Chapter 445: The Pendant Box in the Glass Cabinet
Chapter 445: The Pendant Box in the Glass Cabinet
Tens of thousands of Galleons flew away, and Kyle only felt a sharp pain in his flesh.
But there was no other way; compared to this gold, the Hufflepuff Cup was even more important.
Just like the Ravenclaw Diadem, the Cup was also left behind by the Four Founders.
After Voldemort, that good-for-nothing, turned it into a Horcrux, he entrusted it to Bellatrix for safekeeping.
However, unlike Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix did not keep Voldemort's belongings in her own home. Instead, she chose what she believed to be the safer option—a vault in Gringotts.
Speaking of Horcruxes... aside from the Cup, which they couldn't get their hands on for the time being, there was another one nearby, one that could be said to be within arm's reach.
This was also the main reason Kyle agreed to come to Grimmauld Place 12 with Sirius.
As for the box, it was a complete surprise. In fact, Kyle had never imagined that the key to opening the box would be Sirius Black himself.
He had originally planned to try a regular spell first. If it didn't work, he would use Incendio or ask Nymphadora Tonks for help the next time they went to Wiltshire.
Thinking of this, Kyle first glanced at Kreacher, who was still tied up on the ground, and then casually removed the Binding Charm he had cast earlier. He turned and asked,
"Sirius, can I take a look around here?"
Kreacher, who was about to leave, froze in place upon hearing these words.
"The young master brought back a little devil. Kreacher has never seen such an evil wizard. He's not satisfied with blowing up the living room; now he wants to blow up other places. Kreacher must protect the mistress's house; no one should think of destroying it..."
"Shut up, Kreacher!" Sirius couldn't help but roar. "No one wants to destroy this place. If anyone does, it will be me!"
He turned to Kyle and said, "There's not much to see here, but if you're interested, of course, there's no problem. Just be careful not to wake up those portraits.
Also, it's best not to go to the basement or the third floor and above alone. Remus and I haven't checked those areas yet, so we're not sure if they're safe."
"Don't touch the locked cabinet in the living room." Remus suddenly spoke up. "If my guess is right, there should be a Boggart inside."
He hadn't forgotten how exaggerated Kyle's handling of the Boggart was. If it happened again, this place might truly be destroyed.
Kyle smiled. Last time, it was purely because he wasn't prepared. Now, the Boggart was nothing to him.
However, he didn't explain anything. He simply took out his wand and restored the living room, which was in ruins.
Sirius and Remus also helped.
With the three of them working together, the room was soon restored to its original state.
Kreacher finally stopped muttering to himself but still followed closely behind them, monitoring their every move.
"I was just about to ask," Kyle said, looking at Sirius as they walked down the corridor. "Did you buy a new wand?"
"Oh, you mean this?" Sirius raised his hand, shaking the wand with gold and gems in his hand. "Of course not. I'm still wanted. How could I possibly go to Diagon Alley to buy a wand?
This is an old wand I found in the storage cabinet. Although it's not very useful, I don't have any other choice right now."
Accompanied by Sirius, Kyle visited every room on the first and second floors, including the entrance hall.
The lights here were dim, and their shadows on the walls almost merged with the darkness, making it look like the lair of some dark wizard.
"The first thing I'll do when cleaning up is throw out all these lanterns." Sirius scowled.
He hated dark places because Dementors always emerged from the darkness without any warning.
When it was too dark, he would subconsciously think of this unpleasant memory.
Hearing his words, Kreacher, who was following behind, started muttering again.
But this time, Sirius didn't bother to pay attention to him. In any case, before Harry moved in, all these antique lanterns had to be replaced, and the room had to be brightly lit, without a single dark corner.
After walking around, they arrived at the living room on the second floor.
This was a large room, much bigger than the living room they had been in before.
Kyle found the cabinet Lupin mentioned, next to an armchair. It was probably meant to store important documents, but now it was occupied by a Boggart.
Even from a distance, you could see the cabinet gently trembling.
Kyle wasn't interested in the Boggart; he just glanced at it and turned away. On the opposite wall, there was a larger glass cabinet, displaying some strange and bizarre items.
Kyle walked over.
"If I ever thoroughly clean up this place, the first thing to go will be the stuff inside this cabinet."
The correct version is available at 69 Book Bar! 6=9+Book_Bar.
Sirius stepped forward and said in a disgusted tone, "Almost all of these are Dark Magic artifacts. They love this stuff and display it like treasures..."
Kyle examined the glass cabinet. In the center was an open, dusty box containing an Order of Merlin Medal. Kyle also had one, but his ribbon was purple, while this one was green.
The Order of Merlin First Class Medal was awarded to Sirius' grandfather for his "contribution to the Ministry of Magic."
"It means they gave him a lot of gold," Sirius said disdainfully. "At that time, a Dark Wizard turned the wizarding world upside down, and they needed gold to recruit more Aurors."
"To exchange for a First Class Medal..." Kyle whispered, "The amount of gold must have been enormous."
"I don't know the exact amount," Sirius said. "It's said that it was exchanged for half the gold in the vault. He believed this would enhance the honor and status of the Black family."
"Half the gold, that's quite generous!" Kyle was a bit surprised and clicked his tongue in amazement, continuing to look down.
Next to the box was a silver snuffbox. Kyle tapped it with his wand, and it immediately split in half, turning into a big mouth that bit the wand and sprayed a grayish-brown powder.
This powder was similar to one of Zonko's prank products. When it stuck to your body, it formed an unsightly hard shell, but it wasn't very harmful and could be removed with a simple cleaning charm.
On the left was a particularly ugly silver instrument, resembling a spider with tweezers on its head. It also ran like a spider.
As soon as the cabinet door was opened, it tried to run, but Sirius smashed it with a thick book.
There was a music box with a group of distorted shadows painted on it, which probably wasn't a good thing either.
There was also a pile of ancient-looking seals, which seemed normal,
And... At this moment, Kyle's heart suddenly pounded twice.
He found it in an inconspicuous corner, a golden pendant box.
...
