Chapter 43: The True Harvest
Chapter 43: The True Harvest
"If it erupts right after the end of the casting, that would be fun. What if the enemy still has the strength to fight back? It's like putting yourself in a 'weakness phase' during combat. This Iron Smith's Strength skill has to be used with extreme caution!"
Rayn clenched his teeth, enduring the soreness in his muscles and tendons, and struggled to get up.
"But, will my enhanced physique reduce this 'aftereffect' or even eliminate it completely?"
A sudden thought popped into Rayn's mind.
He really wanted to test it out!
"But I only have 1 attribute point left. I have to save it. Otherwise, I could immediately validate my guess and also get rid of this muscle soreness."
Rayn had always treated that single remaining attribute point as his trump card.
Unless he gained new attribute points, he wouldn't consider using it.
After all, adding attribute points had the special effect of restoring one's physical condition, which was akin to a godly skill in battle!
After waking up, Rayn unintentionally noticed that his reflection in the bedroom's copper mirror, had a much more robust physique.
He hadn't paid much attention before, but upon closer inspection, he had indeed become much more muscular.
Rayn bent down and touched his linen tunic, realizing that the once loose-fitting garment now felt slightly tight, subtly outlining his upper body muscles.
He focused his gaze on his arms, noticing that the biceps and triceps, among other large muscle groups, were now noticeably more defined, no longer resembling the scrawny bean sprout he once was.
After some thought, Rayn took off his slightly tight linen tunic and retrieved a larger-sized linen tunic from the wardrobe.
It was one that his father, Old Rayn, had handed down to him.
After changing, Rayn's physique was less noticeable, and his muscle definition was less apparent.
Looking at himself in the copper mirror, Rayn nodded in satisfaction.
As he reached the door frame, he gestured at his height, realizing that although his growth wasn't obvious, he had actually gained almost half a finger's length in height.
However, Rayn's lateral development was faster, making it seem like he hadn't grown at all.
When Rayn reached the first floor, he looked out the window and saw Anna and little Mint in their small courtyard, planting winter rapeseed in a small patch of land.
Mint wore a layered linen tunic, with a light blue apron-like dress over it.
This was a tube-shaped, unbelted dress that hung from her shoulders, resembling an apron when viewed from the front. It looked adorable on Mint, in Rayn's eyes.
Mint asked, "Anna, when can we harvest the winter rapeseed we planted?"
Anna smiled at Mint, her eyes filled with affection. "During the Blooming Moon, I think."
"The Blooming Moon? That's still three, four, five months away. Almost five months," Mint counted on her fingers, slightly disappointed.
But soon, Mint pointed to the chives planted nearby and asked, "Anna, what about the chives we planted earlier? When can we harvest those?"
"Those can be harvested sooner. Probably during the Grass Moon, they should be ready!" Anna wiped some dirt from Mint's face.
"That's great! We can harvest them right after winter!" Mint smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons.
(End of Chapter)As Leon gazed out the window, a veil seemed to lift from his mind.
He recalled the previous day's encounter with a rampaging werewolf, far superior in strength, whose ferocious visage, towering stature, and bloodthirsty aura had left him feeling utterly oppressed.
If he hadn't held onto his convictions, his will might not have been so steadfast.
Perhaps, in that moment, he would have backed away, hiding to the side, lacking even the courage to draw his sword against the werewolf!
In that scenario, even with the ability to grow stronger through continuous attribute point allocation, he would merely possess a robust exterior, and when faced with genuine crises, dilemmas, and formidable foes, he might not be able to unleash his full combat prowess.
Suddenly, as Leon snapped back to the present, a system prompt appeared:
【Congratulations! You've experienced an enlightenment, and your Spirit attribute has received a slight boost!】
Leon was taken aback and immediately checked his attribute panel.
As expected, his Spirit attribute had increased from 9 to 11, a full 2 points higher, surpassing Strength once again to become his highest attribute.
As Leon lifted his head, he realized his perception of the surrounding objects had changed.
He vaguely sensed that there were three birds chirping outside the window, and a mouse cautiously poking its head out from a kitchen corner.
This wasn't an improvement in eyesight but rather a shift in perception, as if his senses had become sharper!
Leon was momentarily stunned, never expecting that his insights and reflections on combat and life would bring him such a pleasant surprise.
Perhaps this was the true reward hidden within the depths of battle!
As Leon basked in his joy, his stomach suddenly rumbled loudly.
At that moment, he snapped out of his reverie, remembering that he had come downstairs to eat something.
A large one-pound loaf of white bread, a slice of cured meat, and an egg—this was the breakfast his mother had prepared for him.
Clearly, this was an extravagant breakfast.
In this world, breakfast wasn't considered a main meal; only those engaged in strenuous physical labor would typically enjoy a hearty breakfast.
The improvement in their meals at home began when Leon gave his mother two gold coins, knowing that he was about to join the Night Watch. From then on, the meals she prepared for the family became significantly better.
Leon finished his food in a few bites, patted his still-empty stomach, and sighed a sigh.
"My appetite is getting bigger and bigger!"
To be honest, Leon was only about three-fifths full. One reason was the recent rapid surge in his physical fitness, which had been improving at an astonishing rate. Another reason was that he was in a growth phase, and his body desperately needed nutrition.
"Looks like I'll have to go to the pie shop later to buy some meat pies to fill my stomach."
At that moment, he seemed to hear a noise from the kitchen, and Mint rushed in, excitedly saying, "Brother, you're finally awake! Come and help us plant winter rapeseed!"
Seeing Mint's smiling face, Leon couldn't help but step forward, pat her head, and say, "Mint, you and Anna keep planting. Brother has something to take care of outside."
"Okay~ But come back soon, Brother!" Mint said, then skipped off to continue planting.
Anna, standing by the doorframe, shyly glanced at Leon and nodded, saying, "Then I'll go with Mint."
