Chapter 43: Leaving the Village
Chapter 43: Leaving the Village
At the Mission Distribution Center, Tobiram Senju, who had received Feng Ye's request, waited until evening. He didn't hear back from the Land of Grass caravan asking for a replacement, nor did Feng Ye and Might Guy return to choose another mission.
After waiting for so long without any news, could it mean that the Land of Grass caravan had approved Feng Ye and Might Guy as their escorts?!
"The Land of Grass caravan didn't request a change of personnel?"
As time passed, Tobiram Senju grew increasingly perplexed.
He began to hesitate.
While Feng Ye was a genius Chunin, he had never undertaken a mission before, and the same went for Might Guy. Sending these two on an escort mission felt somewhat unsettling.
If this sort of escort mission failed, it would undoubtedly affect Konoha's reputation.
"Never mind."
After hesitating for a moment, he decided it would be better to report the matter to a higher authority.
Typically, there was no need to report a C-rank mission to Hiruzen Sarutobi, but given the current situation, it seemed prudent to do so.
Soon enough.
Hiruzen Sarutobi, who was reviewing documents in the Hokage's office, received the report.
"A C-rank escort mission..."
Hiruzen was slightly surprised and couldn't quite understand why Feng Ye would team up with Might Guy.
With Feng Ye's temperament and strength, completing a C-rank mission shouldn't be a problem. However, if unexpected circumstances arose, the outcome could be different, especially with Might Guy on the team.
But after some thought, Hiruzen decided against interfering.
After all, there was no such thing as a mission that was absolutely free of unforeseen events. Moreover, with the growing tension in the ninja world, this non-combat mission was already relatively suitable for Feng Ye to hone his skills.
If they truly failed due to some unforeseen circumstance, it would serve as a lesson for Feng Ye—not to become overly confident in his strength and choose team members carelessly.
...
After parting ways with Might Guy, Feng Ye returned home and began packing his belongings.
He made sure to bring along the standard ninja equipment like explosive tags, kunai, and shuriken. Most importantly, he also packed his ninjato, the White Fang.
Kakashi Hatake appeared at the doorway at some point, leaning against the doorframe with his arms folded in front of him. "...So, you really plan to team up with Guy-sensei?"
"Mhm," Feng Ye replied calmly. "I learned a jutsu from him before, and I owe him a debt of gratitude. At a time like this, I should help him out. And you, too, have benefited from it, as I taught you the Eight Inner Gates technique that I learned from him."
After learning the Eight Inner Gates from Might Guy, Feng Ye had mastered the first two gates and then passed on the technique to Kakashi.
While the latter gates of the Eight Inner Gates may not be suitable for Kakashi, the first two gates could be quite useful for him. Even in the original story, Kakashi had learned to open the first gate.
"And that taijutsu...you learned it from him as well?" Kakashi asked, his expression conveying his disbelief. He had always thought that Feng Ye had developed that technique himself; it seemed improbable that he would learn such an advanced taijutsu from a lifelong genin.
Noting Kakashi's reaction, Feng Ye smiled faintly and said, "There's no reason to deceive you about this. Moreover, Might Guy's strength far surpasses your imagination. Now that you've learned the technique, you should be able to gauge the potential of someone who has perfected it. Let me tell you this—Guy-sensei is capable of opening the final gate, the Gate of Death."
"!"
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Kakashi's pupils contracted involuntarily.
If he hadn't known about the Eight Inner Gates, he might have brushed it off. But now, having managed to open the first gate himself, Kakashi had some understanding of the technique. If someone could open the eighth gate, the power they unleashed would likely surpass that of a jonin.
"Don't underestimate Konoha's genin," Feng Ye replied, his eyes deep and mysterious as he glanced at Kakashi.
After a brief pause, Feng Ye finished packing the things he needed onto the table and stood up to face Kakashi. "Speaking of which, how's your jutsu training coming along lately?"
"I've just started practicing Cell Activation, and I've already mastered Lightning Blade. As for the Eight Inner Gates, I can open the first gate," Kakashi replied to his brother.
"Not bad," Feng Ye said, a hint of approval in his tone.
Kakashi's talent in ninjutsu was undeniable. He had easily mastered the Lightning Blade technique that Feng Ye had created, and Cell Activation didn't seem to pose much of a challenge for him either.
With Cell Activation in his arsenal, Kakashi wouldn't have to worry about his chakra capacity in the future. Even without the Sharingan or access to the power of the Sage of Six Paths, Kakashi would likely reach the level of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, by the time he reached his peak.
At the very least, he would surpass Mokume Kakashi!
"Since that person has such strength, then there's nothing to worry about. Also, in a few days, Sensei Minato will be taking us out on a mission," Kakashi informed his brother.
Kakashi furrowed his brows as if he had just remembered something. "Oh, right. It seems like Shisui Uchiha from our team likes Rin."
Feng Ye smiled and said, "It's normal for Rin's likable personality to attract people. Are you asking if you should interfere? It's up to you to decide what to do about it."
"What do you mean, 'it's up to me'?!" Kakashi exclaimed, rolling his eyes.
If the person before him weren't his brother, Kakashi would have dismissed such behavior immediately. Lately, more than just Rin and Kurenai had been visiting their home.
But then again, it didn't seem to have much to do with Feng Ye, as he hadn't done anything to encourage them. Most of the time, he was passively approached by these girls. Nonetheless, Kakashi felt that his brother was a little too popular with the ladies, which could be troublesome. Yet, Feng Ye always managed to handle these situations harmoniously.
"By the way," Feng Ye said, turning to Kakashi, "if we get the chance while we're out on a mission with Jonin Minato, you can ask him about the Flying Thunder God Technique."
Kakashi looked at Feng Ye, puzzled. "The Flying Thunder God Technique? How do you know Jonin Minato knows that technique?"
"Well, I got that information from some intelligence reports," Feng Ye explained briefly, not wanting to go into detail.
As a time-traveler, it would be embarrassing not to know about the legendary technique that had shaken the ninja world, performed by the yellow flash himself.
Given Minato's personality, if Kakashi asked about the Flying Thunder God Technique, he would probably be taught how to train in it. However, whether or not Kakashi could successfully master it was another matter entirely. The difficulty of training in such a space-time ninjutsu far surpassed that of the Eight Inner Gates, which was a gradual process.
Nevertheless, it was worth trying if Kakashi could get the chance to learn it.
...
The next day, Feng Ye arrived early at the village gate.
After waiting for a while, Tobiram Senju and the others arrived one after another, carrying only light bundles. About a quarter of an hour later, Might Dai finally showed up.
"Sorry, sorry, I think I'm late," Might Dai apologized.
"You're not late; we're just early. Now that you're here, we can set off," Feng Ye said with a cheerful smile, glancing at the defensive Jonin guarding the gate.
The Jonin nodded and, after recording Might Dai's name, signaled to Feng Ye and the others that they were cleared to leave the village.
