Chapter 432: Exposing Peter Pettigrew
Chapter 432: Exposing Peter Pettigrew
When Dumbledore directly named the man, the Young Wizards on the scene were instantly panic-stricken.
However, thinking that the person the Dark Lord feared the most was standing on the platform, they felt much more at ease and began to speculate about who the despicable traitor might be.
“It must be Black!” Percy immediately thought of the fugitive Black and shouted loudly.
More and more people guessed it was him, and they angrily condemned Black, thinking he was a despicable traitor.
“Yes, many people used to think so, including myself!” Dumbledore paused here, his tone becoming more passionate as he continued.
“However, after my investigation, I found that the traitor was someone else. The Ministry of Magic made a grave mistake by imprisoning Black in Azkaban without a trial!”
“On this point, I must apologize to Mr. Black, as I also share some of the blame!” Dumbledore concluded.
After Dumbledore's words, the hall fell into a deathly silence. All the Young Wizards were so shocked they couldn't speak, even doubting whether they had heard correctly.
The fugitive Sirius Black was actually innocent?
How could that be?
Just a few days ago, Black had infiltrated the Castle, intending to kill Harry.
Numerous questions clouded their minds, and the students were buzzing with discussion. Even though the words came from Dumbledore, many still had their doubts.
After all, the Ministry's announcements had brainwashed them for months, and such ingrained beliefs were not easily shaken.
“Silence!”
Seeing the scene becoming increasingly chaotic, Dumbledore cleared his throat, drawing everyone's attention back to him.
“I know this news is shocking, and you may have many questions. However, it would not be proper for me to explain everything. I believe it would be better for the person involved to speak for himself!”
With that, Dumbledore clapped his hands, and the doors of the Great Hall suddenly swung open!
Sirius Black, dressed in a Black robe, walked in calmly, making his way down the aisle in front of the four House tables, tightly gripping a wildly struggling Rat in his right hand.
Harry followed him, somewhat nervously.
Although Sirius now looked different from the wretched figure in the wanted posters, many clever Young Wizards immediately recognized him, especially in light of Dumbledore's previous words.
“He's the fugitive Black!” Seamus, sitting in the front row, couldn't help but scream in shock.
Sirius turned his head to look at him, and Seamus shivered. But Seamus soon realized that Sirius merely gave him a gentle smile and said nothing.
Seamus felt a bit more at ease.
The other students were equally terrified by Sirius's sudden appearance.
Fortunately, many observant students also noticed Harry's presence, and a series of voices quickly rose from the crowd.
“That Black is actually with Harry. It seems Professor Dumbledore's words must be true.”
“Did the Ministry really get it wrong? They imprisoned an innocent man in Azkaban for over a decade and are still hunting him?”
Amid the discussions, Sirius and Harry had already ascended to the platform. Dumbledore moved to the side, making room for them at the center.
Harry took a few nervous steps forward and, mustering his courage, addressed everyone.
"Everything Professor Dumbledore said is true! I used to think like you, that Black was an unrepentant murderer who betrayed my parents to Voldemort."
As Harry continued, his genuine emotions made his words highly convincing, and many people began to agree with him.
"So Sirius Black is not only not a murderer but also a hero who once fought against Voldemort and the Death Eaters! The real traitor is Peter Pettigrew, another friend of my father."
Sirius Black, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke up. He looked at the young Hufflepuff wizard and thought that he might be the child of an old friend, which explained his knowledge of the past.
"But Peter Pettigrew is dead!" a young Hufflepuff wizard suddenly stood up, contradicting Harry, and continued, "My mother once told me that he was incompetent but very brave in critical moments. After the incident, he went alone to pursue Black and was killed by him!"
"No, that's not true, child!"
Sirius Black threw the Rat in his hand into the air and waved his Wand, casting a blinding light on Scabbers.
The Rat screamed wildly and quickly transformed into a short, fat, bald middle-aged wizard in front of everyone.
The young wizards sitting nearby were frightened and moved backward.
Dumbledore waved his Wand and bound Peter, pointing at him and saying, "As you can see, Peter Pettigrew is an unregistered Animagus. He has been deceiving the Ministry of Magic and all of us by transforming into a Rat! He has been hiding in a wizarding family for over a decade, eventually becoming Mr. Weasley's pet."
Some of the young wizards who were aware of the situation turned to look at Ron. Many Gryffindor young wizards had seen Ron playing with his big Rat in various settings, even taking it into the bath.
Ron stood up with a pale face, nodded, and confirmed this.
Percy Weasley, standing nearby, immediately changed his expression. Scabbers had also been his pet for some time, but fortunately, he had given the annoying Rat to Ron a few years ago.
"Merlin, that's disgusting!" George looked at the dirty, short, fat Peter, feeling a shiver of disgust at the thought that Peter had been in their home for so long without being discovered.
"Yeah! Mum would be terrified if she knew about this!"
Fred was even more frightened, remembering that they had once teased Peter and used him for various experiments. He was grateful to be alive.
