Chapter 440: Sirius Black Captured Again
Chapter 440: Sirius Black Captured Again
"Is that so? Then you had better pray you haven’t made a mistake", Fudge said through gritted teeth, seething with anger. However, he knew he didn’t have a strong enough reason to confront Dumbledore.
"Of course, I am very sure of my judgment. I can take you to see Peter right now!" Ivan ignored Fudge’s impotent rage and gestured an invitation.
Fudge snorted coldly and strode towards the entrance of the Castle. The other Aurors also skirted around Ivan and followed.
Ivan found the situation a bit awkward, but he was always magnanimous and didn’t take it to heart.
The group walked into the bustling Great Hall.
Since it was a day off, many young wizards were still lingering after breakfast.
Sirius Black was also there, chatting and laughing with some Gryffindor young wizards, seemingly recounting his and James’s, Lupin’s adventures during their student days.
"Black!"
The Aurors behind Fudge, upon seeing the fugitive they had been pursuing appear so boldly in the Hogwarts Great Hall, instinctively drew their Wands and pointed them at him.
The large commotion scared the young wizards in the Great Hall. Seeing this, Ivan turned to Fudge and said in a low, serious voice.
"Cornelius, I believe you have read the news. Mr. Black is not a murderer or a traitor. He has fought against the Death Eaters in several battles. I think he should be removed from the wanted List."
"Who knows if that’s true? It might be a lie fabricated by Black. In any case, he’s still a suspect, isn’t he? Arrest him!" Fudge sneered, waving his hand and giving a meaningful look to the Aurors behind him.
The Aurors immediately understood and took out magic handcuffs to put on Black.
Ivan frowned, hesitated for a moment, but did not speak to stop them.
Before a trial, Sirius was indeed a suspect, and Fudge’s actions to detain him were legal. If he tried to stop it forcefully, Fudge would use the excuse of obstructing the Ministry of Magic’s law enforcement against him.
From the original timeline, the headstrong Fudge had eagerly led a group to arrest Dumbledore, showing that this power-addled fool wouldn’t consider the strength disparity. His reliance on authority might not be effective!
Sometimes, fools are harder to deal with than the smart ones.
Ivan realized he couldn’t predict what foolish actions Fudge might take, so it was best to be patient for now.
Sirius did not resist when the Aurors came to arrest him. Without an order from Dumbledore, he remained silent throughout, avoiding saying anything that might cause trouble for Dumbledore.
The surrounding Aurors sighed in relief at Sirius’s cooperation but still put the magic handcuffs on him.
This was a special magical item that, once worn, restricted a wizard’s magic, preventing the prisoner from using any spells.
"You can’t take him away like this! Sirius is innocent!" Just as the Aurors were about to take Sirius away, Harry and the others pushed through the crowd to block their path.
The law enforcement Aurors, facing the young wizards blocking their way, seemed at a loss. No matter how they tried to intimidate Harry and the others, they refused to move.
"Oh, it’s Potter, isn’t it?"
Fudge pushed an Auror aside and walked up to them, speaking to Harry with obvious impatience.
"Please do not interfere with the Aurors’ lawful duties. We are trying our best to seek justice for your parents."
"Minister Fudge, if you truly intend to seek justice for my parents, then you should release Sirius Black and capture Peter Pettigrew instead." Harry looked at him stubbornly, showing no signs of backing down.
"I will capture Peter, now move out of the way and stop causing trouble for us." The persistent Harry finally made the already impatient Fudge lose his patience. He waved his hand, signaling the Aurors to forcibly remove them.
At that moment, Sirius Black suddenly spoke up.
"Harry, step aside. They are just going through the motions. I’ll be fine!"
Despite the shackles on his wrists, Sirius did not look worried. It was as if he was being invited somewhere Rather than being arrested.
Harry hesitated for a moment, then looked at Dumbledore standing nearby. Seeing the Old Professor shake his head, Harry reluctantly took a few steps back.
Fudge watched this with a cold expression. Harry's disregard for his authority and Sirius's nonchalant attitude greatly irritated him, making him feel that his authority was being challenged.
"Cornelius, weren’t you planning to see that Peter Pettigrew? We can go now!" Ivan suddenly spoke up.
Fudge nodded and ordered the other Aurors to take Sirius with them as they headed towards the staff lounge.
Upon opening the door, they saw a short, plump middle-aged wizard curled up in the corner, bound tightly with thin ropes, lying motionless on the ground, his condition unknown.
"What is this?" Fudge turned to look at Ivan.
"Peter Pettigrew is an unregistered Animagus who can transform into a Rat. Normal supervision methods don’t work on him. To be safe, I had someone cast a Stunning Spell on him every two hours."
Ivan explained in detail to Fudge, not wanting any negligence by the Ministry of Magic to give Peter a chance to escape.
The accompanying Aurors, upon hearing Ivan's method of restraining Peter, inwardly winced. Their gazes towards Peter now held a hint of pity. This was too harsh!
No one knew if being repeatedly stunned over a short period of time would have any long-term effects.
"How about it? Is this Peter Pettigrew?" Fudge asked with a hint of hope, looking at a tall, thin Auror beside him.
He hoped that this was all a mistake by Dumbledore, which would save him the headache of what to do next and tarnish Dumbledore's reputation.
"Yes, Minister! I have met Peter a few times and remember him well. I am eighty percent certain this is Peter Pettigrew!" The tall, thin Auror said after carefully examining Peter.
Though it had been over a decade since they last met, there weren’t many people who looked as distinctive as Peter, making it easy for him to recognize him.
Fudge looked somewhat disappointed, but then he remembered the Dark Mark mentioned in the reports. He personally pulled up Peter's sleeve.
Sure enough, on Peter's left arm was a clear, snake-like skull mark, vivid and lifelike.
