Chapter 429: Sowing
Chapter 429: Sowing
In a distant sea, the Red-Haired Pirates sailed across the waves, having ventured into the New World and made their mark. The bounty on Red-Haired Shanks' head had skyrocketed to an astonishing 1.179 billion berries!
"He... killed Kaido?"
On the deck, Shanks stood holding a newspaper, a faraway look in his eyes as he absorbed its contents. As an apprentice of the Roger Pirates, he had faced off against the Beast Pirates on numerous occasions.
While the Beast Pirates were weaker than the Whitebeard Pirates, and their clashes typically ended in their defeat and retreat, there was no denying the strength of their captain, Kaido. He was a formidable monster, difficult to kill.
Especially after Roger's death, Kaido had continued to grow stronger, likely reaching a level not far behind Whitebeard himself. Yet, this formidable Kaido had still fallen to Feng Ye.
Feng Ye's strength far exceeded Shanks' initial expectations. "No wonder the World Government has turned a blind eye to his actions and even shown signs of retreat and compromise."
Beckman took a deep drag on his cigarette, gazing up at the sky with a profound look in his eyes. Ever since Feng Ye destroyed the Holy Land of Mariejois, the World Government's attitude towards him had become peculiar.
Initially, Beckman suspected that Feng Ye had struck some sort of deal with the World Government, but now it seemed more likely that it was out of pure fear of Feng Ye's overwhelming power. To put it another way,
> The World Government had backed down in the face of Feng Ye alone!
This was almost unimaginable, as even the Pirate King Roger had been unable to achieve such a feat. Yet, Feng Ye's remarkable accomplishments and the World Government's reactions suggested that this might very well be the truth. The World Government...
> ...was afraid of Feng Ye's power!
"We've only just entered the New World, and he's already on his way to conquering these seas," Shanks remarked, setting down the newspaper and letting out a sigh. "We should step up our efforts as well."
...
With Kaido's death, the New World plunged into even greater chaos.
Among the warring factions, Whitebeard controlled the largest territory. Anyone who dared to challenge his dominion was swiftly dealt with, and gradually, no one dared to provoke the Whitebeard Pirates.
Next was the Big Mom Pirates, who ruled over Totto Land and continued to expand their influence, crushing many pirate crews in their path. With the absorption of the remnants of the Beast Pirates, their strength had grown exponentially!
The addition of Queen and Jin to their ranks caused the Big Mom Pirates' power to surge, even rivaling that of the Whitebeard Pirates! The prevailing belief among the forces in the New World was that only four powers would ultimately dominate this new territory.
Three of these spots were all but guaranteed, and no one dared to easily provoke these formidable entities.
Big Mom Charlotte Linlin!
Whitebeard Edward Newgate!
And...
The Traveler, Feng Ye!
Despite having no crew to speak of, compared to the vast forces of the Whitebeard and Big Mom Pirates, almost everyone agreed on one thing:
> Even with just Feng Ye alone, the Traveler was a more formidable force than the Big Mom Pirates!
For most, the idea of challenging the Whitebeard or Big Mom Pirates was more appealing than facing Feng Ye. Up until now, Feng Ye had displayed a level of personal prowess that could only be described as...
> Incomprehensible!
No one knew the limits of his strength or the true extent of his power. Although Feng Ye's rise to prominence on the high seas had been relatively recent, every action he took struck fear into the hearts of those who heard of it. The final spot among the four powers remained uncertain.
Some believed it would go to pirates from the same era as Whitebeard, while others favored the rapidly rising newcomer, the Red-Haired Pirates.
...
In the Land of Wano, as conflicts between the various forces intensified on the outside seas, the country itself gradually settled into a peaceful calm.
Additionally, with Momonosuke's disappearance, there was no certainty that he would return after a decade or more. Thus, Kozuki Hiyori, the only daughter of Kozuki Oden, was installed as the daimyo by her loyal samurai.
The Daimyo of Wano Country,
Kozuki Hiyori.
The position of shogun would remain vacant for the time being. Should Momonosuke reappear in the future, he would inherit the position. Otherwise, the shogunate would be abolished, leaving only the daimyo system in place, with Hiyori as the sole ruler of Wano Country, passing on the title to her descendants.
As for Feng Ye, who had killed Kaido and stood behind Hiyori, supporting her overthrow of Orochi, he was revered as the "Enlightened King"!
This title originally belonged to Kaido in Wano Country.
It represented a revered position that transcended the country's system, akin to a guardian deity, and now it belonged to Feng Ye.
...
In the center of the Flower Capital stood the shogun's mansion, which had once belonged to Orochi but was now transformed into the daimyo's mansion.
Inside the newly constructed mansion, in a spacious hall, Feng Ye sat at the back of a table placed in the center.
To his left was Nico Robin, lounging in her seat, while to his right was Kozuki Hiyori, dressed in the formal attire of a daimyo.
Below them in the hall, Ashura Doji, Kawamatsu, and the other Kozuki retainers knelt on the ground.
"If you wish to open the country's borders, then do so."
Feng Ye picked up the wine cup on the table, took a sip, and addressed the kneeling Ashura Doji and the others.
Opening Wano Country to the outside world had been Kozuki Oden's dying wish.
Now that they had regained control of their nation and installed Hiyori as the daimyo, Ashura Doji and the others had begun discussing the matter of opening the country. However, such a significant decision required Feng Ye's approval first and foremost.
"After opening the country, you can use my flag when sailing on the high seas," Feng Ye said calmly.
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Ashura Doji and the others raised their heads, their faces filled with gratitude. "Thank you, my lord!"
Although they didn't know much about the world beyond Wano, they were aware of the dangers that lurked on the open seas.
Opening Wano Country's borders meant facing those dangers, but with Feng Ye's consent and permission to use the Traveler's mark, Wano Country would be under his protection! They might not know the full extent of Feng Ye's reputation on the high seas, but his effortless defeat of the Hundred Beast Kaido surely placed him among the apex powers.
With Feng Ye's protection,
no one would dare invade Wano Country lightly!
"You may leave now."
Feng Ye set down his wine cup and addressed Ashura Doji and the others.
They bowed once more to Feng Ye before rising to their feet and taking their leave, one after the other, until the hall was empty except for Feng Ye, Robin, and Hiyori.
"Mr. Feng Ye..."
Hiyori turned to face Feng Ye, kneeling and bowing her head low to the floor. "Thank you for your kindness."
Even at the young age of eight, she understood the magnitude of Feng Ye's actions—killing Kaido, supporting her claim to the daimyo position, permitting Wano Country to open its borders, and allowing them to use his flag. This was a debt she might never be able to repay.
"Stand, please."
Feng Ye smiled gently and rose to his feet. "Alright, we've dealt with most of the political matters. I won't be involved in the details from now on; your retainers should be capable of handling them."
Hiyori lifted her head, a hint of surprise in her eyes as she looked at Feng Ye. "Mr. Feng Ye... Are you leaving?"
"No."
Feng Ye shook his head with a smile. "I won't be leaving just yet. I'm just going to sow some seeds. Would you like to come along and watch?"
"Sowing seeds?"
Hiyori furrowed her brow, a puzzled expression on her face.
