Chapter 428: That Man Must Never Be Provoked
Chapter 428: That Man Must Never Be Provoked
As the samurai of the Land of Light assembled and marched towards the Flower Capital under Hinata's command, news of the events in the Land of Warriors began to spread beyond its isolated shores. After all, Kaido was one of the most fearsome pirates on these seas, and his demise could not be kept hidden.
In the New World, within the lands of the Four Emperors, Big Mom, alongside her family, had already claimed this territory as her own and was now expanding her influence. The central island of this territory had been transformed into a veritable Cake Island.
On Cake Island, within the Cake Castle...
Big Mom sat on the spacious open-air balcony, popping cakes into her mouth one after another. "The Firetank Pirates rejected our demands, Linlin," she said, addressing herself in the third person, a peculiar quirk of hers.
Beside her sat the only person besides her own children who dared call her by her name—Streusen, the head chef of the Big Mom Pirates. He held a newspaper in his hands as he addressed her.
"If they won't play ball, then let's just get rid of them," Big Mom said, pausing momentarily before setting down her cake and letting out a chilling laugh.
Streusen put down the newspaper. "Then it's decided. They probably think that without their patron, Captain Joker, they can still survive in the New World."
With just a few words, the fates of a New World underground gang were sealed. "Whitebeard hasn't been expanding his territory much lately," Streusen continued, "but Kaido is still vying with us for control of the Kingdom of Poside. Conflict with them would hinder our growth."
"Kaido... hmm... We can let him have the Kingdom of Poside, but those other two places must be mine. They are home to many races I wish to collect!" Big Mom asserted, taking a sip of tea.
The Kingdom of Poside was one of the wealthiest unconquered nations, but wealth was not her primary concern. Big Mom lusted after the diverse creatures and races that inhabited those lands.
Indeed, now was not the time for conflict with Kaido. Though she feared no one, the New World was vast, with plenty of unclaimed territory. There was no need for unnecessary clashes.
"Then let's contact Kaido," Streusen suggested.
"If we cede Poside, Kaido shouldn't make a move on the other two places," he added, popping a piece of beef into his mouth. A former member of the Rocks Pirates, he was an old acquaintance of Kaido.
"Perospero," he called out to a young man behind him. "Bring the Den Den Mushi for contacting the Beast Pirates!"
"Yes, sir," Perospero replied promptly, soon returning with the special snail used for long-distance communication and placing it on the table.
Streusen picked up the Den Den Mushi and directly dialed the Beast Pirates' number.
Brrrrrr! Brrrrrr! Brrrrrr!
Brrrrrr! Brrrrrr! Brrrrrr!
Click!
The call was answered promptly.
"Hello? This is Streusen. Put Kaido on the line," he said, glancing at Big Mom beside him.
The line fell silent for a moment before the call was abruptly cut off.
This unexpected turn of events left both Streusen and Big Mom momentarily stunned.
Although they had been separated from the Rocks Pirates for a long time, Kaido should not have been so brazen as to hang up on them without so much as a word. They were not afraid of him!
"That Kaido has gotten bold, hanging up on me like that..." Big Mom's expression gradually turned icy as she stared at the Den Den Mushi in her hand.
"Mom! Mom! Something big has happened!!"
Breathless, Big Mom's third son, Daifuku, came rushing over. Between gasps, his eyes widened in disbelief as he exclaimed, "Kaido has been taken down!"
The head chef, Streusen, who was sitting at the table, paused for a moment before standing up abruptly. "Kaido has been taken down? Where did you get this information?!"
Big Mom also froze, her expression reflecting a hint of disbelief. While she did not fear Kaido, she was well aware of his capabilities and strategies. Back in the Rocks Pirates, Whitebeard and Red-Haired Shanks had been the left and right arms, the first mates. She and Kaido had come right after them.
Captain John's crew ranked below them.
When news of Captain John's demise had reached her, she had been surprised but not shocked. However, the idea of Kaido being taken down was an entirely different matter!
"This is from the Land of Wano. It happened many days ago, and it was the work of the Traveler..." Daifuku's voice quivered as he spoke, his eyes reflecting fear and disbelief. "It's said that the man killed the Hundred Beast Kaido with just one strike!"
"One strike?"
Both Streusen and Big Mom wore looks of astonishment. They exchanged a glance, each seeing the shock reflected in the other's eyes.
While there were indeed people stronger than Kaido in this world, defeating him was already incredibly difficult, let alone killing him. As for doing so with a single strike—that was sheer fantasy!
Impossible!!
Streusen immediately questioned the veracity of the intelligence. "Impossible! Even that man couldn't kill the Hundred Beast Kaido with a single strike!"
What did it mean to kill Kaido with one strike?
It implied that regardless of Big Mom's strength, or that of Whitebeard or Garp, they would stand no chance against Feng Ye. Moreover, the gap between Feng Ye and them would not be slight but enormous!
No matter how powerful that man was, it was inconceivable for him to attain such a level, as it defied all logic!
"I can hardly believe it myself, but that's the intelligence we received..." Daifuku's voice trembled.
Streusen took a breath.
He turned to look at Big Mom and saw the grave expression on her face.
Both of them understood one thing: regardless of whether this intelligence was true or not, Kaido's death at Feng Ye's hands was likely a fact.
Even if it wasn't as outrageous as killing Kaido with a single strike, the fact that Feng Ye could take down Kaido still spoke of an incredibly terrifying level of strength.
Killing Captain John,
Destroying Marine Headquarters,
Slaying the Hundred Beast Kaido...
In Streusen and Big Mom's eyes, the fact that this man had accomplished so many terrifying feats without recruiting any crew members and traveling the seas with only a maid by his side implied one thing.
Feng Ye's existence
was more fearsome than the Whitebeard Pirates!
If the news of him slaying Kaido was true, then this fact was undoubtedly real!
"We must never provoke that man!"
