Chapter 44: The Yang Lightning Technique Is Unsuitable for Luk's Constitution
Chapter 44: The Yang Lightning Technique Is Unsuitable for Luk's Constitution
Luk walked into the old Celestial Master's room and found it quite crowded.
Apart from the old Celestial Master sitting on the central couch, there was also the elderly Tian Jinzhong in his wheelchair, and Zhang Lingyu standing nearby.
"Grandmaster, what did you call me here for?"
Respecting his elders, Luk bowed respectfully to the old Celestial Master and Tian Jinzhong. As for Zhang Lingyu, he merely gave a casual salute and moved on.
When Luk's parents were killed and he was sent to Dragon Tiger Mountain by the company, he was only about seven or eight years old. The senior disciples and masters on the mountain took good care of this orphaned child.
His senior brothers often took time to guide him, and the old Celestial Master, in a rare show of favoritism, exempted him from the mundane tasks that secular disciples had to do, allowing him to focus on his cultivation.
Because of this, Luk had a deep affection for Dragon Tiger Mountain and always respected his elders.
Zhang Lingyu had also guided him a couple of times, but due to his high rank, they rarely saw each other, making their relationship a bit more distant compared to his peers.
Luk's main issue with Zhang Lingyu stemmed from being beaten by him in the past. Zhang Lingyu was very upright and proper, always adhering to etiquette and even holding back during sparring matches. Luk couldn't find any faults to pick with him.
But things had changed now.
What faults could he find? There was nothing to pick at; if someone annoyed him, even their breathing seemed to pollute the air!
It wasn't that Luk truly harbored deep resentment towards Zhang Lingyu; he just needed an outlet for his frustration. Why should he suffer when he could make Zhang Lingyu suffer a bit?
After all, Zhang Lingyu was a good person and would keep his feelings bottled up.
The old Celestial Master gestured for Luk to come closer. "Come, come closer and let your Grandmaster take a look at you. It's been over a year since we last met, and I wanted to catch up. I had to invite you here myself."
"Not at all," Luk smiled as he walked over. "I was planning to come anyway. Grandmaster, you and I are on the same wavelength."
He then turned to Tian Jinzhong. "It's been over a year since we last met, and you still look so robust, Grandmaster Tian. I bet your meditation has improved even further."
"Heh, these days, I don't have much else to do besides meditate. As a crippled old man, I can only hope to find inner peace," Tian Jinzhong smiled warmly.
"But you, young Luk, have had quite a bit of good fortune. When I heard you won the preliminary trials and became the dark horse of the competition, I didn't believe it. If not for Old Luk's confirmation, I wouldn't have believed it."
"Mainly because my opponents were too weak. If they were all as skilled as Uncle Lingyu, they could have lasted a few moves against me."
Zhang Lingyu: "..."
Tian Jinzhong: "..."
This kid is pretty arrogant, isn't he?
The old Celestial Master remained silent, smiling as he brewed two cups of tea. He pushed one towards Luk and took a sip from the other.
A supreme master brewing tea for him?
Luk raised an eyebrow, unsure what the old Celestial Master was up to.
"Was it inconvenient to call you here at this time?"
"Not at all, Grandmaster. Whenever you call, I am always available," Luk pretended to remove the tea leaves with the lid.
"You seem to have a lot of heart fire and emotional turmoil, looking quite anxious. Did I interrupt something important?"
"Pfft!"
Luk sprayed out the tea he was drinking, coughed a couple of times, and felt a bit of toothache. How could these qi cultivators diagnose so accurately, even picking up on his hidden feelings?
But since the topic was out in the open, he decided to be straightforward. "Grandmaster, your call means I can't attend my evening Daoist lecture. I'm really uncomfortable, so if you have something to say, please say it directly. I'll do my best to help, and then I'll hurry back to see if I can still make it!"
Hearing Luk's words, Zhang Lingyu, who had been expressionless, couldn't hold back and scolded him in a low voice. "What are you saying in front of Master! Such vulgar language is not appropriate for speaking to elders!"
"Romance is a natural part of human life," Luk retorted without backing down. "Daoism follows nature, and humans are just one of the many living beings in the universe. When we are hungry, we eat; when we are thirsty, we drink; when we are tired, we rest. These are all normal physiological needs."
"You..."
"What? What are you going to do? I'm a young, virile man. Finding a compatible woman to experience the profound mysteries of yin and yang, what's wrong with that?"
”
Luk added, “I don’t even want the Five Yang Thunder.”
This statement was a killing blow.
Seeing the Five Yang Thunder, which he had always yearned for, dismissed by Luk as if it were worthless, Zhang Lingyu felt his heart, which had just calmed down, become chaotic once again.
He gritted his teeth and reminded himself not to lose composure in front of his elders, managing to hold back his anger.
The Old Celestial Master, however, remained unperturbed. He sipped his tea slowly, then placed the cup down. “Little Luk, are you really not interested in our Dragon Tiger Mountain’s Five Yang Thunder? It’s dazzling and the purest form of yang energy. Every generation of Celestial Masters has cultivated the Five Yang Thunder.”
“Why would I get it just because I want it?” Luk was taken aback for a moment, then he smiled. “If the Old Master is willing to give it to me, of course I’ll take it.”
Zhang Lingyu’s face turned pale, and he clenched his fists.
If the Old Celestial Master were to pass the Five Yang Thunder to Luk, it would mean that the Old Master recognized Luk as a potential Celestial Master, perhaps even more so than Zhang Lingyu, who cultivated the Five Yin Thunder. This meant that Luk and Zhang Chulan were more likely to be recognized as the successors by the Daoist community.
While he wasn’t particularly concerned about being the Celestial Master, the thought of disappointing his master troubled him deeply.
“The Five Yin Thunder and the Five Yang Thunder cannot coexist. Do you want the Five Yang Thunder or the Five Yin Thunder?” The Old Celestial Master glanced at Zhang Lingyu, who was lost in negative emotions, and added a subtle hint.
“Your spirit and essence are stable, and your yang energy is intact. Cultivating the Five Yang Thunder would be more suitable for you right now.”
Zhang Lingyu looked up at Luk, his lips trembling. “You’re still a virgin?”
“Say that one more time!”
Luk rolled his eyes. “If the Old Master hadn’t called me here, I wouldn’t be now.”
“Then you and Xia… that person…” Zhang Lingyu almost blurted out Xia He’s name but caught himself just in time, swallowing it back.
“I don’t date girls who’ve been with other men. Hookups are a different story. I wouldn’t mind hooking up with Xia He, but I haven’t run into her yet,” Luk said casually.
Zhang Lingyu, however, didn’t hold back and blurted out Xia He’s name.
This dramatic scene had Old Master Tian Jinzhong on the sidelines feeling his years of cultivation being tested.
The Old Celestial Master, however, chuckled good-naturedly, ignoring the mention of Xia He’s name, and asked Luk, “So you’re sure you want to choose the Five Yin Thunder?”
“The Five Yang Thunder, which doesn’t let you teach female disciples until you’ve achieved great success, who wants it?” Luk replied firmly.
Zhang Lingyu, still in a state of surprise, blurted out, “But the Five Yin Thunder isn’t suitable for a Celestial Master.”
“I don’t plan on becoming a Celestial Master. If the Old Master is willing to help me get the Heavenly Scroll from Old Master Lu, I’d be happy to step down,” Luk said, then added, “Besides, who becomes the Celestial Master is decided by the Old Master, not by the cultivation method of the Five Thunder Techniques.”
Hearing this, Zhang Lingyu was stunned. His long-held beliefs clashed with his current thoughts. He closed his eyes tightly, his face showing signs of struggle, and his qi flow became chaotic.
“This…” Old Master Tian was a bit anxious, but seeing that Luk and the Old Celestial Master were taking it in stride, he didn’t intervene.
After a moment, Zhang Lingyu’s qi flow returned to normal. He opened his eyes, and a serene and pure light shone in them, transforming his entire demeanor.
“Thank you, Master, for your guidance.”
Zhang Lingyu knelt before the Old Celestial Master and bowed three times.
Then he stood up, straightened his clothes, and bowed deeply to Luk.
“Thank you, Brother Luk, for your guidance. I am deeply grateful. If you ever need anything, I will not hesitate to help.”
“Just a little push for the Old Master’s sake. When we meet in a match, I’ll still beat you into hiding.”
Zhang Lingyu: “A match should be fought with all one’s might…”
“Then how about you lend me Xia He for a couple of days and nights?”
Zhang Lingyu: “…”
This cultivation seemed to have no effect at all!
PS: The latest chapters have seen the Eight Unique Techniques being strengthened again by Mr. Mi Er.
This version is way too unbalanced!
