Chapter 440: Epic Rank 2-Star
Chapter 440: Epic Rank 2-Star
District 3, at the ruins of the Holy Church Alliance.
A middle-aged man in his thirties or forties, dressed in coarse linen, squinted at the ruins before him.
There's a saying, right?
"The mountain is not a mountain!" Yes, the mountain is not a mountain! The scene before this middle-aged man's eyes held a similar meaning.
Others saw ruins, but he saw the birth of these ruins.
From Fei Yinghao's departure to the appearance of Li Wu's true self, to his foolish daughter being summoned and selling herself, only to be pulled back by him, and finally, Fei Yinghao's return.
He even witnessed how Li Wu plotted against Fei Yinghao through his clones and how Li Wu's true self went to kill Wood Old Man, even transforming into his appearance.
After clearly witnessing all of this, the old father couldn't help but gasp in shock.
He suddenly felt that the world was so complex and the path ahead so slippery. He yearned to return to the Holy Angel Sanctuary.
Indeed, he was truly astonished by Li Wu's methods.
Although everything before his eyes was hard to escape his gaze, his eyes seeing these things came at a significant cost.
He couldn't keep them open all the time.
If Li Wu were to fixate on him and plot against him, the old father felt he would suffer greatly.
"Wait, he's my daughter's Contractee. Shouldn't we consider him one of us?"
With this thought, the old father looked at Li Wu with newfound warmth.
"He's resourceful, capable, and quite skilled. Most importantly, he's not bad-looking, with a hint of my youthful charm. I just wonder how he treats his Contract Beast."
Initially, the old father wanted to slap Li Wu for daring to abduct his precious daughter.
But now, witnessing the situation firsthand, he realized it wasn't Li Wu who made the first move. In this matter, Li Wu was the passive one; it was his daughter who craved his body and initiated the contract.
This slightly improved the old father's impression of Li Wu.
Of course, all of this was based on one premise: this incident had already occurred, and his wife had found out.
Moreover, the incident was his fault, and most importantly, the contract was irreversible. Under these circumstances, the old father could only hope that Li Wu was a good person.
Yes, a genuinely good person in the literal sense.
He didn't ask for much, just that Li Wu treat his daughter well without reservation, cherish her like a treasure, and love her as much as they did.
Additionally, if Li Wu could become a eunuch, that would be even better in the old father's eyes.
The old father stroked his beard in contemplation.
"How about I find an opportunity to secretly castrate him?"
...
District 1, Changping Mystic Realm, at the Bone Burial Site.
Li Wu shuddered as he was forcibly pulled by Little Skull and pressed onto its skeletal frame, 'enjoying' the skeletal massage.
Little Skull (What's wrong? Is Little Skull's massage not comfortable?)
"Yes, it's very comfortable. You almost lifted my skull!
Honestly, Little Skull, my head doesn't hurt anymore. You don't need to massage me!"
(No, Little Skull must take care of Li Wu and give him a massage!)
The little guy's eyes glowed, determined to not give up.
He firmly held down Li Wu, who was trying to get up, onto his, or rather, its thigh bone, making Li Wu's head spin.
Little Skull's actions made Li Wu feel somewhat uncomfortable.
But in the end, Li Wu didn't struggle.
After a token resistance, he let the little guy do as he pleased.
Little Skull was delighted.
Mimicking the massage techniques he'd seen on TV, he carefully massaged Li Wu while asking,
"Does it feel good? Do you want to get a membership card? It feels like a spa here."
Li Wu almost couldn't resist asking if there was a treasure sword.
Little Skull's transformation was a recent development.
He sensed Li Wu's emotional changes during this time, and though he couldn't pinpoint the issue, he felt Li Wu was unhappy, sad, and troubled.
So, whenever Li Wu had free time, Little Skull would stick by his side, trying various methods to cheer him up.
His efforts were somewhat clumsy.
But he did succeed in relaxing Li Wu and comforting him.
It wasn't due to any innate talent but because he was the perfect remedy for Li Wu.
After all, it was the little guy who had been by Lu Wu's side since the beginning of his journey through the realms.
It was the pet he had nurtured and brought along on his adventures.
If Dudu was the human Lu Wu valued the most, then Little Skeleton was the being he cherished deeply.
Little Skeleton held a place in Lu Wu's heart that was not much lighter than Dudu's.
Especially after losing Dudu, Lu Wu became even more indulgent towards Little Skeleton.
This little guy was all Lu Wu had left now.
Before, where would Lu Wu have found the patience to cradle Little Skeleton's head on his knee? Was his mind broken? Wasn't cradling Index's head more appealing? Why cradle a little skeleton instead?
But now, Lu Wu felt surprisingly at ease beside Little Skeleton.
As he enjoyed the little skeleton's massage, Lu Wu opened his attribute panel.
...
Name: Li Wu
Strength: Epic Rank 2
Summon Beasts: Little Skeleton (Epic Rank 2), Hahah (Epic Rank 2), Little Golden Dragon (Epic Rank 2), Celestial Cloud Sword (Epic Rank 2), Holy Angel (Gray)
Primal Essence: 0
Epic Power: Panorama of All Existences
Description: With your thick eyebrows and big eyes, you've finally entered the attribute enhancement mode.
...
This is Li Wu's current strength.
He himself is at Epic Rank 2, and all his pets have also reached the standard of Epic Rank 2.
Just a few days ago, when he was attacked by Elder Mountain, his strength was merely at Epic Rank 1.
His pets are also at Epic Rank 2, and in just two days, they all advanced by one star.
Don't underestimate this small advancement; the difference between one star can be described as a world apart.
After all, they have already reached the Epic level, and each star represents a vast gap in strength.
This gap separates not only power but also time.
Tsuzuki Kougaku has the most to say about this.
After a fortuitous encounter, he advanced to Epic Rank 1, but then he was stuck at that level for over a hundred years.
For a hundred years, he made no progress, which is why he went crazy when he witnessed the God's Wrath.
Hmm, if Tsuzuki knew that Lu Wu had broken through the barrier that plagued him for over a century in just two days, and that he did it with his entire family in tow, he would probably be so jealous that he'd transform.
Of course, Lu Wu's advancement to Epic Rank 2 in two days seems simple.
But it's just an appearance.
How could they know that this was even simpler than it seemed?
Others struggle and fight to the death, collect materials, and risk their lives in mystic realms just to advance by one star.
Lu Wu, on the other hand, absorbed three Gateway Shards, gained Primal Essence, and it became even easier.
With the attribute points, he simply strengthened his weaknesses, and his power soared.
With three shards, Lu Wu's four pets all reached Epic Rank 2.
As they advanced, Lu Wu's strength naturally rose as well.
The entire process was ridiculously easy, and Lu Wu experienced the thrill of true power for the first time.
In a 6, 9, 1, 8, and 0 version!
This attribute-boosting power-up was much more satisfying than the previous system.
What's the need for studying or hard work?
Isn't this simple attribute boost good enough?
Indeed, like cross-dressing, once you start, you can't stop. Lu Wu was hooked after just one experience.
He was already planning that once he obtained Fei Yinghao's shard and resurrected Dudu, he would absorb the refined shard, which should be enough to boost his strength to Epic Rank 3.
Once he reached Epic Rank 3, Lu Wu would be at the apex of the Alliance, and he could move on to his next plan.
Lu Wu had no mercy in his heart. He wouldn't let those related to Dudu's resurrection off the hook.
The elders of Elder Mountain, the Zeroer, and Tie Hong—he wouldn't spare a single one of them.
As he looked at his attribute panel and contemplated the future, Lu Wu's head tilted to the side.
He had fallen asleep during Little Skeleton's massage!
The little skeleton, still massaging, noticed Lu Wu's deep slumber. Its skull eyes flickered, and then it cautiously checked the surroundings like a thief.
Satisfied that no one and no beast were around, the little guy's skull eyes lit up. It quickly took a blanket from Little Skeleton's phone and covered Lu Wu. Its skull eyes glowed with contentment.
Its familiarity with the act suggested it was a habitual offender.
(End of Chapter)
It was likely that someone had taken advantage of Lu Wu's slumber to carry out their plans.
...
As Lu Wu drifted into a sweet dream, on the other side, Little Golden Dragon was busy with its task.
The task at hand was a delivery, and the item it was delivering was the fragment Lu Wu had obtained from Elder Mountain.
Lu Wu had made preparations early on, and Little Golden Dragon waited in a lake near Elder Mountain. Once Lu Wu succeeded, the fragment would be sent to the dragon, who would then deliver it to Lu Wu via the waterways.
Lu Wu's plan seemed to be going smoothly.
Little Golden Dragon's delivery journey was also relatively uneventful.
Along the way, it attracted little attention, and it smoothly escaped the boundaries of Elder Mountain. It entered the waterways, traveling down the Immortal River, which was much wider, deeper, and more treacherous than the river from Lu Wu's previous life.
The Immortal River was home to countless Summoning Beast tribes, and every year, these beasts would create a ruckus. Unlike Lu Wu's previous life, the riverbanks were now unsuitable for human habitation.
There were no cities nearby, and Alliance institutions were sparse, only existing to suppress the Summoning Beasts of the river.
In essence, the Immortal River was the weakest area in terms of Alliance influence.
By taking this route, Little Golden Dragon could minimize the chances of being discovered by the Alliance and safely deliver the Gateway Shard to Lu Wu.
However, no path is ever completely safe.
Even the safest route can become dangerous due to human factors, as was the case now.
As Little Golden Dragon descended from Elder Mountain, it encountered a figure dressed in a black robe, emitting a powerful aura of malevolence.
"Well, well, you've noticed me, haven't you, you little minnow?"
The black-robed figure exuded an aura so potent that it could be ranked among the strongest Lu Wu had ever encountered.
To possess such an aura and remain calm before a powerful Epic Rank 2 creature like Little Golden Dragon hinted at the figure's identity.
"Such pure dragon breath, such formidable dragon aura, and a hint of time's essence. It seems you've had quite the adventure, haven't you? Was it you who helped Lu Wu reach Epic Rank 2?"
The black-robed figure continued, "I hear you're the one Lu Haikong left his son to. Quite the dedication for a father!"
As the figure spoke, it casually blocked Little Golden Dragon's breath with its hand.
The dragon, having expelled its breath, turned and fled, rushing towards the waterways. The black-robed figure raised an eyebrow and unleashed endless black chains, trapping the dragon. Just as it was about to be ensnared, Little Golden Dragon opened its mouth and spat out the fragment.
The black-robed figure's expression changed.
Realizing the fragment was a decoy, the figure abandoned its pursuit of Little Golden Dragon and dashed towards the fragment, grasping it in its hand.
Upon holding the fragment, the figure's brow furrowed in confusion.
"A fake?"
Little Golden Dragon responded with a burst of dragon breath.
"You little rascal!"
The black-robed figure chuckled, ensnaring Little Golden Dragon with the chains. With a black fist, it struck the dragon, severely injuring it and forcing out the true fragment.
The figure's face lit up as it realized the fragment was genuine.
Just as it was about to strike the dragon, another presence interfered, causing the black-robed figure to hesitate and release the fragment, turning to leave.
Meanwhile, in the Longping Mystic Realm, Lu Wu opened his eyes, having sensed the disturbance. His expression was not one of concern but rather held a hint of cold amusement.
"A casually discarded bait, and it managed to catch a fish!"
