Chapter 43: Spending Like Water
Chapter 43: Spending Like Water
Song Chi examined his fully reinforced Psionic Engine, noting that the Psionic Pool had barely reached 9,000 points. He made a mental note to quickly acquire a high-quality engine component.
Back when he first obtained the "Atomic Fusion Nuclear Engine" component, it came with a Psionic Pool of 5,000 points even at Level 0. If he could reinforce it to Level 19, the Psionic Pool would likely exceed 30,000 points. This would be far more efficient than the current setup, where the energy supply is low and the Psionic Pool is insufficient.
With the current 9,000-point Psionic Pool, Song Chi estimated that the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator would need another few reinforcements before it would be inadequate again.
However, there was no immediate solution. Yesterday, he checked the White Tower Local Network, but the marketplace did not have any blue-quality or higher engine components. There were a few white-quality components, but their attributes were mediocre and the prices were high, making them unappealing. He had no choice but to make do with what he had.
After reinforcing the Psionic Engine, he turned his attention to the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator. He had plenty of First Tier Floating Land Essence and Mercury Crystals, and he was not hesitant to use them. The orange-quality components would last him a long time, and the initial investment in resources for reinforcement was highly cost-effective.
Within a few dozen seconds, he reinforced the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator component to Level 15, spending 200 strands of First Tier Floating Land Essence and 150 tons of Mercury Crystals.
The attributes had indeed improved significantly:
Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator Level 15
- Quality: Orange
- Special Trait: Shield Value increased by 85%
- Special Trait 2: Shield Protection Value doubled
- Consumption: 60/s (Psionic Points)
- Protection: 880
- Shield Value: 16,280/16,280
- Recharge Time: 20s; Overload Buffer: 35 minutes
- Upgrade Requirements: 70 strands of First Tier Floating Land Essence, 10,000 Psionic Points, 45 tons of Mercury Crystals
The reinforcement to Level 15 had significantly boosted the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator's attributes. The Protection Value increased from 380 to 880, and the Shield Value from 6,080 to 16,280. These improvements were substantial.
The significant enhancement was due to the high quality of the component. High-quality spacecraft components come with unique traits, and the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator's two percentage-based traits ensured that the higher the reinforcement level, the more terrifying the boost.
Song Chi had initially wanted to continue reinforcing the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator. He still had 102 strands of First Tier Floating Land Essence and 50 tons of Mercury Crystals, which would have been enough for another reinforcement.
Unfortunately, he lacked the Psionic Points. Reinforcing the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator from Level 15 to Level 16 required 10,000 Psionic Points, but his Psionic Pool currently held only 9,000 points.
Reluctantly, Song Chi shifted his focus to the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Puppet Tree component.
This was the only component on the Sky Dome currently capable of using First Tier Floating Land Essence, aside from the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator and the Golden Rock Ship Armor. Since he was not planning to reinforce the Golden Rock Ship Armor yet, the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Puppet Tree became his next target.
In the end, he spent 90 strands of First Tier Floating Land Essence to reinforce the Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Puppet Tree component to Level 15.
Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Puppet Tree Level 15
- Quality: White
- Consumption: 200 Psionic Points per puppet
- Effect: Summon ten Level 15 Fire Chrysanthemum Soldier Puppets. The puppets will remain active as long as they do not die. If a puppet is destroyed, it can be re-summoned after 24 hours.
Upgrade Requirements: 30 Strands of First-Tier Floating Land Essence, 4000 Astral Energy Points
With the upgrade, Song Chi was left with only 12 strands of First-Tier Floating Land Essence. This meant he couldn't reinforce any other First-Tier components for the time being.
After enhancing the two highest-quality components on the Azure Sky, Song Chi turned his attention to the "White Ember Ship Hull." While this component didn't directly boost the shuttle's attack or defense, it determined the number of "special component slots" on an Ember Ship and the maximum level of the Astral Energy Training Platform.
The Astral Energy Training Platform was of little importance to Song Chi, but the special component slots were always useful. Even though the Azure Sky currently had only one special component, the "Fire Holly Warrior Tree," it was always good to have extra slots for future use. Preparing in advance by adding a few more special component slots was a wise move.
The White Ember Ship Hull, like the colorless version, required a fixed amount of resources for enhancement, regardless of the quality of the Ember Seed.
- From Level 0 to Level 1: 5 strands of Zero-Tier Floating Land Essence + 200 Astral Energy Points
- From Level 1 to Level 2: 10 strands of Zero-Tier Floating Land Essence + 400 Astral Energy Points
- From Level 2 to Level 3: 15 strands of Zero-Tier Floating Land Essence + 600 Astral Energy Points
And so on.
In the end, Song Chi spent 225 strands of Zero-Tier Floating Land Essence to upgrade the White Ember Ship Hull from Level 0 to Level 9. He could have pushed it to Level 10 or higher, but after some consideration, he decided against it.
Once the Ember Ship Hull reached Level 10, the Azure Sky would begin to evolve from an Astral Energy Shuttle to an Astral Energy Airship. This evolution wasn't a problem, given the Azure Sky's foundation, and the chances of failure were minimal. However, the key issue was that once the Azure Sky evolved, the risks associated with deploying it in different star domains would increase. For Song Chi, who simply wanted to gather common resources without unnecessary danger, this was not an ideal scenario.
Thus, he stopped the enhancement at Level 9.
Even without evolving into an Astral Energy Airship, the Azure Sky now had 6 special component slots, up from the initial 2.
In the Ember Human Civilization, the number of special component slots on an Ember Ship increased based on the quality of its Ember Seed. For every 5 levels the "Ember Ship Hull" was upgraded, the number of special component slots increased as follows:
- Colorless Ember Ship Hull: 2 slots per 5 levels
- White Ember Ship Hull: 4 slots per 5 levels
- Blue Ember Ship Hull: 6 slots per 5 levels
- Purple Ember Ship Hull: 8 slots per 5 levels
The Azure Sky, being a White Ember Seed-bound ship, gained 4 additional special component slots for every 5 levels the Ember Ship Hull was upgraded.
Of course, this wasn't a fixed rule. If Song Chi managed to improve the quality of his Ember Seed in the future, the ship would automatically gain more special component slots based on the level of the Ember Ship Hull.
After completing the enhancement of the White Ember Ship Hull and noticing he still had a good amount of Zero-Tier Floating Land Essence left, Song Chi turned his attention to the "Golden Rock Ship Hull Armor." As a White-quality "Hull Armor" component, its enhancement value was quite high. However, it had been overlooked because its function overlapped with the Dark Matter Energy Shield Generator.
