Chapter 433: Lanchi's Tutelage Expands Once More
Chapter 433: Lanchi's Tutelage Expands Once More
The yearning for an answer was evident in Sinora's eyes, but the Great Lover Poet did not refuse to meet her gaze, nor did he dismiss her.
"Perhaps you are right, but perhaps that would only mark the beginning of another calamity," he said. "Even if the Demon Tribe regains their status by conquering the Protoss Empire, their desires will soon go unfulfilled. They will occupy their respective territories and begin to expand their influence."
"And in the next step, they will invade the territories of other nations. You understand this process better than I do." The Great Lover Poet spoke with a calm demeanor, narrating a story.
Sinora fell silent for a moment, contemplating the alternative possibility that he presented. It was a scenario she understood all too well and had witnessed firsthand.
"Because that is the history that already exists, and it will happen again," the Great Lover Poet added.
"But who's to say that this will definitely happen? We've already missed one opportunity. With the lessons of the past, wouldn't it be better for you to rule over us?" Sinora asked, her hand on her chest, her voice slightly agitated as she presented her argument once more.
As a conservative, she despised the previous generation of demons who insisted on waging war to the bitter end. What she had longed for was a new king, one who could see through everything as clearly as the one standing before her! Her gaze held a hint of resentment.
What she hoped to never see was a king who possessed the ability but lacked the courage to shoulder the responsibility.
"When you are prepared to sacrifice yourself, it becomes easier to sacrifice others as well. This applies to both you and me. So, what kind of leader do you expect me to be?" The Great Lover Poet, as if reading Sinora's thoughts, remained unhurried and asked his question.
"..." Sinora was taken aback by his words, her mind going blank as she involuntarily swallowed her saliva.
She realized that she might have been a bit presumptuous and that her attitude was somewhat contradictory.
Of course, she wanted the new king to be a leader who could empathize with his subjects.
Yet, she also yearned for him to possess unwavering resolve.
This was a greedy and unfair demand.
However, the Great Lover Poet did not seem offended by her attitude. He gave her time to reflect and did not intend to evade the genuine question she had posed earlier.
"According to what you've said, even if I were to control the Demon Tribe, the vast majority of other creatures would not complain about having too many resources and pleasures. Once they gain power, they may resort to all kinds of means, whether ruthless or cloaked in moral righteousness, to plunder our resources. In that case, should I then expand my rule and ultimately conquer the world?" The Great Lover Poet continued, "If you were faced with such a situation, what would you choose?"
A smile played on his lips.
"I... don't know," Sinora replied, her gaze shifting away, then dimming as she couldn't come up with an answer to Lanchi's question.
She couldn't comprehend the thoughts of this demon who possessed the qualifications to become the new king. He seemed to understand the nature of creatures and the rules that governed the world far better than she did.
The more she communicated with him, the more she felt she was taking a significant step closer to the truth. Yet, the more she learned and thought about it, the more she realized how much she didn't know.
A prolonged silence hung between them.
"Humans always imagine the future, but that future should actually be a source of fear," the Great Lover Poet said, his emerald green irises glowing with a gentle light as if he had long pondered this deeply. "However, most humans do not feel afraid because they cannot grasp the underlying significance, and the same goes for the Demon Tribe."
"Then, are we not doomed to do nothing... Is there any difference between this stagnation and being imprisoned?" Sinora asked, certain that she couldn't find a conclusion at this moment.
She was in a state of utmost confusion.
While she had steadfastly held on to her beliefs, she now questioned if they were truly right, yet she couldn't pinpoint what was truly right either.
"..."
"Do not dwell too much on the past, nor overly anticipate the future. The past is gone, and the future has yet to arrive. Now—" The Great Lover Poet savored the sliver of warm light that fell into the prison cell, a faint smile on his lips as he paused.
"Seize the present, for the now is the most important."
"When he looked at Sinora once more, he had only one last sentence.
'And I will give you the best present.'
Each word from the Great Lover Poet struck Sinora's heart like the heaviest key on a piano.
Silence filled the prison cell.
Sinora stood in the shadows, her head lowered.
'I need some time to process what you've said... I might understand, or I might not...' She paused, her mind in turmoil. 'I need time to think.'
Is it really okay to just let go of the past, break free from the future, and start anew?"
Sinora felt a sense of self-reproach, as if she were betraying the Demon Tribe.
Anastas, standing on the other side, remained silent. She could sense that Sinora's determination was wavering.
She had been pleased to hear the sincere answer given by the young man beside her to Sinora's initial question about the restoration of their nation, without any attempt at deception.
Now, she just felt exasperated.
In just a few minutes of conversation, Sinora seemed to have been mentally dominated.
Anastas didn't know why, but there was something uniquely enchanting about the young man beside her, as if he had the power to conquer others' hearts and minds directly.
The currently bewildered Sinora was almost there; she just needed a little something more to make her take that final step and make a decision that went against everything she had previously believed.
What was that missing piece?
Seeming to notice Sinora's daze and Anastas' idle stance, the Great Lover Poet turned to engage Anastas in conversation, giving Sinora time to reflect.
"To be honest, whenever I think of Talia living a happy and fulfilling life, I can't help but feel sad for the suffering you've endured in Helrom Prison all these years." The Great Lover Poet whispered to Anastas.
Sinora's ears twitched, and she stared intently at the Great Lover Poet, her eyes wide.
Was Talia truly happy?
From the appearance of this black-haired, green-eyed young girl, her father must be exceptionally talented and handsome. After all, it would take someone extraordinary to capture Talia's heart.
"If Miss Sinora hadn't wasted these past hundred years, she would undoubtedly be living a better life than Talia. After all, Miss Sinora is so much more outstanding in every way, and she's clearly the type of woman who would be beloved by all. If she had to stay locked up for another hundred years... ah..."
The Great Lover Poet shook his head in dismay.
"..."
Sinora's delicate shoulders trembled.
Thinking about how she had spent the last hundred years in prison, wasting precious time and missing countless opportunities to enjoy life, she couldn't help but feel jealous of Talia.
"This... is..."
She finally spoke up, her voice laced with envy and frustration. "What about Talia's husband? What must he be like?"
"Is something the matter, Miss Sinora?" The Great Lover Poet tilted his head in confusion.
"Let's go! I want to seize the present, and I refuse to waste another second!" Sinora declared resolutely, her eyes shining with a desire for happiness. She believed that the new king had the power to make this promise come true, and his ideas and beliefs were absolutely correct.
Although she had not seen the new king's true form, she no longer cared. What she believed in was the beautiful soul with whom she had communicated.
She had never imagined that she would encounter someone so worthy of her loyalty. Even though she still had doubts, she was certain of one thing: every moment she spent in communication with him was valuable. Without his guidance, she feared she would stray down the wrong path again and waste her life.
"Excellent." The Great Lover Poet smiled.
He felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing he had guided yet another lost young woman toward the right path.
"..."
Anastas' eyes twitched. After witnessing the entire exchange, she subtly moved a little further away from the Great Lover Poet, feeling that there was something off about him.
"Do you have some kind of mind-control ability? At this rate, you'll end up brainwashing the entire Protoss Empire. Sinora's initial request was already too conservative, and what you're doing is truly that of a Protoss Evil God."
