Chapter 445: Dragon Turtle
Chapter 445: Dragon Turtle
"Hiss..."
Lu Chen slowly opened his eyes, feeling as if his head was about to split open. He had no recollection of what had happened before.
His spiritual sense slowly seeped in, and his mind gradually cleared.
"That Sixth-Rank Old Ape's monkey wine packs quite a punch. Even my mid-Foundation Establishment physique struggled to handle it."
As he thought about it, Lu Chen sensed something amiss with his body. It felt as if he was encased in a shell.
Upon closer inspection, he found a thin layer of chitin on his limbs, torso, neck, and every other part of his body.
With a gentle tremor of his spiritual power, the thin layer of chitin shattered into countless fragments.
A deep black sword aura surged from his fingertips, and the black wind howled, carrying the fragments away to the outdoors.
"So light," he murmured. He felt an unprecedented lightness in his body, with not a trace of impurity in his flesh and blood.
"I didn't expect the old ape's monkey wine to have the effect of cleansing the marrow and tempering the meridians."
Lu Chen couldn't help but marvel.
"I wonder if I can get my hands on some," a thought suddenly popped into his mind.
Currently, the only spirit brew he had on hand was the Hundred Fruits Spirit Nectar, which, although delightful with its ever-changing flavors, was getting a bit monotonous. It was time to diversify his collection and try something new.
"That monkey wine must be made with special ingredients and an extraordinary brewing technique. The chances of getting it from the old ape are slim, but perhaps I can take a roundabout approach. I might be able to get my hands on the spirit fruits it uses for brewing from him, and once they're ripe, I can see if the light sphere can reveal the secret recipe for the spirit wine."
His mind raced with ideas.
"Chirp chirp!"
"You're awake?"
A crisp, low roar reached his ears.
Lu Chen turned to the source and saw the White Jade Little Ape quietly waiting in the corner, its eyes fixed on him.
The worry in its clear, ruby-like eyes faded when it confirmed that Lu Chen's body was back to normal.
"Little White Ape, you've been watching over me?"
Lu Chen felt a twinge of guilt. The little ape had stayed by his side while he was drunk, yet here he was, plotting to get his hands on its family's spirit wine.
Damn it...
The fleeting thought passed, and his desire for the rare spirit wine quickly overwhelmed the guilt in his heart.
He stretched lazily, his bones cracking.
Stepping out of the house, he walked slowly on the cloud platform, still feeling a lingering hint of intoxication. The little white ape followed closely behind.
After a while, Sun Yun approached from the opposite direction.
When he saw Lu Chen, he was about to turn away, but then he spotted the White Jade Little Ape behind him.
At that moment, Sun Yun's pupils dilated as he recognized the White Jade Qingtian Ape, a legendary Sixth-Rank protective beast of the sect.
Having resided in the Myriad Demon Cave blessed land for decades, he was all too familiar with this little spirit beast before him.
However, what puzzled him was how the descendant of the Sixth-Rank protective beast could be so obediently following Lu Chen?
"Greetings, Brother Lu," Sun Yun said as he passed by, his eyes fixed on the little ape.
Indeed, it was the very same violent ape in the blessed land that had subdued countless spirit beasts!
"Hello," Lu Chen nodded.
As they crossed paths, the little white ape seemed oblivious to Sun Yun's presence and continued to follow Lu Chen.
The man and beast arrived at the massive mountain where the little ape dwelled.
At the summit, the gigantic old ape sat on a flat stone that protruded from the ground. In front of it was a set of celadon tea utensils, glowing with spiritual light. It held an ancient-looking book, its attention completely absorbed in the tome.
"Senior, thank you for the cup of spirit wine yesterday. I gained a lot from it," Lu Chen said sincerely.
"On the contrary, it's impressive that you recovered so quickly from the effects of the monkey wine. Your spiritual sense and physical body are quite remarkable."
A hint of appreciation flashed in the old ape's eyes.
"I happened to obtain a body refining technique and have been cultivating it for a long time, which has greatly enhanced my physical body," Lu Chen explained vaguely.
"Senior, I've brought you some of the Hundred Fruits Spirit Nectar that I brewed myself, made from dozens of different spirit fruits. It has a delightful variety of flavors," Lu Chen said as he took out a jar of the nectar and several Mystical Immortal Peaches from his storage bag. "And these are some Mystical Immortal Peaches, crisp and sweet, infused with abundant spiritual power. Please, have a taste."
Having received the precious monkey wine from the old ape, Lu Chen naturally wanted to reciprocate.
"Hundred Fruits Spirit Nectar? That name sounds familiar. I recall it being the signature brew of a Foundation Establishment cultivator in the sect. That old deer loved it so much that he always had it by his side. I didn't expect you to be able to brew it as well," the old ape said, a hint of reminiscence in his tone.
He poured the nectar into his tea cup and took a sip, savoring the explosive combination of the myriad spirit fruits' fragrances.
"Not bad. It's the taste I remember, perhaps even better," the old ape nodded in approval.
A smile tugged at Lu Chen's lips as he saw the old ape's appreciation for the Hundred Fruits Spirit Nectar, which was notoriously difficult to brew. And the time it had spent maturing in his Drunken Immortal Gourd had only enhanced its quality further.
Having completed the offering, Lu Chen couldn't contain his curiosity any longer as he sat before the White Jade Qingtian Ape, a sixth-rank protective beast of the sect. He quietly gathered his mental energy and focused on the old ape.
A stream of information flashed through his mind.
[White Jade Qingtian Ape, Sixth-Rank Spirit Beast, Protective Beast of the Celestial Sword Sect. Possesses an incredibly robust physical body with the might to move mountains and part seas.]
[Has a violent temperament and is fierce and aggressive in battle. When in a frenzied state, its strength increases exponentially, but it loses all sense of self, attacking friend and foe alike.]
[Currently cultivating its temperament and nature... ]
[The world is so wonderful, there's no need to be so irritable...]
"A sixth-rank spirit beast, probably at the mid-to-late Foundation Establishment stage. Truly terrifying..." Lu Chen thought to himself.
"Just like the little ape, it's fierce and aggressive, but I can't see any signs of a violent temperament at all," he added, unable to reconcile the gentle and erudite old ape before him with the description of a beast with a savage nature.
Now that he had gained some insight into the old ape, Lu Chen sat obediently beside the little ape, his curiosity piqued.
"Senior Ape, I've only recently arrived at the Myriad Demon Cave blessed land, and I'm not familiar with the spirit beasts here. Could you give me a brief introduction?" he asked respectfully.
"Of course," the old ape agreed.
"There are numerous spirit beasts in the Myriad Demon Cave, all reared by the Celestial Sword Sect. Most of them are second and third-rank, with a significant number of fourth-rank beasts as well. Even a fourth-rank beast is considered among the top powers in the Myriad Demon Cave."
"In addition, there are five fifth and sixth-rank beasts, equivalent to the Foundation Establishment stage."
"I am one of them."
"As for the others, there's a pair of Xuan Tian Luan Birds, the parents of the little luan bird that often plays with the little ape."
"They are both fifth-rank beasts. A few years ago, the Grand Elder of the sect took them to a distant Cave Heaven to help unravel its mysterious restrictions."
"There's also a dragon turtle, a sixth-rank beast that has lived for who knows how many millennia. And a fifth-rank beast, an old fox with a reclusive and eccentric temperament. You might never cross paths with it, even if you stay here for several more decades."
