Chapter 436: The Knight of Mirrors
Chapter 436: The Knight of Mirrors
"The ritual spell, 'Orichalcum Reflective Mirror'!" the Judge declared. "By tributing monsters from my hand and field with a total Level of 6 or more, I ritual summon 'The Knight of Mirrors' from my deck!" (Original Card)
The Judge sent one card from his hand to the graveyard.
"By tributing 'Time Devourer' from my hand, which has a Level of 6, I special summon 'The Knight of Mirrors'!"
A prism-like monster appeared on the field, reflecting clear and crystalline light. It had a bizarre appearance and didn't seem to possess any combat prowess.
【The Knight of Mirrors: ATK 0 → ATK 500】
"When 'The Knight of Mirrors' is successfully summoned, I can special summon any number of 'The Knight of Mirrors' tokens on my field," the Judge explained.
A faint smile played on the Judge's lips. "And 'Orichalcum-Torrington' inherits the effects of the first two barriers. Do you remember one of the effects of the first barrier?"
"The Monster and Spell/Trap Zones are shared," You Xuan stated.
"Correct." The Judge raised his arm high. "So, I have up to eight more zones available for summoning monsters! I special summon eight 'The Knight of Mirrors' tokens!"
The towering prism reflected an eerie arc of light, which split into eight beams and landed in the eight empty zones in front and behind him.
Each beam transformed into a knight clad in medieval armor, holding a chilling longsword in one hand and a square shield in the other. The surface of the shield was smooth as a mirror, clearly reflecting the opponent's field, including You Xuan and the Twin Dragons he controlled.
【The Knight of Mirrors Tokens: ATK 0 → ATK 500 x8】
Xiang Lu was stunned. "He summoned eight monsters in one go?"
What kind of card defied logic like this!?
You Xuan remained silent, but his thoughts raced. So, there really are fake cards in the Orichalcum arc. The number of overpowered cards in this arc of the anime is countless.
Of course, some of the cards that players once thought would never be released have slowly made their way into the game over time.
So, even though the remaining unreleased cards seem outrageous, there's still a chance that Konami might suddenly remember them one day, add a restriction, and release them.
"The strongest enemy a Duelist will ever face is themselves, and no one is exempt from this," the Judge said. "And the Knight of Mirrors is the embodiment of the reflective mirror that reveals the truth within."
With a wave of his hand, the Judge continued, "Now, 'Orichalcum-Torrington' activates its effect inherited from the second barrier, allowing me to absorb life from my own monsters!
Once per turn, I can regain 500 life points for each monster I control."
Everyone was taken aback.
"Oh no, he has ten monsters on the field now."
"Indeed," the Judge said calmly. "So, I regain 5000 life points."
【Judge: LP 4000 → LP 9000】
You Xuan furrowed his brows slightly.
Life points: 9000.
"I set two cards in my Spell/Trap Zones and then proceed to the Battle Phase." The Judge raised his hand. "First, I attack with the first 'The Knight of Mirrors' token." He pointed at the "Electronic Twin Dragon."
Yusei's heart tightened. "Attacking with only 500 attack points?"
But then he realized something. "No, wait, it's not 500 attack points. The 500 boost is from the barrier's effect, which means the token originally had 0 attack points."
And as everyone knew, monsters with 0 attack points were the true overpowered cards.
Sure enough, the Judge continued, "During battle with an opponent's monster, 'The Knight of Mirrors' token can copy the attack points of that monster.
'Electronic Twin Dragon' has an attack of 2800, so 'The Knight of Mirrors' also takes on that attack value."
Summoning eight monsters at once, each with the ability to replicate their opponent's attack strength..." Yugi Muto quickly responded, "I activate a Continuous Trap, 'Dimensional Guardian'! By selecting one monster on my field, as long as this card remains in play, that monster cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects."
This was one of the three Red-Eyes B. Dragon cards that Yugi used in the movie to create an infinite loop and defeat Blue God.
"I use 'Dimensional Guardian' to protect 'Electronic Twin Dragon.' As long as this card is active, the Twin Dragon cannot be destroyed by any means," Yugi explained.
The Mirror Knight leaped forward, sword flashing, but its attack was deflected by the transparent protective barrier. The recoil force pushed the knight backward, failing to strike the true form of the Twin Dragon.
"Excellent! Now the Twin Dragon is invincible!" Yusei Fudo declared, "And with matching Attack Points, if we can't destroy it, then the only one who will be defeated is the Mirror Knight!"
As expected, the Twin Dragon retaliated against the attack, its electronic body crackling with electricity. The currents surged into its mouth, transforming into a dazzling evolutionary flame that burst forth!
Just as the Mirror Knight was about to be engulfed by the flame, it suddenly raised its left arm, using the mirror-like shield in its hand to block the attack. The evolutionary flame struck the mirror's surface, holding it at bay for a moment before shattering the mirrored shield into pieces, yet the knight itself remained unharmed.
"The Mirror Knight wasn't defeated?" Akiza Izinski furrowed her brow.
The Judge explained coldly, "The Mirror Knight can use its shield as a substitute to block destruction once."
To describe it in proper K-language, the shields held by these Mirror Knights should be considered "Shield Counters." When these knights are destroyed, they can remove one counter as a substitute.
"By the way, 'The Call of the Mirror Knight' has another effect. Once per turn, I can repair the shields of all Mirror Knights on my field that have had their shields broken." The Judge stated.
"Such outrageous abilities!?" Akiza was stunned.
The Mirror Knights could replicate the Attack Points of their opponent's battle monsters and use their shields to block destruction during combat. Moreover, the broken shields could be repaired once per turn.
And there were eight of these Mirror Knights on the field.
With just these eight knights, they were already close to invincible!?
Both Akiza and Yusei realized more than ever that this opponent had barely exerted himself in his previous duels against Red Leaf and Yusei. His true strength was unfathomable, and he was indeed no ordinary duelist.
Only Kaiba remained calm and collected. After all, they had encountered the Mirror Knights before and had also suffered a significant setback.
There was even a time when Dartz had captured the souls of Yugi, Pegasus, Becklas, and Isis and sealed them inside several Mirror Knights, taking them hostage and preventing Atem from making a move. It was Kaiba who eventually broke through that impasse.
Compared to their past encounter, the situation Yugi was facing now was not as dire.
However, back then, Atem and Kaiba had teamed up against Dartz, while Yugi was now facing the Judge in a one-on-one duel. Without teammates to rely on or support from the sidelines, Yugi was at a disadvantage in that regard.
Although Kaiba was not on the dueling stage, he couldn't help but imagine himself in Yugi's position as he watched the duel unfold. Despite their recent competition, his dueling spirit stirred restlessly within him.
"The battle continues," the Judge said in a hoarse voice. "The second 'Mirror Knight Token' attacks 'Electronic Twin Dragon.'"
"Huh!?"
Ryuzaburo "Ryuo" Otogi was taken aback, surprised by the Judge's move.
Even knowing that the attack would be meaningless, he still chose to attack?
