Chapter 444: Injured
Chapter 444: Injured
Nie Zhan was in the middle of his shower when loud banging on the door startled him. Before he could ask what was happening, his bodyguard, Da Hu, shouted from outside, "Boss! Boss! Miss Lu has been kidnapped..."
Nie Zhan, still covered in soap suds, hastily wrapped a bathrobe around himself and rushed out of the bathroom. "What did you say? Jiaxin has been kidnapped?"
Da Hu handed him a handheld phone while reassuring him, "Miss Lu's on the phone."
Nie Zhan snatched the phone, his voice urgent as he asked, "Jiaxin? Jiaxin, where are you? Quickly, tell me your exact location."
"Bang! Bang! Bang..."
The sound of gunfire reverberated from the other end of the line, causing Nie Zhan's heart to leap into his throat. "Jiaxin? Jiaxin, where are you? Hurry, tell me your location, I'm coming to find you right now."
Lu Jiaxin, crouching on the ground with her hands covering her ears, waited until the gunfire subsided before replying in a trembling voice, "I... I left the Italian restaurant and was on my way home forty minutes ago. The car was traveling at its usual speed."
Based on the time and the car's speed, Nie Zhan had a rough idea of her location. "I'm coming right now. Jiaxin, are you alone? If you are, make sure to hide and don't let the kidnappers find you."
"Mina's with me. Ah Zhan, call the police quickly!" Lu Jiaxin said.
The reason she had called Nie Zhan first instead of the police was that she knew he could get the authorities involved more efficiently.
Nie Zhan replied with a quick "Okay" before hanging up. He then instructed his bodyguards to prepare the car while he called the Police Commissioner.
The commissioner happened to be working late, and his face turned pale when he received Nie Zhan's call. "Mr. Nie, I'll send officers immediately. We'll make sure to catch these kidnappers."
One of the robbers spotted Gu Wenfeng and Wang Lin hiding in the grass near Lu Jiaxin and Mina. But before he could get close, a peanut shot hit him between the eyebrows, and another robber was struck in the hand by Gu Wenfeng, causing him to drop his gun.
Gu Wenfeng and Wang Lin were determined to protect Lu Jiaxin, and they fought fiercely against the kidnappers, unlike some bodyguards who would surrender at the first sign of gunfire. Zong Jinghua also showed no signs of backing down, inspired by their bravery.
With their relentless fighting style, five out of the eight kidnappers were quickly killed, leaving three remaining—one severely injured and two with minor injuries.
Faced with such ferocious resistance, the remaining kidnappers were terrified. The two with minor injuries helped the severely injured one back into the car, and they made their escape.
Zong Jinghua didn't pursue them but instead rushed over to check on Lu Jiaxin.
Seeing the blood on Zong Jinghua's arm, Lu Jiaxin asked with concern, "Are you... are you hurt?"
Zong Jinghua's left hand had been grazed by a bullet. He replied, "It's just a graze, nothing serious. Boss, are you alright?"
Lu Jiaxin forced herself to calm down. "I'm fine. How about Gu and Wang Lin? Are they okay?"
"Wang Lin's arm is injured, but he's wearing a bulletproof vest, so hopefully, he's not badly hurt. I'm not sure about Gu's condition. Boss, stay here and don't move. Wait for the police to arrive," Zong Jinghua instructed.
"Mina, protect the boss," he added.
Without needing Zong Jinghua to say it, Mina would have done the same. She stayed by Lu Jiaxin's side, not daring to leave her alone. If the kidnappers doubled back, they wouldn't have the same fighting capacity as before.
Lu Jiaxin also knew better than to argue. She called out towards the car, "Gu, are you alright?"
Gu Wenfeng had been shot in the arms and legs, and blood was still flowing out. Hearing Lu Jiaxin's voice, he replied with difficulty, "I'm fine. Jiaxin, stay hidden and don't come out."
Lu Jiaxin's heart sank as she heard the pain in Mina's voice. Suppressing her worry, she said, "Gu Da Ge, hold on a little longer. I've called Ah Zhan, and he's on his way with the police."
Mina's keen ears detected the concern in Lu Jiaxin's voice and said, "Mr. Wang, Mr. Gu, don't talk and conserve your strength. Mr. Nie has alerted the police, and they'll be here with an ambulance soon."
Wang Lin, having been shot twice, lay still as blood continued to flow from his wounds. Any movement would only make the bleeding worse.
Lu Jiaxin called Nie Zhan again and informed him that the robbers had fled. She then gave him their precise location and an update on the injuries: "Gu Da Ge and Wang Lin are both hurt, and we don't know how many bullets they've taken. They need to be rushed to the hospital for surgery to remove the bullets. Ah Zhan, please call Yanghe Hospital and ask them to prepare for their arrival. As soon as they get there, the doctors should operate on them."
It was late, and most doctors would be resting, but with Nie Zhan's influence, he could ensure the hospital was ready to perform the surgery as soon as they arrived.
Despite hearing that the robbers had fled, Nie Zhan was still anxious: "I'll make the arrangements now. Jiaxin, stay there and wait for me. I'll be there soon."
After hanging up, Lu Jiaxin looked at Zong Jinghua's blood-stained arm with concern. "Mina, we don't know the extent of Mr. Gu and Mr. Wang's injuries. The ambulance might take a while, and if Zong Da Ge continues to bleed like this, he could lose his life before help arrives."
Knowing she couldn't leave Lu Jiaxin's side, Mina lowered her voice and said to Zong Jinghua, "Their target was the boss. Even if there are more assailants hiding in the shadows, they won't act now for fear of alerting us. Go and get the first aid kit from the car to treat Mr. Gu and Mr. Wang."
With Lu Jiaxin having already assured them that the police were on their way, Zong Jinghua believed the robbers had likely fled. Without hesitation, he rushed to the road and retrieved the first aid kit from the car.
Zong Jinghua first tended to Wang Lin, pouring Golden Wound Medicine on his wounds. Wang Lin grimaced and let out a muffled groan as the potent medicine stung his injuries. Thankfully, the bleeding stopped soon after.
As Zong Jinghua reached for some gauze to bandage the wound, Wang Lin stopped him, saying, "Brother Hua, please go and help stop Mr. Gu's bleeding first."
Gu Wenfeng had multiple wounds, and his entire body was soaked in blood. Zong Jinghua didn't waste any time and poured the medicine directly onto the wounds.
"Ah..."
Gu Wenfeng cried out in agony and passed out from the pain.
Lu Jiaxin, upon hearing his cry, tried to go to him, but Mina held her back. "Boss, we need to stay here and wait for the police. If we go out there, the kidnappers might return, and all the blood shed by Mr. Gu and Mr. Wang would be for nothing."
After tending to the two injured men, Zong Jinghua sat down and took a roll of gauze from the first aid kit, placing it in his mouth. He then poured the Golden Wound Medicine onto his own wounds.
Fortunately, the gauze in his mouth helped muffle his cries of pain. Once the pain subsided, he quickly bandaged his wounds.
The police arrived soon after, and a group of officers disembarked with guns drawn, surprised to see the bodies on the ground. One of the officers recognized Zong Jinghua and immediately approached him for a detailed account of the situation.
Zong Jinghua explained, "Our boss wasn't kidnapped by the robbers. She's hiding in the grass over there."
Seeing the large police presence, Mina knew they were now safe, and she escorted Lu Jiaxin to the road. At that moment, Wang Lin was still conscious, but Gu Wenfeng had lost consciousness.
Tears welled up in Lu Jiaxin's eyes, and she sobbed as she called out, "Gu Da Ge, Gu Da Ge, wake up! Please wake up! What will your wife and children do if you die?"
