Chapter 432: Jerry's Conditions (Second Update)
Chapter 432: Jerry's Conditions (Second Update)
In the cockpit of the marauder ship.
"Hey, Jerry, you finally decided to come out of your room!"
After the ship passed through the spatial jump point, Star-Lord saw Jerry approaching and immediately unbuckled his seatbelt to stand up.
After spending some time together, the incredibly thick-skinned Star-Lord had become very familiar with Jerry and started calling Jerry by name, no longer referring to him as "Mr. Carmen."
Star-Lord realized that as long as he didn't deliberately provoke Jerry, Jerry had a very good temper. Sometimes, even when he made jokes, Jerry didn't mind.
However, whenever Jerry saw Star-Lord now, he couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable.
Because Jerry couldn't help but think of Star-Lord's nicknames: "The man who can punch out Avengers 4" and "A god-like body rivaling mortals."
As someone with a Celestial bloodline, Star-Lord would have been taken down by one of Thanos's least significant minions in Avengers 4 if not for Gamora's rescue.
"Jerry, why are you looking at me like that?"
Seeing that Jerry wasn't answering and was instead giving him a strange look, Star-Lord felt a bit confused.
Jerry smiled.
"Nothing, just think you should work out more. Your belly is starting to show. Be careful, or Gamora might not find you attractive anymore."
As Jerry and Star-Lord were joking around, a gray planet appeared directly in front of the ship.
It was Contraxia, the gathering place for marauders and all sorts of galactic outlaws.
About ten minutes later, the ship broke through Contraxia's atmosphere and landed in a city filled with neon lights.
Contraxia is a gray planet that has been in a perpetual state of icy cold due to the depletion of its solar energy. The planet has no significant resources, but it is a hub of immense wealth.
It is home to countless marauders, bounty hunters, fugitives, black market traders, and various forms of entertainment that wouldn't exist on law-abiding planets.
Here, the law of the jungle prevails. If you're a naive newcomer, you'll be devoured without a trace.
As the ship landed, Jerry, Yondu, Star-Lord, and the others walked into the neon-lit city covered in snow.
The sky of Contraxia is always dark and gloomy, making it impossible to distinguish between day and night.
However, walking through the city, one could see people everywhere holding bottles, drinking, dancing, and partying.
There were almost no ordinary people; most were dressed in various protective suits, with obvious weapons at their waists or on their bodies, ready for battle at any moment.
Additionally, there were few who looked similar, as they mostly came from different planets, and for many, their home planets no longer existed. They were among the last of their kind in the universe.
Like Rocket's companion, Groot, who is currently the only one of his kind left in the universe.
"Jerry, what do you think about joining the Guardians of the Galaxy? You said you wanted to travel through space. Why not join us? You'd have company!"
Amidst the partying crowd, Star-Lord grinned and approached Jerry.
With money, charisma, and strength, if he could recruit Jerry to the Guardians of the Galaxy, they would have free rein in the universe. And with Jerry on board, the Guardians would undoubtedly become famous throughout the cosmos.
Jerry looked at Star-Lord and smiled slightly.
"Sure thing!"
"Don't be so quick to refuse... Wait, you actually agreed!"
Star-Lord had intended to persuade Jerry a bit more, but to his surprise, Jerry's response was not a refusal as usual, but an acceptance. This left Star-Lord somewhat taken aback.
After all, since leaving that red planet, he had invited Jerry three times, and each time, Jerry had turned him down.
"I can join, but there's a condition!"
Jerry continued.
Star-Lord immediately jumped up:
"The captain of the ship can only be me! You can be the first mate at most!"
"That's not what I meant. I have no interest in being the captain, and I'm not interested in being the first mate either."
Jerry smirked:
"I can join your Guardians of the Galaxy as a regular member, but you have to take me to Earth first."
"Earth?"
Star-Lord hesitated after hearing this. He hadn't returned to his home planet, Earth, in years, mainly because his beloved mother had died of cancer when he was taken away, leaving a deep emotional scar.
"Aren't you really afraid, like Yondu said?"
Jerry deliberately goaded him.
Star-Lord immediately put on a dismissive expression:
"Me, afraid? I'm no coward. Once you pay up, we'll go to Earth!"
Hearing Star-Lord agree, Jerry nodded in satisfaction.
Initially, he had no intention of joining Star-Lord's so-called Guardians of the Galaxy. It held no significance for him. His original plan was to travel the universe alone, which was more convenient.
But he changed his mind because he knew that Star-Lord's father, Ego, was a Celestial, a planet with self-awareness, and a potential source of a vast number of red stars before Thanos snapped his fingers.
Star-Lord's father, Ego, was planning to assimilate all the planets he had visited, turning them into his avatars to gain power beyond the universe and achieve his goal of ruling the cosmos. When that happened, the number of deaths would be no less than those caused by Thanos's snap.
If he could eliminate Ego during the execution of this plan, he would save the lives of all the beings on the planets controlled by Ego's avatars. The Panel would definitely reward him with an enormous amount of red stars.
However, based on the scene in the movie where Ego casually destroyed a fleet of advanced Sovereign Battle Ships, he currently lacked the confidence to take Ego down.
Fortunately, due to his presence, Star-Lord never touched the Power Stone, and the incident where Ronan invaded Xandar with the Power Stone never occurred.
Ego probably still doesn't know about Star-Lord's existence. He might even think that Star-Lord, like the countless other children he killed, did not inherit his god-like powers.
So, if Jerry could convince Star-Lord to stay on Earth for a while and avoid causing a stir in the universe that might alert Ego, things would be fine.
Similarly, he could bring Gamora to Earth to prevent Thanos from taking her to exchange for the Soul Stone.
With the Ancient One and Odin watching over Earth, Ego and Thanos would likely think twice before causing trouble there.
In a few years, when the Ancient One passes the mantle of the Sorcerer Supreme to Doctor Strange and wanders the multiverse, and Odin dies of old age, with some effort, his strength should not be far behind theirs.
This is the perfect time to return to Earth. If he moves quickly, he might even catch the Sokovia Incident and earn a significant amount of red stars.
For now, there are only two of us. I'll adjust my state tonight and outline the plan.
