Chapter 432: Astrological Incompatibility
Chapter 432: Astrological Incompatibility
When Lu Jiaxin left, Su Heming escorted her to the hospital entrance.
As they reached the car, Lu Jiaxin suddenly asked him, "Why did your brother break up with Miss Bai? Do you know the reason?"
Su Heming immediately replied, "I don't know."
His quick response raised suspicions, and Lu Jiaxin furrowed her brows as she continued, "Does it have something to do with me?"
Su Heming was taken aback but quickly denied it. "No, how could it have anything to do with you?"
Guwenfeng was equally confused. He had spent a lot of time with Lu Jiaxin and was certain that she did not have romantic feelings for her boss.
Lu Jiaxin wanted to get to the bottom of this. She pointed to a tea restaurant not far away and said, "Let's go over there and talk."
There was a female nurse tending to Su Qingwen in the ward, and since his injury was on his arm, it would be fine for Su Heming to step out for a while.
Seeing her stern expression, Su Heming had no choice but to follow her.
Once they were seated in the tea restaurant, Lu Jiaxin chose the most secluded spot, while Guwenfeng and Miaona sat at the neighboring table, both eager to listen in on the gossip.
Everyone loved a good gossip.
"Tell me, what happened?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
She had suggested consulting a master to check if their eight characters were incompatible, knowing that Su Qingwen had already done so for the couple. That was why she had made that joke earlier. However, Su Qingwen's expression and actions today clearly indicated that she was somehow involved in this matter.
Su Heming replied glumly, "My dad told him that my brother had gone crazy, but he still insisted on saying all sorts of things."
"Explain it clearly."
Knowing that he couldn't escape the interrogation, Su Heming decided to come clean. "I don't know what got into my older brother, but he suddenly wanted to consult a master to check his and Miss Bai's compatibility. They had their eight characters matched before, and it was said to be a perfect match."
"Did the master they consulted later say that they were incompatible?"
"No, the master said that their eight characters were compatible."
Lu Jiaxin was more confused than ever. "If he and Miss Bai are compatible, why did they break up? And how am I involved in all this?"
Su Heming's expression was complicated as he explained, "He took my dad's and your eight characters and matched them with Miss Bai's. It turns out that she is incompatible with both of you, so he broke up with Miss Bai."
Lu Jiaxin was stunned. She had heard of matching the eight characters of unmarried couples, but she had never heard of a bride-to-be's eight characters being matched with her future father-in-law and friend.
Since he had started explaining, Su Heming decided to spill everything. "After my dad found out the reason, he asked my brother to apologize to Miss Bai, but he refused. My dad got so angry that he beat him up, but my brother said that the situation could not be changed."
"My dad didn't know what else to do, so he asked my aunt and me to persuade him. You won't believe what my brother said. He claimed that Miss Bai would bring disharmony to the family if she was incompatible with my dad. And being incompatible with you would affect his financial luck. He'd rather remain single for life than marry Miss Bai."
In Su Hexuan's mind, his family and his career came first. If Miss Bai clashed with his family and his career, he wouldn't agree to the marriage, no matter how much her father could help him.
After a moment of silence, Lu Jiaxin said, "Superstition is not a good thing."
Su Heming sighed in agreement. "I know, but we've tried to convince him, to no avail. He's acting like he's possessed. Even my aunt tried to talk to him, but he wouldn't listen. Later, she told my dad that Miss Bai might not be his true destiny and forcing my brother into the marriage would only bring unhappiness."
His father had given up on Miss Bai, but he still hoped that his older brother would get married soon. After all, he was already in his thirties, and it was time to settle down and start a family.
On the way back, Lu Jiaxin rubbed her temples. She had only made a joke earlier, but Su Hexuan had taken it seriously and even asked her to match her Eight Characters with Miss Bai. She couldn't believe he would actually do something like that.
When she returned home, the butler informed her that Hong Gu had called and left a message for her to call back.
Lu Jiaxin immediately dialed Hong Gu's number, and it was indeed her aunt on the other line. She learned that Auntie wanted Gu Haifan to return to Hong Kong to visit her.
Given Gu Xiuxiu's frail health, it wasn't advisable for her to travel frequently. Lu Jiaxin suggested, "There's only one more week until the final exams. Let Haifan stay until after the exams, and then he can go to Si Jiucheng to keep your aunt company."
Hong Gu had conveyed the same message to Gu Xiuxiu, but the latter was adamant about returning to Hong Kong City immediately. As Lu Jiaxin couldn't persuade her otherwise, she sought help from Lu Jiaxin: "Cousin, please talk to Grandma about this!"
Once Gu Xiuxiu got hold of the phone, she insisted on returning to Si Jiucheng, and no one could stop her.
This time, Lu Jiaxin didn't bluntly forbid her from coming back. Instead, she said, "Auntie, your health can't handle the travel. If you really want to go to Hong Kong City, Haifan needs tutoring anyway. Why don't you stay there and keep him company for the summer vacation?"
Gu Xiuxiu hesitated. After spending a year in Si Jiucheng, she was reluctant to stay in Hong Kong City for that long. There were many people to keep her company in Si Jiucheng, and they were all willing to indulge her. Moreover, she could often go out for walks, which was not possible in Hong Kong City, where she would be cooped up at home all day.
After considering for a moment, Gu Xiuxiu reluctantly said, "Then let's wait until Haifan finishes his exams."
After saying this, she handed the phone back to Hong Gu in a huff.
Lu Jiaxin also inquired about Gu Xiuxiu's health, which still fluctuated between good and bad days. Just as she was about to hang up, Hong Gu brought up another matter—Lu Yun was seeking a divorce.
"Why is Lu Yun getting a divorce?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
Hong Gu explained, "I don't know the specifics, but that's what I heard. His wife doesn't want to divorce, and now they're arguing nonstop."
The reason she had heard about this was probably because the dispute had become quite intense. If they had quietly divorced without a fuss, the news might not have reached her so quickly.
Lu Jiaxin thanked Hong Gu and ended the call.
Checking the time, Lu Jiaxin saw that it wasn't a busy time for the noodle shop, so she decided to call Shanzi. There was a small shop not far from the noodle shop, and it was convenient to contact him there. She chose to call Shanzi instead of Lu Er's wife, feeling that asking about this matter would only add to the latter's troubles.
Lu Shan was surprised to receive a call from Lu Jiaxin. "Cousin, why are you calling me?"
Knowing his straightforward nature, Lu Jiaxin got straight to the point. "I heard that Lu Yun is having a fierce argument with his wife and wants a divorce. What's going on?"
Lu Shan blurted out, "Cousin, how did you find out about this?"
"Never mind how I know," Lu Jiaxin said. "Why would they want to divorce when things seem to be going well?"
Lu Shan sighed. "Cousin, Lu Yun and his wife have been married for over five years, but they still don't have any children. They've seen both traditional Chinese and Western doctors in their hometown and Si Jiucheng, and all the doctors said there's nothing wrong with their bodies, but they still can't conceive. A while ago, Lu Yun heard someone say that a couple's offspring luck can clash, and even if both of them are healthy, they still might not be able to have children. After hearing this rumor, he went to see a fortune teller behind everyone's back and came back insisting on a divorce."
Lu Jiaxin was speechless. What was with everyone and this fixation on compatibility lately?
She asked, "What do your parents think about this?"
Lu Shan replied, "My father doesn't agree with the divorce. He says it's better to stick with the original spouse and adopt if they can't have their own children. But Lu Yun disagrees. He says that if he's capable of having children, why would he want to adopt? And he believes that adopted children will never feel as close as their own."
