Chapter 427: End-of-Term Exams
Chapter 427: End-of-Term Exams
As Kyle left the classroom, he felt a sense of relief. He had expected the assessment for the Most Promising Newcomer Award to be troublesome, but it turned out to be surprisingly simple, just as Professor McGonagall had mentioned earlier.
When Kyle arrived at the upstairs classroom, the exam had already begun. Professor Flitwick seemed startled to see him.
"Merlin's beard, what are you doing here? Didn't Professor McGonagall find you?" He hurried over to Kyle's side and pointed towards the second floor, saying, "Quickly, go to the room next to the library. Someone is waiting for you there..."
"I just came from there, Professor Flitwick," Kyle said.
"What?" Professor Flitwick paused, "Have you already met with Professor Marchbanks?"
"Yes," Kyle replied, "And I passed the assessment. She told me to come and take the exam, saying that I should be able to make it in time."
"Indeed, you're just in time. In fact, the exam hasn't started yet," Professor Flitwick said with a smile, having received his answer. "But actually, you don't have to come either..."
Kyle remained silent.
Although Professor McGonagall had also said this, everyone was taking the exams, and there wasn't a single person in the castle. Going back would only be boring.
The two of them entered the classroom.
The exam for Charms class was the Long-Leg Spell, which Kyle naturally completed with ease.
After dinner, the students hurried back to their common rooms to start reviewing for the upcoming exams.
The morning after the Potions exam, the entire castle's atmosphere suddenly dropped to a terrifying level. Even during lunch, everyone was unusually quiet, as if Dementors were about to attack the school the next day.
"It's too difficult."
Michael finally couldn't hold it in and sighed, "With Snape standing behind, I couldn't think at all. I got so many steps wrong, and the potion's color was off too."
Moreover, when he left, he wrote something in his notebook. I bet he's going to give a zero."
His words resonated with those around him.
It seemed like everyone had experienced being watched by Snape from behind, feeling as if he wanted everyone to fail.
However, the afternoon exam hosted by Hagrid for Care of Magical Creatures was much more interesting.
Hagrid somehow managed to get a large bucket of Fire Crabs, saying that to pass the exam, one must find the Fire Crab's favorite food.
There were three types of food on the field, all of which were on the Fire Crab's menu. Even with their eyes closed, they could pass by randomly picking one. It could be said that this was the easiest exam they had ever taken.
Kyle also had many opportunities to talk with Hagrid.
"Thank you for the restorative potion, Kyle."
Hagrid whispered, "There are some spiders in the Forbidden Forest that have been lacking in energy lately. They need some restorative potions."
"How are they doing now?" Kyle asked.
"Much better," Hagrid said happily, "They look exactly the same as before, very healthy."
"That's good," Kyle was also pleased.
Then, without even glancing at the Fire Crab in Kyle's hand, Hagrid gave him full marks.
In the middle of the night, they took the Astronomy exam, and everyone fought off their sleepiness and stumbled to the top of the tallest tower. Along the way, they complained that this class should have been scheduled last.
That way, they wouldn't have to worry about the next day's exam and could get a good night's sleep.
The History of Magic exam was on Wednesday afternoon, and it was the most grueling one. The classroom was stuffy and hot, with all the doors and windows shut tight, not a breeze in sight.
The end of this ordeal was in sight, with only one more day to go before they would be greeted by a full two months of vacation.
The second-to-last exam was Divination.
Early in the morning, Kyle went to the Divination classroom and placed a brand-new crystal ball in the corner, directly facing Professor Trelawney.
The exam took a long time, with each student requiring around ten minutes on average to complete it. This made Divination the longest exam, lasting from morning until noon.
When Professor Trelawney finally emerged, Kyle, who had been waiting for a long time, hurried back into the classroom.
Unfortunately, Professor Trelawney did not make a single genuine prophecy throughout the entire exam.
The crystal ball remained pristine, with nothing recorded inside.
Kyle picked it up with some regret and put it back in his pocket.
This thing wasn't cheap, ten Galleons each, but he wondered if he could return it...
When Kyle arrived at the Great Hall, it was already filled with people.
Everyone was excited, chatting animatedly and eagerly anticipating the end of the afternoon exam.
Kyle sat down between Conna and Cedric, just in time to hear them discussing the O.W.Ls.

"How do you feel?" Conna asked. "Were the questions difficult?"
"A bit harder than usual," Cedric replied. "But it's manageable. It's all material we've learned before, so don't worry. You'll definitely pass next year."
In fact, the real challenge is the N.E.W.T. in seventh grade. Many seventh-year students haven't slept at all these days, constantly reviewing their studies."
"Then how do they manage during the day exams?" Michael, sitting next to them, leaned over. "If you don't sleep for a few days, do you still have energy?"
The Astronomy exam only required a few hours less sleep, but today he felt incredibly sleepy. If he went without sleep for two or three days straight, he wasn't sure he could even get up.
"Just grit your teeth and bear it," Cedric said. "Or drink a stimulant potion the night before. Although many potions are prohibited during the Ultimate Wizarding Exam, the stimulant potion isn't one of them. As long as you drink it early enough, there won't be any issues."
The final exam was Defense Against the Dark Arts. Professor Lupin set up the most unusual exam they had encountered so far, an outdoor obstacle course-like exam.
The area he had set up next to the Forbidden Forest came in handy.
They had to pass through a forest inhabited by Erumpents, cross a swamp teeming with Imps, find their way through a thicket, and locate three Tree Guardians hidden in advance. If they didn't find them all within the allotted time or injured them, they would lose points.
"Well done, Kyle," Professor Lupin said with a smile as Kyle emerged from the passage. "Full marks!"
Kyle was the first to achieve full marks.
Michael, who had entered the area with him, was still stuck at the first obstacle. He was affected by the Erumpents, spinning in place and occasionally jumping as if something was blocking his path.
It wasn't until a few minutes later that he crashed into a tree and snapped out of it.
From a distance, Kyle could see his flushed face.
Conna also passed the exam, just like Kyle, with full marks.
