Chapter 440: Lupin's Decision
Chapter 440: Lupin's Decision
Fudge didn't stay in the Headmaster's Office for long and soon left with the two unconscious Death Eaters.
About half an hour later, the Dementors guarding the castle and Hogsmeade also received orders and withdrew.
There couldn't be better news than this.
Although most students didn't know what had happened, it didn't stop them from celebrating the departure of those annoying fellows, and the entire castle was filled with joy.
The day before the holiday, Kyle went to the school hospital to visit Professor Lupin, who was still recuperating.
Harry and the others were there, and a large black dog was crouching beside them... Madam Pomfrey stood nearby, staring at them with a scrutinizing gaze.
She couldn't understand why the Headmaster would allow students to bring pets here.
Professor Lupin lay in bed, his entire body wrapped in bandages, looking like a moving mummy.
Sirius was propped up on his hind legs, lying on the bedside, and was wagging his tail at Lupin with an ingratiating expression.
Seeing Professor Lupin's condition, Kyle also felt a bit embarrassed.
Strictly speaking, Professor Lupin's current state was also related to him.
That night, after the Phoenix brought the werewolf and Devilweb to the Headmaster's Office, he threw him to the side.
Perhaps it was because the story of Sirius and Peter was too captivating, and with the Devilweb blocking his mouth, the werewolf, unable to make a sound, was forgotten in the corner.
It wasn't until the next morning that the exhausted werewolf transformed back into Professor Lupin and fell into a coma, finally breaking free from the Devilweb and crashing to the floor with a loud bang.
It was this sound that alerted Sirius Black, who had been excitedly peering out the window all night, dreaming about his future life, to the presence of his old friend.
After being entangled for a night, even though the werewolf's body was sturdy, Professor Lupin had several broken bones when he was sent to the school hospital, and he was utterly exhausted. He had been recuperating until now and hadn't recovered.
As Kyle entered the school hospital, he just heard Harry asking about the incident that was spreading throughout the castle.
"I just met Malfoy..." Harry said anxiously, "He said you're a werewolf and will be expelled from school. Is that true?"
"Of course not." Lupin smiled, "I resigned voluntarily, I wasn't expelled."
"Why?" Harry asked, "Just because you're a werewolf?"
"Isn't that enough?" Lupin seemed calm.
"But besides us, no one should know your identity..."
"No, Harry!" Lupin shook his head, "In the school, there are many smart students like Kyle and Hermione who should have guessed my identity long ago."
"Malfoy must have spread the word, and Snape..." Harry said angrily, "Hermione said he had been hinting about you being a werewolf during his substitute teaching."
"That doesn't matter now, Harry."
Lupin smiled and said, "In the afternoon, an owl will deliver a letter from your parents... They wouldn't want a werewolf teaching their children... At least most parents wouldn't.
"And after last night's incident, I think they're right. I might have bitten you... This must never happen again."
"You can try planting the Devilweb in your office..." Ron suggested tentatively, "I think that should make most people agree."
Hearing Ron's words, Lupin felt his healed injuries starting to ache again.
Just then, Kyle had also reached the bedside.
"Ron's idea is good." He placed a large box of Honeyduke's candies on the cabinet beside the bed and smiled, "If needed, I can lend you that Devilweb."
"Never mind." Lupin quickly shook his head, "I can't handle it again, but Kyle, why do you carry such a dangerous plant with you..."
"It's just a coincidence.
"Kyle mumbled, "And I think Devilweb is quite safe."
Compared to the other plants in the box, Devilweb is already the least harmful, only slightly higher in status than White Fresh and Sweet Herb, which are ornamental plants.
Seeing that Kyle didn't want to speak, Lupin didn't ask further and instead said, "I've heard about the situation from Sirius, and I thank him on his behalf."
The large dog beside him also looked over with a grateful expression.
"I just gave a suggestion," Kyle said, waving his hand, "Besides, it's too early to thank me now. Let's wait until he completely clears his name."
"What are you talking about?" Harry asked suspiciously, "Is Sirius okay now?"
Lupin shook his head, not explaining.
This matter is currently in the confidential stage, and it's not appropriate to let Harry know. After nearly a year of interacting with Harry, Lupin also discovered that this child couldn't keep secrets.
So despite Harry's persistent inquiries, he didn't reveal anything.
In the end, Harry could only suppress the doubts in his heart and changed the topic.
"So, where are you going next?"
"I don't know," Lupin sighed, "It's difficult for a werewolf to find work..."
Sirius eagerly scratched his front paw, looking unusually excited.

He wanted to tell Lupin that he could stay with him after leaving Hogwarts.
But Lupin didn't even look at him and continued, "Maybe I'll go to the Wizard Examinations Authority... Because this year, the N.E.W.T. just tested the Patronus Charm, and the students' pass rate was exceptionally excellent. So Professor McGonagall approached me and explicitly asked if I wanted to go to the Wizard Examinations Authority.
"But I'm not sure if she knows my identity, and a werewolf might find it difficult to enter the Ministry of Magic."
Harry looked a bit dejected.
"Cheer up, it's fine," Lupin smiled, "I'm already used to it. I can even get the last month's salary from the school, and this money is enough for me to use."
"If you're interested, you can go see the Dragon Sanctuary in Romania," Kyle suddenly said.
"What?" Lupin looked at him.
"The Dragon Sanctuary," Kyle said, "No one there will care if you're a werewolf."
"Really?" Lupin's eyes lit up, and he said incredulously, "Aren't they afraid?"
"Do you think a group of people who deal with dragons and Dark Wizards every day would be afraid of a werewolf?"
Kyle continued, "Besides, this is actually an advantage for you. A werewolf who drinks the Wolfsbane Potion can do a lot of things, and having a werewolf can also scare away people with ill intentions.
I heard they've hired werewolves before, but because most of them had dishonest intentions and couldn't resist the temptation of dragon eggs, so they were fired soon after."
Lupin bowed his head in thought.
Sirius scratched his front paw even more eagerly, but no one paid attention.
Kyle continued, "Although it might be tough after you get there, especially during the full moon, and you might even have to face those dragons alone. But the dragon keepers' salary is quite attractive..."
Lupin fell into deep thought again.
It didn't matter if it was tough; he wasn't afraid of facing dragons, and the high salary was an irresistible temptation.
The only thing that made him hesitate was the long distance.
With so much he wanted to say to Sirius, and he really didn't want to travel so far away at this critical time.
Forget it, I'll consider finding work after Sirius's situation is cleared.
