Chapter 430: Rumors Abound About Lanchi and Thalia
Chapter 430: Rumors Abound About Lanchi and Thalia
Antanas approached the figure of Sinora, seated deep within the cell, always keeping the Great Lover Poet behind her and surrounded by multiple protective barriers, ready even for a surprise attack from Sinora.
Sinora and the ancient chair she sat upon seemed to be the very center of this enclosed world—a prison cell. The most striking feature, however, were her eyes, closed though they were, for they exuded a soul-piercing power.
"Sinora," Antanas's voice echoed in the dim space, calm yet tinged with caution.
[Polymorph: Human] had a 24-hour cooldown, and if she wanted to leave this prison as quickly as possible, she couldn't remove it lightly, or she'd have to wait until tomorrow.
However.
Sinora of the Breaking Spell moved with startling speed and ferocity.
As soon as her name left Antanas's lips, Sinora's figure blurred, and she appeared before the two trainee jailers.
In her hand appeared a strangely shaped staff, its handle long and blade-like, part-halberd, part-battle-axe.
With fluid, practiced motions, Sinora swung the halberd horizontally, aiming to cleave Antanas and the Great Lover Poet in two.
The blade sliced through the air, emitting a sharp tearing sound.
Deep gouges appeared on the metal walls of the prison, dozens of meters away from the clash.
Sinora's attack showed no mercy; clearly, she intended to bisect her targets with this strike.
But Antanas was equally prepared, her body flashing with multiple protective barriers. These shields ignited just before Sinora's lethal blow could make contact, emitting a dazzling radiance.
Sinora's sharp blade met Antanas's magical shield, and a deafening blast rang out! Light and energy erupted within the cell, casting intersecting shadows.
Antanas channeled more magic into her shields, allowing only the outermost layers to shatter under Sinora's assault, successfully guarding against the attack and ensuring the Great Lover Poet behind her remained unharmed.
"Sinora, wait!" Antanas began, but Sinora cut her off, raising her staff once more to deliver a series of close-range slashes, each more powerful than the last.
Sinora's weapon of choice was a staff that doubled as a close-quarters weapon. For an anti-mage like her, sometimes the most effective strategy against another mage was to exploit their vulnerabilities in melee range—a quick, brutal strike to end the fight. And her signature offensive spell was also a slicing attack.
Enhancing her close-quarters combat abilities was her way of compensating for her shortcomings against physically-oriented fighters.
"You're strong," Sinora remarked, finally opening her deep red eyes. In that moment, Antanas felt a killing intent that pierced her soul, an aura of terror emanating from Sinora. The very air around her seemed to tremble in her presence.
To Sinora, killing was as mundane as eating or drinking—a daily occurrence devoid of unnecessary emotion.
The fact that her opponents were Protoss from the Empire was reason enough for her to strike.
Sinora paid no heed to Antanas's words, her halberd-staff blurring as it traced dozens of afterimages, unleashing a whirlwind of slashes upon her foe.
Though Sinora's assault was fierce, Antanas's defenses held firm.
For a moment, the prison cell became a battleground of eighth-tier spells, as Sinora's attacks clashed with Antanas', the light of their magic reverberating within the enclosed, dim world and stirring up violent gusts of wind.
"I am Antanas!" Antanas shouted at Sinora, her anger flaring at Sinora's sudden attack. If not for the need to protect the princess, she would have been tempted to engage Sinora in a full-blown battle.
Even if she couldn't win in a direct confrontation, she could lure Sinora out of the cell and then block the entrance with all her might, forcing Sinora's illusions to turn on her!
Sinora wasn't sure if Antanas was trying to deceive her, as her opponent was incredibly strong, stronger than any trainee jailer she had ever encountered. The slightest relaxation in her offense could put her at a disadvantage.
Just as Sinora was about to land another blow, Antanas conjured a barrier that froze her in place. A coffin-like hexagram of faint blue light encased Sinora, and as she subconsciously tried to reverse the spell, the light shattered like glass.
"..."
Sinora paused, a puzzled expression on her face as she held her halberd-staff mid-swing, staring at the two figures before her.
Although she felt certain they were human, the barrier magic Antanas had just used was one that Sinora knew belonged to her.
Ordinary jailers shouldn't possess such powerful seventh or eighth-tier spells that could withstand her direct assault. Only that annoying Warden Merissa had been a tricky opponent, impossible to kill no matter what she tried.
Sinora couldn't fathom how Antanas had disguised herself so perfectly, not only hiding her true form from Sinora's senses but also from the Protoss Empire and the Helrom Prison itself, allowing her to infiltrate the prison as a jailer and confront Sinora in her cell.
And the black-haired, green-eyed woman standing behind Antanas remained unmoved by the violent clash of their battle, her calmness bordering on indifference.
Based on her magical aura, she seemed to be a zero-tier or first-tier prison clerk, yet her composure was unsettling.
"Antanas? Have you defected?" Sinora furrowed her brows, pondering the situation for a moment before arriving at what seemed to be the most plausible explanation.
"I haven't betrayed the Demon Tribe," Antanas quickly denied. "We're here to rescue you. Look, it's her." She gestured to the Great Lover Poet standing behind her, hoping to avoid another fight with Sinora. The urge to kill was rising within her, and she feared that she might take the opportunity to end Sinora's life.
The Great Lover Poet, having removed her mask, stepped forward, her black hair and green eyes now visible in the dim prison cell.
As the shadows played upon her face, only her emerald eyes shone clearly. It was only when she stepped into the pillar of light that illuminated the cell that Sinora could make out her features.
"..." Sinora's eyes widened in surprise as she gripped her halberd-staff tighter.
"Thalia...?" she whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.
But then she shook her head, certain that this woman wasn't Thalia. Their auras were too different, and it could only be a resemblance in appearance.
Thalia would never look at her with such familiarity and gentleness.
If Thalia could be this gentle, she probably would have been married by now.
But that raised another question. If the black-haired, green-eyed woman before her was a descendant of Thalia's, then Thalia must have successfully married...
Just the thought of Thalia marrying a handsome man made Sinora want to grind her teeth in frustration!
