine which was stronger.
However, as the battle with the Serpent God raged on, the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon displayed glimpses of the Divine Illusion's might. With each exchange of blows, the half-crippled Serpent God found itself increasingly overwhelmed, its defeat becoming more apparent.
Finally, the Serpent God's defenses crumbled. A Sacred Flame Cannon from the Sun God and a "Flashing Radiance Storm" from the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon struck simultaneously, hitting the Serpent God's chest and back.
The Serpent God of Orichalcum could no longer withstand the onslaught. With a sharp, piercing cry, its black body plummeted from the sky, appearing to have been reduced to ashes even before it hit the ground.
The last wisp of black energy returned to the Judge's body. He knelt on the ground, his face deathly pale, as the dark aura within him overflowed uncontrollably, causing his illusory body to begin disintegrating.
Yu Xuan and Kaiba stood on the stage, one on the left and the other on the right, looking down at the defeated Judge with the air of victorious conquerors.
"But I was still beaten by the despicable Pharaoh," it added coldly.
You Xuan remained unfazed, merely nodding in acknowledgment. "If you say so."
Perhaps there was some truth to that. The Seal Instrument's enhancement of his "power" during the duel and the residual energy it provided for his Winged Dragon of Ra played a crucial role in this decisive battle.
Without the aid of that divine artifact, You Xuan might have still won, but he could have also lost. Nonetheless, the outcome of the duel would have undoubtedly been vastly different.
However, he didn't dwell on it.
In a duel, only victory or defeat mattered, especially when one was gambling with their life and the fate of the world. Only the winner had a future, and as long as he secured that future, he didn't care about accusations of relying on external aids or lucky draws to turn the tables.
He could always work on improving his own strength after winning this battle and gradually upgrade himself.
The Judge was clearly infuriated, but his physical form was barely holding together. Most of his body had already disintegrated into black energy, and he knelt on the ground, struggling to speak.
"Don't think this is the end!" he managed to say. "I told the Pharaoh this back then, and it still holds true. As long as the darkness in people's hearts remains, I will return again and again, no matter how many times I'm defeated!"
"And you!" His gaze fixed on You Xuan. "One day, you will bring about a darkness a hundred times deeper than what I have wrought! For you are that kind of existence!"
"You will all regret it!" His voice seemed to fade as he spoke.
Finally, the Judge's body completely disintegrated into a black mist, dissipating into nothingness.
"Hmph, the last words of a beaten cur," Kaiba scoffed, his tone reflecting his disdain, as if the Judge were just another defeated foe he had vanquished.
However, there was a hint of regret in his heart.
Back then, Dartz had been one of the few opponents he couldn't defeat, and while the Judge wasn't Dartz reincarnated, he was the mastermind behind him.
This should have been Kaiba's chance to rise again. After years of absence, he could have used the opportunity of surpassing the barrier he couldn't overcome back then as a springboard to claim the title of the new Duel King. It was supposed to be a perfect opportunity.
Alas, he failed to seize it.
Who would have thought that Kaiba Seto, revered as the first person in the dueling world by outsiders, would be bested by a newcomer?
As this thought crossed his mind, he turned to look behind him, only to be taken aback.
You Xuan, who had been standing behind him, was no longer there.
Turning back, he saw You Xuan squatting at the spot where the Judge had disintegrated, picking up the discarded Duel Disk.
He had started looting.
Kaiba: ". "
Indeed, for someone who had just reached the pinnacle of the dueling world and claimed the title of Duel King, this was a display of staying true to one's roots.
You Xuan was quite pleased with the Judge. Not only did the Duel Disk contain a powerful card deck, but the man had also brought several other backup decks. It seemed that, like himself, the Judge was skilled at utilizing multiple decks in battle.
You Xuan relished facing such opponents. Defeating them meant acquiring a trove of rare and powerful cards.
If only all villains were this considerate; he would be waking up to pleasant surprises every day.
