Chapter 444: A Familiar Face Returns
Chapter 444: A Familiar Face Returns
It had been years since Mewtwo last saw Mew after their previous parting.
They first met on New Island, back when Mewtwo was still engulfed in chaos, seeking an answer to its existence.
In its quest for self-discovery, Mewtwo transformed New Island, turning the remnants of Team Rocket's research facility into a castle. It invited powerful humans to a grand banquet.
That was when Mew crashed into its castle.
Created as a clone from Mew's genes, Mewtwo sought to prove that the copy surpassed the original, leading to an intense battle between them.
The clash extended to the Pokemon and trainers attending the banquet. It was then that Mewtwo witnessed the positive side of humanity—when a human named Ash, in an attempt to stop their fight, was turned to stone. The Pokemon present shed tears that ultimately revived him.
Touched by this display, Mewtwo abandoned its plan and led the group of cloned Pokemon away from New Island.
Their second encounter took place at a location known as Clear Cliff.
It was there that Mewtwo officially learned about the Great Adventuring Team and gained a deeper understanding of Mew, the Pokemon it once considered its mother.
Eventually, Mewtwo accepted Mew and Teddiursa's invitation, leading the group of cloned Pokemon to a place called Naoki's Ranch.
The human, Naoki, welcomed Mewtwo and its companions with hospitality.
In Naoki's eyes, these cloned Pokemon seemed no different from ordinary Pokemon—they were all beings that existed in this world.
Out of gratitude for his hospitality, or perhaps due to other inexplicable reasons, Mewtwo refrained from using its psychic powers to erase Naoki's memories of them.
After that, Mewtwo and its group began traveling the world like humans, seeking a sanctuary that could accommodate their unique group.
But up until now, Mewtwo had not found that place.
However, Mewtwo did not feel discouraged. Along its journey, it encountered numerous Pokemon and had ample time for introspection.
The human genes within its makeup endowed Mewtwo with richer emotions and wisdom than the average Pokemon.
This journey had been immensely beneficial to it.
The Mewtwo of today had undergone a profound transformation in mindset compared to its time on New Island.
Having experienced so much and encountered countless Pokemon, it witnessed how they treated it as just another ordinary Pokemon.
In those moments, Mewtwo felt like it had become one of the countless beings in this world—ordinary in its arrival and destined for an ordinary departure.
Reuniting with Mew on this ranch stirred unfamiliar emotions within Mewtwo.
It was as if it had been longing to meet Mew again, to share with each other their current circumstances.
Mewtwo suppressed the terrifying psychic aura emanating from its body and stepped forward with the group of cloned Pokemon, calling out using telepathy.
"Mew."
Mew, who had been napping under a towering tree, suddenly heard a familiar voice calling its name.
It opened its eyes, slightly confused, and looked forward.
Just then, Mew spotted several familiar figures in the clearing ahead.
It was... Mewtwo, Meowth, Vileplume, and Pikachu!
"Miu!"
Mew immediately let out an excited cry.
The joy of reunion filled its heart, and it happily flew forward, circling Mewtwo and the other Pokemon, greeting them enthusiastically.
Teddiursa and Zapdos were also awakened by Mew's voice.
Teddiursa's eyes lit up, and it ran forward cheerfully, greeting Mewtwo and the others: "Umbreon, Espeon!"
Zapdos, unfamiliar with Mewtwo, was perplexed by the actions of its teammates.
But soon, Teddiursa introduced Mewtwo: "Umbreon, Espeon, Umbreon!" (It's Mewtwo, a good friend we met before!)
Hearing this, Zapdos understood that this Pokemon, like itself, had also been helped by the Great Adventuring Team.
Mewtwo, in turn, directed its gaze towards the bird Pokemon with yellow feathers.
It gave a slight nod before looking back at Mew and Teddiursa.
"Long time no see," Mewtwo's deep voice resonated in the minds of the two Pokemon through telepathy.
"Miu!" Mew nodded its small head. Indeed, it had been a long while since they last met.
Tilting its head, Mew looked at the group gathered behind Mewtwo and asked curiously, "Miu?" (Are you all traveling, too?)
Mewtwo nodded in affirmation.
The group of Pokemon sat down in the clearing amidst the trees.
Teddiursa took out the snacks made by Naoki from Zapdos's pouch and offered them to the visiting Pokemon.
Mewtwo glanced at the meticulously crafted and adorably shaped human treats before addressing Mew:
"I wanted to see the world and find a place that could accommodate us cloned Pokemon."
Mew inquired, "Miu?" (And have you found it?)
Mewtwo shook its head. "Not yet."
The world was vast, and many places bore the marks of human presence.
Mewtwo preferred secluded, tranquil valleys with beautiful surroundings and abundant resources over locations closer to human cities, where they would frequently be disturbed by human trainers.
The availability of ample resources was the most critical factor among the three conditions.
Initially, Mewtwo hadn't given it much thought, but as their journey progressed, it gradually became aware of something crucial.
Pokemon needed to eat.
While it could manage on its own, the same didn't hold for the group of companions that followed it.
Hearing Mewtwo's words, Mew and Teddiursa looked at each other.
In fact, they liked Mewtwo too and considered it a good friend.
During quiet nights, Mew would occasionally think of Mewtwo, wondering where it was and how it was doing.
And this feeling became even stronger after the World Tree grew.
—"It would be great if Mewtwo and Pikachu, Meowth, and the others could also live on the World Tree."
That way, they wouldn't have to part again!
If they wanted to meet, they could do so anytime, anywhere. They could eat Starfruit together, gaze at the stars, play and chase each other, and even invite everyone to their secret base to play.
It would be so wonderful! With this in mind, Mew and Teddiursa made up their minds.
Teddiursa invited Mewtwo: "Yimo!" (Mewtwo, why don't you and everyone come to live on the World Tree with us?)
Hearing this unfamiliar term, Mewtwo was taken aback.
"World Tree?"
Its tone was filled with confusion.
"Yimo!" (That's right! The World Tree!)
Teddiursa nodded vigorously.
Mew by its side also happily covered its mouth and giggled, "Miu~" (Yes, it's a really big tree that Naoki grew. We've invited lots of good friends to live there~)
Teddiursa's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm: "Yimo!" (That way, we can all be together from now on!)
Naoki... that human.
Mewtwo's mind conjured up the image of that human offering it fruit wine the last time they met.
"Did he grow the World Tree?" Mewtwo asked.
Teddiursa nodded, "Yimo!" (Yes! And also Riding Mountain Goat!)
Riding Mountain Goat, that sounded like another Pokemon.
Mewtwo fell into deep thought, not immediately giving a reply.
Currently, it was not alone; apart from itself, there were many Pokemon that depended on it for care.
With this in mind, Mewtwo turned around and looked at the group of cloned Pokemon that followed it.
Pikachu, Meowth, Charizard, Blastoise, Venasaur, Dugtrio, Gyarados, Dragonite, Psyduck, Nidoqueen, Vaporeon, Victreebel, Rapidash, Rhyno, and Jigglypuff.
Apart from these cloned Pokemon, their group had also grown over the past year.
Two Mareep, a Skitty, a Rattata, a Whismur, a Riding Mountain Goat, and a Donphan.
These Pokemon had suffered greatly at the hands of humans, and Mewtwo couldn't bear to see such things happen, so it rescued them.
From then on, this group of Pokemon joined their ranks.
Mewtwo intended to lead them to find a secluded place to live together.
Mewtwo gazed at this group of Pokemon, and they returned its gaze.
"Miu?"
Mew, by its side, tilted its head, watching this scene curiously.
It blinked, seemingly sensing the hesitation in Mewtwo, and its little face showed a thoughtful expression.
Teddiursa's face fell, confused by Mewtwo's hesitation.
"Yimo..." (Why don't we all go together...)
Mewtwo remained silent.
At that moment, Mew suddenly thought of a good idea.
It flew excitedly to Mewtwo and called out, "Miu!" (Mewtwo!)
Mewtwo was taken aback and looked up at Mew, puzzled.
The next second, Mew curled up its body as if gathering strength, and then a blue, magical aura emanated from its body and spread out in all directions.
The surroundings changed rapidly.
They had moved from the clearing in the forest to above an enormous, towering tree.
In almost the blink of an eye, all the Pokemon noticed this incredibly huge tree.
Their faces showed surprise.
"Pika!"
"Meow?"
"..."
Mewtwo was also astonished, but soon realized that Mew was showing them the World Tree from its memory!
"Is this the World Tree?" Mewtwo asked, its eyes curious as it looked ahead.
Compared to this tree, they seemed so tiny and insignificant.
"Miu!"
Mew nodded vigorously.
Then, using its psychic powers, it flew forward with the surrounding Pokemon.
They passed through the lush foliage at the top of the World Tree and saw a vast area below.
Mewtwo scanned the area and found that its size rivaled that of a human-built metropolis!
The tree boasted various terrains—lush forests, verdant grasslands, streams winding through the woods, and finally, a circular lake in a clearing.
This was what they could see so far.
Beyond their current field of vision, there surely lay even more expansive areas.
Mew led the group as they flew through the tree, introducing it:
"Miu~" (This is the World Tree. Don't worry, this place is very quiet. Apart from Naoki, who occasionally comes up, there are no other humans. Only Pokemon live on the tree. Naoki said he wants to help us build an Adventuring Guild headquarters here!)
Teddiursa added, "Yimo Yimo!" (That's right! Apart from the guild, there will also be a Pokemon tavern, a Pokemon cafe, a Pokemon restaurant, and a Pokemon hospital, all run by Pokemon!)
"Miu!" (And Naoki will also plant lots and lots of fruit trees on the tree so that no one will ever go hungry again!)
Teddiursa's eyes shone with determination.
If they could, they truly wanted a home of their own, where they could eat their fill of Starfruit every day and play with their companions upon waking up.
Rather than wandering around homelessly like they were doing now, drifting like stray Pokemon with no place to belong.
More importantly, together with Mewtwo.
Together, they could live happily ever after in a paradise of their own.
After finishing their introduction, Mew and Teddiursa fell silent.
They quietly looked at Mewtwo and the group of Pokemon in front of them, leaving the rest of the time for everyone to decide for themselves.
Although they really wanted to invite everyone to settle on the World Tree, in the end, they had to let everyone decide for themselves.
Mewtwo remained silent as it looked at the Pokemon behind it.
When it saw the look in their eyes, it already had the answer in its heart.
"Do you want to go and live in that place?"
Pikachu Number Two, cloned from Ash's Pikachu, took the lead and replied, "Pika!" (Mewtwo, come with us, too!)
Meowth's clone, from Team Rocket, looked longingly and said, "Meow." (No matter where we go, the moon will always be round.)
Mewtwo was taken aback.
Its gaze swept across the other Pokemon.
Vileplume, Charizard, Blastoise, and the others nodded in unison.
Mewtwo closed its eyes and said softly, "I understand."
A moment later, it opened its eyes and turned to face the waiting Mew and Teddiursa.
"Thank you, Mew and Teddiursa." Mewtwo's deep voice resonated with the two Pokemon, "From now on, we will set off together and go take a look at the place you mentioned."
"Miu!" Mew let out a happy cry.
Teddiursa also nodded happily, "Yimo!" (Yes! You will definitely like it there! You won't have to wander around anymore!)
Seeing these two Pokemon who cared so much for them, Mewtwo's heart was deeply touched.
"Mm." It nodded and then asked, "So, will you come with us to that place?"
Mew and Teddiursa shook their heads.
"Yimo, yimo yimo!" (Not now. Naoki gave us some quests, and we're going to help a Pokemon named Kirlia!)
"Miu!" (We'll come back in the winter, and I'll take you to my secret base to play. There are lots of toys there!)
Seeing Mew's childlike innocence, Mewtwo couldn't help but smile.
Was it really cloned from this Pokemon? Their personalities were so different now.
The human genes within it told Mewtwo that in a sense, Mew was its mother.
And during its years of wandering in the world, Mewtwo had come to understand what it meant to be a mother.
But looking at the childlike Mew in front of it, Mewtwo pushed the thought away.
It nodded and promised, "Okay, we'll be waiting for you to come back."
In the afternoon, after successfully delivering the apples ordered by the customer, Naoki began his journey back to the ranch.
On the country road filled with the scent of soil, Naoki drove his old pickup truck slowly.
A group of Eevees squeezed into the passenger seat, pressing their faces against the window to look at the scenery outside.
Meanwhile, Golem and Motox sat in the back of the pickup truck.
Along the way, he occasionally spotted trainers with travel backpacks running by, and sometimes even saw them battling with Pokemon in the grass.
Watching those scenes, Naoki felt like he was an NPC in a game, living an ordinary life, driving a truck, and traveling back and forth with his Pokemon.
This was probably what it meant to be an ordinary person in the Pokemon world.
Suddenly, Naoki noticed a trainer with a worried look on his face standing by the roadside and waving at him.
Naoki raised an eyebrow and stopped the car by the roadside. He stuck his head out of the window and asked, "Hey, what's wrong?"
The young boy with a youthful face looked anxious. "Sir, please help me! Take us to the nearest town! This Little Lion is injured and needs treatment as soon as possible!"
Hearing this, Naoki looked at the Little Lion in the boy's arms.
The Little Lion had its eyes closed tightly, its body covered in wounds, its fur messy, and it looked very weak, as if it had been badly injured.
"Don't worry, wait a moment."
Naoki reached into the carriage and took out a bottle of Life Milk, handing it out to the boy, "Feed this to the Little Lion. After drinking this milk, its body will get better."
The boy was stunned for a moment, but quickly reacted and fed the milk to the badly injured Little Lion.
The next second, a miraculous scene unfolded.
The milk transformed into magical energy, visibly healing the Little Lion's wounds.
In the blink of an eye, the Little Lion recovered its health and slowly opened its eyes.
