Chapter 446: Lanchi and Pranai Discuss Heroes
Chapter 446: Lanchi and Pranai Discuss Heroes
Pranai remained silent, choosing not to engage in further conversation with the Poet of Great Love. In his opinion, this new king was unpredictable, and no one could tell if the king's earlier decision to spare his sister was a temporary show of mercy or a veiled threat.
He needed to analyze and judge the situation accurately. If he didn't follow the new king, the consequences could be dire. However, even if the new king spared him due to concerns about the risk of Protoss Empire prison control, his sister would not be so lucky.
"Mr. Pranai, if you don't feel like talking, I won't force you. I just hope you'll share your worries and troubles with me. Perhaps I can find a way to help."
The Poet of Great Love didn't rush Pranai but instead knelt nearby and spoke slowly. He believed that Pranai longed for freedom, and he saw a desire in Pranai's eyes that was strikingly similar to Sinora's.
As a wise man of the Demon Realm, Pranai's gaze was assessing whether the new king was a rational being capable of communication. This was a mutual selection process, so there was no need to rush the conversation with Pranai.
Antanas, who was standing by, took a small bottle of wine and two glass cups out of her coat pocket and placed them in front of the Poet of Great Love and Pranai. She then poured half a cup of wine for each of them.
Sinora was about to say something but stopped when she saw Antanas produce the items from the Helrom Prison. Antanas' professional demeanor surprised both the Poet of Great Love and Pranai.
However, the Poet of Great Love didn't comment further and simply thanked Antanas. She would have made an excellent bartender or server.
Soon, as Antanas retreated to the background like an attendant once more, Pranai, who had been silent for a long time, turned his gaze back to the new king. "Your Majesty, what are your thoughts on the current state of the Protoss Empire?" Pranai asked politely, maintaining a respectful distance as he looked into the king's verdant, rational eyes.
He rarely encountered such rational demons, and this new king was filled with unknown dangers. No one could predict if the king would decide to eliminate him in the next moment.
With these thoughts in mind, Pranai picked up the Snowfield Fiery Wine and took a small sip to bolster his courage. If he wasn't mistaken, the new king's successful infiltration of Helrom Prison indicated that they had already established some level of infiltration within the Protoss Empire and intended to use it as a base for their demon tribe's revival plans.
"There are many things that need to be changed, and I am working towards that goal," replied the Poet of Great Love, stroking his chin thoughtfully. He didn't mind spending time in this slow conversation with Pranai.
"In other words, you still have hope for the empire?" Pranai's tone softened.
"Of course, I have high hopes for the Protoss Empire, and I will not give up on this country for any reason," the Poet of Great Love replied with a clear and resolute voice, as if making a promise.
"...”
Pranai picked up his glass, sipped the wine, and fell into contemplation as he observed the drink. He could only accept the worst-case scenario. If the new king had indeed chosen the Protoss Empire as their base, they were likely already deeply entangled and engulfed in this catastrophe. It might even be difficult to persuade the new king to give up today.
After a long pause, Pranai spoke again. "Where lies the hope for the Protoss Empire? I see no glimmer of hope in this country, not even a single partner worth our collaboration." Pranai's eyes carried a hint of resignation as he looked at the black-haired, green-eyed woman and asked, "If you intend to bring me, Sinora, and Antanas along as you annex the Protoss Empire in the future, you will need partners to gradually consume this country. But..." Pranai's words trailed off.
Given the new king's radical style, the next step would likely involve seeking out high-ranking individuals within the empire, negotiating deals, or directly bewitching them. However, Pranai had no idea whom the new king planned to approach or if any agreements had already been made.
"What do you think of the Great Sage, Isis Mellon?"
"I believe that within the Protoss Empire, we cannot do without the support of those who uphold the rules, such as Her."
The Poet of Great Love picked up his wine glass but did not bring it to his lips as he inquired.
"Hehe, that old elf is as dull as they come. After the passing of Great Emperor Franklin, she is merely fulfilling her promise to guard the Protoss Empire. She will only react when a crisis looms, but by then, it will be too late."
Pranai shook his head.
As if he wished for Isis to drop dead.
"..."
The Poet of Great Love regarded Pranai's expression and felt that it clearly carried a hint of personal grudge. These three great demons from the prison all had some sort of issue with the Empire's Great Sage, Isis Mellon.
"What about Duke Morotian Bernhard?"
The Poet of Great Love asked again.
As it happened, today, after the talks with Warden Bakas were concluded, they were to meet with this holder of the [Original Slab-Undead], Duke Morotian Bernhard.
"Too detached and aloof. Compared to the Protoss Empire, Duke Bernhard would prioritize his own interests. Even if we collaborate with him, he would only view it as a temporary alliance with a tiger, constantly plotting to utilize us and then annihilate us without a trace."
Pranai's gaze carried a hint of resistance.
He was all too aware of this most fearsome human genius of the Protoss Empire in recent years, who had achieved a level of power that Pranai himself found unimaginable in just a few short decades.
Duke Bernhard's stance was something even Pranai couldn't see through.
"What of the cardinals of the Resurrection Church? There's Siegfried of the Dominant Faith, Bishop Askesan of the Silent Death, and Bishop Amylase of the Mournful Dirge, all of whom possess strength comparable to the former two."
The Poet of Great Love held his wine glass, focusing solely on Pranai's reaction.
According to Pranai's line of thinking, perhaps leaning towards a third-party camp outside of the Protoss Empire would be more trustworthy?
As it happened, he had a collaboration with the Dominant Faith, and their companies were even close to merging to form a new corporate group.
"Their ambitions are too grand. It's hard to tell whether they would backstab us or if we would end up backstabbing them."
Pranai fixed his gaze on the reflection in the wine within the new king's cup. He knew all too well the kind of people the cardinals of the Resurrection Church were.
Nowadays, the Resurrection Church on the surface held far more power than the Demon Realm had back in the day.
Collaborating with the cardinals could very well be a choice that would hasten the destruction of both them and the Protoss Empire.
"..."
The Poet of Great Love took a sip of his wine.
He felt that Pranai's judgments made sense. Even imprisoned, Pranai was still able to analyze the situation of the Protoss Empire over the past century, which was why the empire had kept him locked up in the depths of the underground prison under the strictest security measures.
"What about Lochi Maccassi?"
Just as the king and Pranai fell silent, Antanas suddenly interjected.
She wasn't sure if Pranai had heard of this name or if he had seen anything about Lochi Maccassi through his eyes when looking at the ground of Helrom Prison.
Although she didn't know who Lochi Maccassi was, she had heard the name mentioned several times as she passed by the prison corridor offices on her way to the negative fifth layer. It seemed that this person was someone the Protoss Empire held great expectations for and that they even had numerous associations and business collaborations with Helrom Prison.
The black-haired, green-eyed Poet of Great Love turned his head to look at Antanas with a complex expression, causing her to shrink her neck and cover her mouth.
"..."
But this time, Pranai remained silent for a rare moment.
"A mortal's body, powerless to change the course of fate."
Pranai finally replied.
"?"
Both Antanas and Sinora were astonished. They hadn't expected that out of all the figures of the Empire that had been mentioned, Pranai would place his hopes on this human, Lochi Maccassi.
The implication was that if Lochi Maccassi possessed strength comparable to the others, then perhaps the Empire still had a glimmer of hope.
It was just a pity that this person lacked the time to save the Empire; it was already too late.
