Chapter 432: Harvesting Ankheg Flowers
Chapter 432: Harvesting Ankheg Flowers
Su Yu was quite satisfied with his trip to the Kingdom of Teyvat.
Morningstar, his cat, had a rare opportunity to advance to the peak of the Seventh Tier; he obtained four Emperor-level Souls of the Departed, a Sixth Tier Legendary-quality cloak, and a couple of blueprints for wondrous structures. It was a bountiful harvest indeed!
He could hear Morningstar purring contentedly in the pet space. Su Yu smiled and set off again, preparing to head back to his home.
However, after flying for two minutes, he didn't continue toward the Golden Finch Continent. Instead, he made a 90-degree turn in the air and flew northwest toward the Anju Continent, where the Empire of Lyon was located.
Morningstar, noticing the change in direction, asked curiously, "Kexing, where are we going? Aren't we going back to see Aijie?"
Su Yu shook his head. "Not yet. There's no rush to return Master Chen Sheng's gift. I just contacted the Snow Leopard, and we're heading to the Anju Continent to harvest Ankheg Flowers. Many interdimensional adventurers have already arrived there and started working, so we should join them."
"Alright," Morningstar didn't object and continued to hug the Star Trace Eye, contentedly grinning in the pet space.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at a primeval forest in the Jones Mountains on the southwestern border of the Empire of Lyon.
The trees in this primeval forest were incredibly dense, with towering giants reaching heights of dozens of meters. Their massive canopies blocked out the sky, making the forest dark even during the day.
"Range is Truth," the team led by Old Li, consisting of 73 members, was making their way through the forest.
When they first entered the forest, their team had 100 members. However, within half an hour, even without any major battles, more than twenty of his teammates were killed by unknown insects, plants, and small animals. Now, only three-quarters of the original team remained.
"Everyone, please stay alert at all times!" Old Li, his eyes scanning the surroundings, sent a message in the temporary chat room: "Be cautious of the plants, animals, especially insects. Keep an eye on your health bars, and if you notice a sudden drop, call for help immediately."
"Additionally, everyone must protect the 'guide' at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing yourself, ensure the guide's absolute safety. Understand?"
Old Li's "guide" referred to the native NPC walking at the center of the team.
These NPCs were villagers from the nearby mountains, well-versed in the forest's terrain and the locations of Ankheg Flowers.
Without them, Old Li's team would never find the Ankheg Flowers, so their protection was crucial.
"Understood."
"Got it."
"Roger."
The captains of each ten-member squad responded in the chat room.
Old Li, relying on the high mobility of his archer class, patrolled around the team. After confirming there were no major issues, he returned to the center of the group and asked one of the NPC guides, "Uncle Carter, are the Ankheg Flowers nearby?"
"Of course, adventurer," Uncle Carter, holding a steel knife and vigilantly observing the surroundings, replied to Old Li. "I saw a cluster of Ankheg Flowers here two years ago, about a kilometer ahead. See that hill? Once we cross it, we'll be there."
Uncle Carter pointed to a small hill ahead. "Ankheg Flowers prefer to grow on the shaded side of hills."
"Thank you, Uncle Carter," Old Li nodded and said in the chat room, "Everyone, stay alert! We have one kilometer left to cross the hill and reach our destination. Keep an eye out for monsters along the way!"
"Understood."
"Understood."
"Understood."
The squad leaders responded once more, each ensuring their teams were in line as they continued forward.
But just then—
Roar!
A loud, resounding roar echoed from ahead, reminiscent of a dragon's cry.
The NPC guides immediately paled.
In hushed, terrified voices, they exclaimed, "It's a Wyvern, it's the cry of a Wyvern! We need to retreat quickly!"
The Wyvern is a sub-species of dragons, known for its massive size and formidable strength. In the forest, it reigns at the top of the food chain.
Guide Uncle Carter tugged anxiously at Old Li's sleeve. "The fragrance of the Ankheg Flower must have attracted the Wyvern. We need to leave now!"
"A Wyvern, huh?" Old Li's expression turned serious. "Let's go and check it out."
Guide Uncle Carter immediately clung to him. "Are you mad, adventurer? The Wyvern's roar is a warning. If you insist on moving forward, you'll die here!"
Old Li smiled calmly. "Don't worry, Uncle Carter. We never intended to return alive. Xiao Liu, take a squad and escort Uncle Carter and the others back the way we came. Be careful on the way!"
"Yes, sir!" A young warrior named Grenade saluted and led his squad to surround the NPC guides.
Old Li waved to the others. "Everyone, follow me! If the Wyvern attacks, we'll scatter and rush toward the flowers. Even if we die, we must get those flowers!"
"Understood!" Everyone followed Old Li's lead.
They climbed the hill ahead, and the scene below became clear.
Through the gaps in the trees, they saw that indeed, five or six Ankheg Flowers grew on the shaded slope. Two of them were already in full bloom, while the others were still in bud.
Behind the Ankheg Flower patch, a deep brown Wyvern, over 10 meters long, lay beside the flowers, sniffing the air and seemingly quite content.
However, it also sensed the players who had disturbed its tranquility. Anger flared in its nostrils, and it breathed fire, its massive presence pushing against Old Li and his team, trying to drive them away.
But Old Li and his companions stood firm.
"Brothers, charge!" Old Li shouted, using the Slide skill to slide toward the Ankheg Flower patch.
The Slide skill provided a significant boost when used downhill or against fierce beasts, allowing him to move at incredible speed, like riding a roller coaster.
The other non-hunter players, lacking the Slide skill, used their own methods.
Some used Goblin Rocket Boots, others used Goblin Glider Wings, some rode small flying mounts, ice mages created ice slides, and earth mages dug tunnels underground.
They dispersed, each moving as quickly as possible toward the flower patch.
...
The Wyvern was momentarily stunned.
The players were fast and spread out. Some flew, some ran, and some even tunneled through the earth. As a single dragon, it couldn't possibly stop them all.
But it had to try.
Roar!
The Wyvern reared its head and unleashed a blast of fiery breath at the densest group of players, sending a wave of white light through the area as players were incinerated.
With its wings as hard as steel, it swept through the players near it, instantly killing them.
But the players' greatest advantage was their fearlessness. They ignored the ferocious Wyvern, focusing solely on the flowers.
