Chapter 43: Jungle Slaughter (2)
Chapter 43: Jungle Slaughter (2)
September 25th, 2017
The bandit chief crouched in the nearby bushes, anxiously awaiting Lu Hai Kong's response. He was well aware that he would only have one chance to strike at Lu Hai Kong, and if he could seize this opportunity and eliminate him, they would be safe. Otherwise, he had no confidence in his group's chances of surviving this small grove.
He was gambling, betting on whether Lu Hai Kong would be tempted by the 50 gold coins. In truth, the bandit chief himself wasn't confident in his plan, as Lu Hai Kong had previously displayed an overly cunning nature.
He was certain that the guy had been eyeing him from the start but remained calm and feigned weakness to lower his guard. Then, using the valuables on his person, he lured the bandits into this grove. Along the way, he kept swinging his blade at the grass and trees, fearing that his group might lose their way, gradually leading them into the forest, and finally taking advantage of his long-range prowess.
To come up with such a devious plan in such a short time, the bandit chief had little confidence that Lu Hai Kong would fall for it.
"50 gold coins? That's a bit too little, isn't it? It should be at least 100 gold coins!" Lu Hai Kong's voice echoed from deep within the grove.
He responded!
The bandit chief's eyes lit up with intense surprise. After carefully identifying Lu Hai Kong's location by cupping his ears, the bandit chief's face broke into a sinister smile. He cautiously crept towards Lu Hai Kong's position.
On the other side, the bandit tasked with luring Lu Hai Kong into conversation was equally surprised, a cold smile on his face. 'Forget about 100 gold coins, even if it's 1,000 gold coins, I dare to promise it to you, but can you take it, kid?'
Although he was feeling smug, he didn't stop talking, continuing to lure Lu Hai Kong into conversation. "100 gold coins is too much. We don't have that much money. At most, we can offer 50 gold coins plus a horse. How does that sound?"
Lu Hai Kong seemed completely unaware that he had fallen into their trap. Not only did he continue to respond, but he also seriously engaged in a discussion with the bandits, arguing and negotiating about how much money to give, and other such matters.
As his voice kept transmitting, the bandit chief kept confirming Lu Hai Kong's location. Soon, the bandit chief had approached Lu Hai Kong's position. Just as he was about to slay this cunning enemy, the bandit chief became exceptionally excited, despite feeling a bit dizzy for some reason. Ignoring this, driven by his intense desire to kill Lu Hai Kong, he directly ignored his condition.
"Here, this is the place!"
The bandit chief's eyes gleamed, and he forcefully pushed aside the bushes in front of him. Indeed, he saw Lu Hai Kong's face filled with 'panic.' The bandit chief, with a sinister smile, pounced forward: "Finally caught you, kid. Die!"
The bandit chief leaped forward, his blade slicing down fiercely towards Lu Hai Kong. Victory was within reach, and the bandit's smile remained on his lips. But on Lu Hai Kong's face, which had previously shown 'panic,' a proud smile appeared. In his hand, at some point, he held a giant axe, and with a swing of his arm, he delivered a powerful 'Forceful Strike.'
"Ding!"
The giant axe struck the bandit chief's blade, and the fully charged Lu Hai Kong's axe dominated the exchange. The bandit chief was sent flying, crashing into a big tree, and a mouthful of blood sprayed out.
The bandit chief struggled to get up from the ground, his face showing a sudden realization. "You knew I was coming?"
"No, it was you who lured me here!"
"Oh, so you're not as clever as you thought!" Lu Hai Kong chuckled, revealing his pearly white teeth.
"Damn it, I should have known, I should have known better! With your cunning, there's no way you could have fallen for such a simple trap," the bandit chief shouted, his voice tinged with madness.
"No worries, it's not too late to realize now. Rest assured, my axe skills are pretty good. Four or five strikes should be enough to finish you off," Lu Hai Kong said with a mischievous smile, the cold light in his eyes resembling a living demon to the bandit chief.
"No, you can't kill me!"
"Nonsense! Why can't I kill you if you can kill me?" Lu Hai Kong retorted with a cold laugh.
"I'm the third-in-command of Dark Wind Fort. If you kill me, they won't let you off. Quick, spread the word! Go, go and take the news back to the fort!" The bandit chief screamed frantically, as this was his only chance at survival.
"Enough, stop shouting. Not just you, but all twelve of you won't be getting away today. Who would know it was me who killed them all?"
"Kill them all? You must be joking. How could you possibly..." The bandit chief trailed off as a sudden wave of drowsiness hit him. If it weren't for the intense pain from the axe wound inflicted by Lu Hai Kong, he would have passed out instantly. The bandit chief realized, "You despicable coward, you drugged the food!"
"Hmph, you really think my cooking is that delicious? But this 'Basic Sleeping Powder' is not that effective. It took an hour or two to take effect. I'll have to give Wang LaoTou a bad review when I get back. Alright, I won't waste any more words with you. I've got a few more to deal with."
Without further ado, Lu Hai Kong swung his axe, silencing the struggling bandit chief who was pleading for mercy.
