Chapter 427: Making a Fortune
Chapter 427: Making a Fortune
Upon hearing Albert's words, Fred and George felt a surge of excitement, but the thought of their five Galleons going down the drain quickly dampened their spirits. The Swelling Solution they had produced was not just mediocre, it was downright garbage.
"It's too difficult. The formula for the Swelling Solution is even harder to master than we anticipated, no wonder you decided to openly share the recipe," Fred grumbled as he sat next to Albert, frustrated with himself.
After their attempt at brewing the potion, both twins realized that most students wouldn't be able to brew the Swelling Solution successfully. Even if they did, the cost of the ingredients far outweighed the value of the final product, and it would be cheaper to just buy a bottle.
To make matters worse, the Swelling Solution didn't have a long shelf life, and it was inconvenient for storage and usage in its current liquid form.
This was the reason Albert had decided to sell the Swelling Solution in small bottles.
Listening to Albert's story, Lee Jordan couldn't help but burst into laughter. He felt that Kenneth Towle was in for some bad luck, while the Weasley twins looked even more glum.
Seeing their dejected expressions, Albert offered some comfort: "Don't worry, you just need to look at the bigger picture."
"I think our vision is pretty long-term already?"
Whenever Albert talked about making money, he always advised them to think long-term and not get fixated on immediate gains.
"By the way, you can leave that bottle of pus from Bubotuber pus with me for now. I'll work on improving the Swelling Solution when I have some free time."
Albert unapologetically took the ingredients the twins had purchased from Mundungus Fletcher, intending to use the panel's help to enhance the Swelling Solution in his spare time.
With the panel's assistance, improving the Swelling Solution wouldn't be difficult at all.
Albert planned to wait for Kenneth Towle to expand his market reach before releasing the improved Swelling Solution 2.0.
And this time, he would collaborate with Isabelle again, as girls were always enthusiastic about finding ways to enhance their beauty.
...
"If you can get Primpernelle Apothecary to work with you, you'll definitely make a killing." Isabelle couldn't help but marvel as she looked at the bottle of Swelling Solution 2.0 in Albert's hand.
It had taken Albert very little time to improve the Swelling Solution. They had replaced a few ingredients in the original formula, adding ginger and peppermint for a cooling sensation when applied, and the final product now resembled an ointment more closely.
Isabelle had taken most of the Swelling Solution 2.0 with her, sharing it with her sister, Katrina, and her friends. In doing so, she was helping Albert promote the improved version.
Soon, word spread among the girls at school about the better Swelling Solution, and they started approaching the Weasley twins to place their orders.
Before long, the twins had a long pre-order list, and most of the girls were generous enough to pay three Sickles upfront.
The sight of the three of them counting Sickles in the Gryffindor common room made Ron, who was doing his homework nearby, incredibly envious.
"Where did you get all those Sickles from?" Ron finally asked, unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
"This money belongs to Albert," Fred explained. "We're just helping him sell some stuff."
They didn't mention that this was Albert's way of preparing funds for his future shop.
"What are you selling?" Hermione asked curiously, realizing that Albert had a real talent for making money.
"The Swelling Solution 2.0 will help you tackle those troublesome pimples," George replied, clearing his throat as he recited the sales pitch they had prepared earlier.
"How much?" Hermione inquired.
"Three Sickles a bottle, and it's pre-order only," Fred appraised Hermione before adding, "You don't need it yet, so don't take up someone else's share."
...
"You want to buy the formula for the Swelling Solution 2.0?" Albert asked, looking at Kenneth Towle to confirm his intentions. Ever since Kenneth had produced that batch of high-quality Swelling Solution, Albert had been plotting his next move.
"Yes." Kenneth Towle nodded earnestly.
"What do you plan to do with it?" Albert pretended he didn't know what Kenneth was up to. "I dare say if you start selling Swelling Solution 2.0, you'll lose your pants."
"Are you selling it?"
"Yes, why not? Maybe after some time, I'll be able to improve it further and release Swelling Solution 3.0." Albert replied jokingly.
Kenneth Towle opened his mouth, suddenly feeling less inclined to converse with the person before him.
Was improving a potion really that easy?
Kenneth didn't think so, but the fact that it was Albert made him reconsider the matter.
"If you lowball me, I won't sell." Albert warned, "After all, if I sell you the formula, I won't be able to profit from it anymore unless I really do research and create a Swelling Solution 3.0. But improving a potion is not as easy as you imagine."
"One hundred galleons." Kenneth Towle gritted his teeth and named a price.
"I want this price." Albert narrowed his eyes and waved his hand.
"You're robbing me blind." Kenneth stared at the five raised fingers, stunned. His face turned crimson, and he said through clenched teeth, "Can't you lower the price a bit?"
"If it were anyone else, I would have asked for a thousand galleons." Albert assumed a look of sincerity and reminded him, "Swelling Solution 2.0 is already a mature product."
What Albert said was not entirely false. Even some male students were using Swelling Solution 2.0 to get rid of acne on their faces because, after all, everyone wanted to look their best.
It was worth the price.
Kenneth Towle opened his mouth but ultimately didn't agree immediately.
"Actually, I don't recommend buying the potion formula. It's more sensible to spend time improving the Swelling Solution yourself." Albert patted Kenneth Towle's shoulder and suggested.
"If it were that easy, why would I come to you to buy the formula?" Kenneth Towle rolled his eyes at Albert and turned to leave.
"Are you really going to sell the formula?"
The trio was surprised that Albert intended to sell the formula for the Swelling Solution, and on top of that, he had set the price at five hundred galleons.
"Why not? We can't mass-produce it anyway, so we might as well sell it and make some galleons." Albert explained to the three of them.
"What then?" George frowned and asked, "Is there something better?"
"There will definitely be something better in the future. I believe that before graduation, I can improve it to create Swelling Solution 3.0. In the meantime, the guy who buys the formula should be able to recoup his costs and make a profit. Everyone benefits; there's nothing wrong with that."
"Wait, do you mean Kenneth Towle buying the formula is not..."
"Use your brain; of course, it's not him. Unless Kenneth's brain has been squeezed by a door, why would he buy the formula himself? Besides, he doesn't have the money. It's most likely a beauty potion shop... hmm, like Primpernelle Apothecary on Diagon Alley."
"Primpernelle Apothecary? Is there such a shop on Diagon Alley?" Lee Jordan asked in confusion.
"It's at Diagon Alley, number 275." Fred reminded him.
"But... isn't five hundred galleons too expensive?" George thought that one hundred galleons was already a high price.
"Expensive? Not at all. She'll be willing to pay. I dare say she won't balk at the price. It's easy to earn galleons from women, especially when it comes to their beauty. That Primpernelle lady probably heard about this from her customers, and she wants to monopolize the industry, so she's prepared to buy the formula." Albert explained to the three of them.
The three exchanged glances, shocked by Albert's insight. So this guy had intended to make a fortune by selling the Swelling Solution formula from the start?
